背景技术
基于互联网的公司很大部分的收入流来自在其网站上的广告。广告在网页上保留的位置中采用标语的形式。无论何时当用户再次请求该网页或刷新该页时网页上的广告可以被更新。利用来自存储在用户的个人计算机上的cookie的信息可以将广告瞄准请求该网页的用户。在某些情况下，广告还可以在实际显示时被修改。实际上，网页上的广告也可以独立于请求它的用户而被更新和刷新。这可能利用众所周知的万维网广播技术或推技术来完成。在推技术中，万维网服务器将信息推向用户而不是等用户专门来请求信息。这种技术需要在用户的浏览器中安装一段软件用于启动新广告。修改一部分网页的另一种方法是在网页的HTML代码中插入特定的指令以便在一段时间流逝时使浏览器自动联系万维网服务器并且刷新该部分。因此，已经存在几种技术允许独立于任何用户请求自动修改部分网页。

图1是本发明的方法的流程图。本发明涉及电子文档对个人的显示。文档可以是，例如，互联网上的网页、类似由有线电视运营商、电视台、电视网等提供商发送的，作为部分个人电视业务接收的一部分电子节目向导(EPG)的一段内容信息。文档还可以是任何其他类型的电子文档，如由报刊亭显示用于在公共场合为个人提供一般信息的列车时刻表、城市导游等。这决不是本发明的限制并且可以考虑任何类型的电子内容。在本发明中，文档包括自动更新的一部分。如这里使用的“自动更新”指示当该部分被显示时在该部分中显示的内容信息被自动修改。内容信息的修改是自动的因为其不由用户控制和请求。内容信息可以在定期的基础上更新或者在文档的提供者操作时修改。该部分可用于显示产品或业务广告。该部分还可用于提供个人感兴趣的主题，如股票报价、天气、新闻、体育等的更新或通知。在互联网环境中该部分允许闪烁制作(FLASH)动画或者允许制作Javascript应用程序。
