Description
Quecksilberdampf-Gleichrichter.
Mercury Vapor Rectifier. In the case of mercury vapor rectifiers, it has hitherto been common practice to carry out the ignition by means of a liquid auxiliary ignition nozzle. For this purpose, the glass vessel was tilted by a suitable device until the mercury level of the cathode touched the auxiliary anode. The mercury levels were then separated again by straightening the glass vessel, creating the ignition spark.
In contrast to this, according to the invention, no liquid auxiliary ignition anodes are used, but solid exciters are arranged in the glass body only a few millimeters away from the mercury level, so that it touches the excitation anodes when the glass vessel is tilted, thereby initiating ignition . When the mercury flows back as the glass body is straightened, the arc starts.
As a result of the small distance between the mercury level and the exciter anode, the watt consumption of the auxiliary excitation is only small.
In the figure, the subject of the invention is illustrated in one embodiment, namely d represents the glass vessel in which the excitation anodes a and b are arranged just above the mercury level c and near the glass wall.
