Abstract

Description
技术领域
本发明涉及一种NA值小于0.34的光纤(optical fibre),其由纤芯和保护包覆层组成。
背景技术
已知美国专利US 5,381,504公开了这种光纤,其具有的NA值的范围为0.08至0.34,并且保护层固定到支撑硬度值D为65或更大的光纤外表面上。其中公开的光纤元件具体由光纤、环绕所述光纤的保护层和围绕保护层、从而形成元件外层的缓冲器组成。光纤实际上包括纤芯和包层。保护层进一步由弹性内层和刚性外层组成,弹性内层保护光纤元件不受到微弯曲损耗,而刚性外层保护底层不受磨损和机械损伤。当这种光学元件连接到连接器时,必须将缓冲层从光纤元件的一端剥离一定长度从而使光纤正确地插入连接器并粘附到其中成为可能。然而,在连接期间,保护层保持在光纤的外表面上。采用这种方法时,保护层防止光纤受到用于去除缓冲层的工具的损伤。此外,保护层防止光纤接触水蒸气或灰尘,这种环境对光纤的耐久性和光学性能有不利的影响。
由于目前玻璃纤维通信系统中比特速度的增加,因此装置中多种连接器的比特速度也增加。此外,关于装置不同部分的体积和能量消耗的要求变得日益严格。尽管多种(次)元件的急剧小型化,但形成目前电信系统核心的系统支架的总体积仍继续增加。由于位速度增加,以及结合这种扩大的系统机柜中不同部分之间跨接的距离增加,因此目前特别注意在系统机柜的插入模块和底板中所谓的印刷电路板中光学技术的使用,已经使用至今的铜线技术将完全消失。
已知发送器和接收器之间的距离增加时,所谓的聚合物波导中的绝对衰减将是一个限制因素。如果使用所谓的“阶跃折射率”型光纤,当使用的距离较大时,频带宽度将成为限制性因素。此外,已知使用具有低抗断强度的小直径聚合物光纤在配线的自动化处理时将产生问题。另一方面,当使用具有相当高抗断强度的标准石英光纤时,上述问题将不会发生,但是安装费用将不合需要地增加,这是因为将使用的连接器必须先剥离这种光纤的保护层。保护层的去除导致随后断裂的风险增加。
发明内容
本发明的一个方面是提供一种光纤,当这种光纤用于连接器时,其保护层不用剥离。
本发明的另一个方面是提供一种光纤,其配置为当这种光纤放置在连接器中时,使光纤松动或移动的风险最小化。
本发明的另一个方面是提供一种光纤,其具有这样一种纤芯直径以便当光纤耦合到一起时,不会产生可能导致光信号过度衰减的不可接受的耦合损耗。
引言中涉及的发明提供了一种NA值小于0.34的光纤,由纤芯,包层和保护包覆层组成,特征在于,所述保护包覆层形成光纤的外层,且其总外径相当于该光纤端部插入的元件的内径,其中,所述光纤的总外径在120-130μm的范围内;所述保护包覆层由多个子层组成,所述多个子层具有互不相同的E模量值;所述光纤还包括一个直接接触所述包层的内子层和一个外子层,所述内子层的E模量值在0.5-7Mpa的范围内,所述外子层的E模量值在25-1500MPa的范围内。
当使用上述光纤时,本发明的一个或多个方面得到满足。特别地,本发明使用石英玻璃光纤,其中保护层的外径相当于用于玻璃直径125μm的标准玻璃纤维的连接器的内径。
对于透镜或光纤,NA(数值孔径)过去定义为接受角最大值一半的正弦值。
对于多模光纤(multimode fiber),仅仅考虑导致导波纤芯模式的子午光线。在渐变折射率光纤的情况下,纤芯折射率取决于纤芯剖面;最大的接受角在纤芯中心处测量。因此,纤芯中心的折射率必须用于计算NA(数值孔径)。
因为光线的方向可逆,因此NA(数值孔径)通常由光纤输出的最大远场角决定。功率密度(辐照度)不在平面上而是在球面上测量。
因为这些测量显示不出清楚的截止角(cut-off angle),因此一个提出的用于测量渐变折射率光纤NA(数值孔径)的标准建议对一段2m长光纤的远场进行评价。已经发现相当于-13dBopt的5%光强度角的正弦值与NA(数值孔径)最好的相符合。在输入端,光纤必须过量填注一大尺寸斑点,并且模消除器必须用于去除包层模。这也引起受激的不交轴光线,但是渐变折射率光纤显示小于不交轴光线的最大接受角。因此,不交轴光线不影响渐变折射率光纤的NA测量。
阶跃折射率光纤对不交轴光线比对子午光线具有更大的接收。为了仅发射子午光线,已经提出在光纤中心处的小斑点激发。
通过纤芯和包层的折射率定义NA(数值孔径)也能应用到单模光纤。与上述相比,NA(数值孔径)不描述光纤的远场,因为光线模式不能应用于单模光纤。一个准确但昂贵的方法是折射率剖面的测量。然而,NA(数值孔径)和5%远场角正弦值之间的差别通常小。
特别地,根据本发明的光纤具有125-130μm范围内的总外径。当使用这种直径值时,本光纤将轻松地被夹到连接器的125μm箍或槽中。当使用小于125μm的外径时,光学玻璃纤维将在连接器内变得松动或移动,而当使用大于130μm的外径时,箍或槽施加在光学玻璃纤维上的压力将变得如此的大以致外保护层将变形并可能从玻璃纤维中分离,结果光学玻璃纤维的局部将得不到充分地保护。在一个具体实施例中,总外径可以是120-125μm,并且通常必须使用粘合剂以确保在连接器的箍中正确的固定。
本发明中使用的保护层可以由一个或多个子层组成;在使用单层保护层的实施例中,其厚度必须为至少10μm。
此外,其中传送光信号的光学玻璃纤维的纤芯直径优选大于或等于上述光纤物体的光纤的纤芯直径或供给激光发射器的光纤的纤芯直径。如果纤芯直径小于上述光纤的纤芯直径,将产生不可接受的耦合损耗,导致信号过度衰减。因此,对于多模光纤的纤芯,理想的是其直径为大约50μm或62.5μm,该值与目前大规模使用的多模光纤的纤芯直径一致。这种多模光纤也可以用普通单模光纤提供或照射,而没有不可接受的耦合损耗发生。
本说明书是基于在玻璃纤维光学配线系统中所谓的标准连接器的使用,例如已经研制并生产用于电信系统中标准玻璃纤维的连接器。根据现有技术,在剥离一层或更多保护层后,当使用单个连接器时,将已知的石英光纤插入精密的箍中,或者当使用“阵列”连接器时,将已知的石英光纤插入到槽的刻蚀行中。光纤通过粘合剂固定在其中,并且通过抛光给光纤提供所需的表面质量以实现低连接衰减。如前所述,围绕已知玻璃光学纤维的保护层的外径为250μm。
另一方面,当使用根据本发明的方法时,光学玻璃纤维的外径适合的范围为光学玻璃纤维的总外径与阵列连接器中箍或槽的内径相同。根据本发明,将光学玻璃纤维装配到箍或阵列槽中不再需要像过去那样从光学玻璃纤维中去除保护层。当使用配线的自动化处理时,这不仅在成本而且在光纤寿命上都提供显著的优点。毕竟,在现有技术中,去除一小段长度的保护层通常由机械设备操作实现,这增加了在连接器工作期间光纤在相同点断裂的风险。在本光学玻璃纤维装配到连接器中后,抛光端面。利用这种方式装配的光纤,从而获得的配线能够用于连接PCB或BP。如果使用120-125μm范围内的总外径,优选在箍中包含粘合剂或者简单地在所需位置固定光纤,以便光纤受到夹紧作用,结果光纤不能松动或移动。
具体实施方式
本发明将通过若干实施例在下面进行详细描述;然而,应当注意本发明不限于这些特定实施例。
实施例1
多模光学玻璃纤维通过加热玻璃预制棒和随后拉伸直径100μm、纤芯直径50μm和NA值0.2的玻璃纤维制成。在光纤的所述拉伸中,由DSM Desotech销售的丙烯酸酯树脂保护层涂覆在光纤上,随后通过UV光照射固化。从而施加的保护层的厚度为约13μm,E模量(E-modulus)的范围为15至1000MPa。光纤总外径为126μm。这样生产的光纤设有对于玻璃直径125μm的玻璃纤维的标准连接器,之后该光纤用于提供不同PCB之间的光学连接。
实施例2
多模光学玻璃纤维通过使用与实施例1中描述的相同操作来制成,然而,除了直径是80μm外。纤芯直径为50μm以及NA值为0.2。在光纤的拉伸期间,两层保护层涂覆在光纤上,内保护层比外保护层稍微软一点。第一保护层的厚度为大约12μm,E-模量的范围为0.5至7MPa,第二保护层的厚度为大约12μm,E模量的范围为25至1500MPa,因此光纤的总外径大约为128μm。这样生产的光纤以与实施例1中描述的相同方式设有标准连接器,之后该光纤用于提供不同PCB之间的光学连接。
实施例3
使用与实施例1和2中描述的相同操作,不同的是使用纤芯直径大约62.5μm、NA值0.27的光纤。涂敷保护层后,光纤设有对于玻璃直径125μm的玻璃纤维的标准连接器,之后光纤用于提供不同PCB之间的光学连接。
Claims (5)
1.一种NA值小于0.34的光纤,由纤芯,包层和保护包覆层组成,特征在于,所述保护包覆层形成该光纤的外层,所述光纤的总外径与光纤端部插入的元件的内径相应,其中,所述光纤的总外径在120-130μm的范围内;
所述保护包覆层由多个子层组成,所述多个子层具有互不相同的E模量值;
所述光纤还包括一个直接接触所述包层的内子层和一个外子层,所述内子层的E模量值在0.5-7Mpa的范围内,所述外子层的E模量值在25-1500MPa的范围内。
2.根据权利要求1的光纤,特征在于粘合剂用于光纤端部插入的元件中以确保光纤在其中的正确的固定。
3.根据权利要求1的光纤,特征在于纤芯的直径为大约50μm或62.5μm。
4.一种利用玻璃纤维提供光学配线的方法,其中使用用于玻璃直径125μm的标准玻璃纤维的一个或多个连接器,特征在于使用如权利要求1-3中任何一个所限定的光纤,其中将光纤夹紧插入连接器的箍或槽中时去除光纤的外保护层不再必要。
5.根据权利要求4的方法,特征在于所述夹紧通过使用粘合剂来实现。
