tif. SI l'on actionne l'ai -bre de com- mande b pour ajuster le roulement a, par exempleà la positionde la fig. 13, on voit que lorsqu'un cylindreC passe de _211l' à NI, il Y .1 refoulement de liquide dans la cou- duite d'aspiration;
Hydraulic rotary machine, able to function as pump on as motor. This invention relates to a rotary hydraulic machine, able to function as a pump or as a motor, this machine being of the type which comprises a rotary drum provided with cylinders arranged radially, in which move pistons bearing on a crank pin mounted eccentrically with respect to said drum.
A characteristic of the rotary machine, object of the invention, resides in that the casing of the machine, in which the drum rotates, has two diametrically opposed partitions which separate the inlet and the outlet of liquid. , while the eccentric crank on which the pistons rest is arranged so as to be able to be displaced angularly so as to to vary the angular position of its radius of eccentricity with respect to the diametral plane passing through said partitions.
An important advantage of this machine is that it is reversible even at the lowest flow rates.

The machine shown in the drawings has a casing formed from two flanges k and 1 bolted together and in which is fixed a cylindrical distribution sleeve . This sleeve has two solid parts or diametrically opposed partitions, indicated at în, and, on each side of these partitions, openings ml crossed by reinforcing ribs ml (fig. 2) and un- blocking externally in two ducts kl of the casing.
These conduits have a progressively increasing section from the ni partitions to the horizontal median plane A (fig. 2) where there are pipes salt, - before to the liquid inlet and outlet, respectively.
A The interior of the distribution jacket can rotate a cylindrical drum c, in which radial cylinders are formed C. The drum o has a central part ci which is supported in the k part of the casing by a ball bearing el. This part is keyed to the main shaft ii which receives the motor force if the machine operates as a pump or transmits this force if the machine operates as a receiver.
On the drum c is fixed a plate d which is supported by means of a ball bearing el on a central boss It of part 1 of the envelope.
In the boss 11, the drive shaft b is journalled, provided with an offset lever b, carrying a roller bearing a. The shaft b can turn 180 11, this movement being limited by a stop screw o.
It can be controlled by a helical wheel p and a worm q driven by the shaft r. According to a variant, it could also be controlled by means of a lever acting on a toothed sector i (fig. 11) while grinding with a pinion s fixed on said shaft b . The construction being in this case such that the maximum amplitude of the lever does not exceed 60 degrees. The rotation movement of control b is only intended to vary the flow or to reverse the direction of flow of the liquid, as 011 the will see later.
In the cylinders C of the drum o slide pistons f which are supported on the eccentric bearing a via " rollers g carried by axles h, themselves mounted in forks fl of the pistons f.
The axes h. pistons protrude laterally from the forks fl and are surrounded by two circular rings il and i 2 which prevent the pistons from moving away from the central bearing under the influence of centrifugal force, in case the resistance opposes (o n ' is not sufficient (suction in the case of a pump) These friendly are retained laterally by heads provided for the axes h. and by nuts h \ carried by these.
The operation of the described machine is as follows (fig. 12 to 16), assuming that it functions as a pump. During the rotation of the drum c, the rollers g are always kept in contact with the eccentric bearing a by means of the rings il, i2 # Assuming that the eccentric bearing has its center Pb (fig. 12) below of center 0 of drum a, in the plane .zl [-Ml of partitions iii and that the drum turns in the direction of the arrow, it can be seen that when the cylinders C make a half turn in the left to part of the plane of the partitions (fig. 12 ),
the pistons f move away from the periphery of the drum; there is therefore y aspiration of liquid through the left pipe. 4. During the next U-turn, to right of the plane the pistons approach the periphery of the drum and there is therefore liquid through the right pipe A '. This operation gives the maximum flow of the pump in the direction of the arrows in the pipes, which can be called direction po ,,
tif. If you activate the control knob  b  to adjust the bearing a, for example  to  the position  of  in fig. .  13,  we see that when a cylinder  C  goes from _211l '  to NI,    there  .1 delivery of liquid in the suction pipe;
from NI to M effective aspiration of liquid occurs, from M to N </ I> there y has suction in the discharge line and from N to 11P, effective liquid delivery. The pump flow therefore remains positive, but decreases.
In the position of la fig. 14, the center R of the bearing a is aligned perpendicular to the M-MI plane of the partitions, there liquid is discharged through the suction pipe MI to </ I> NI, then effective suction of liquid from NI to AI, suction on the discharge pipe from < / B> J-1 to N and effective delivery from N to MI. The pump flow rate is then no one. By turning the shaft b in this way by a quarter of a turn, the pump flow rate has therefore been varied from the maximum to zero.
Ori.cow- will easily be taken by the diagrams of fig. 15 and 16 that by rotating said shaft a further quarter turn, the flow rate will be varied from zero to the maximum in the negative direction, so that the construction described makes it easy to obtain any flow rate between zero and maximum Lin, in one direction or the other, reversibility being ensured for all flow rates. If the machine is used as a hydraulic motor, the speed and direction of rotation of the machine will be varied in the same way. In all cases, the stroke of the pistons is equal to twice the eccentricity of the bearing a with respect to to the axis 0-0 of the shaft b.
The length of the partitions m circumferentially is slightly larger than the diameter of the pistons f. To avoid excessive pressures in each cylinder C, when at reduced flow, the cylinder passes in front of the partition, there there in the periphery of the drum at the end of the cylinders, several notches 4 (fig. . 17 and 18) which allow liquid to escape on both sides of the partition. This precautionary measure is not essential; it can be carried out by any other device meeting the same goal.
Fig. 4 shows a variant in which the de distribution shirt comprises an intermediate crown it) separated by stamped leathers x by two lateral crowns ÎP ', the three parts of the shirt being pressed against each other. by y; bolts this arrangement makes the # machine very waterproof.
Fig. 5 shows a variant of distribution jacket z provided with grooves in which are housed lining segments j which bear on the drum and increase the seal. These segments are subjected to the pressure of the liquid coming from kl directly into the grooves, as shown, but there could be there to this effect another hydraulic device that allows. to adjust the pressure of the liquid acting on the segments, or finally springs could fulfill the same function.
Figs, 6 and 7 represent a constructive variant which concerns the connection between the pistons f and the eccentric bearing a., The roller g (fig. 1) is replaced, in this variant, simply by a shoe u.
An even simpler solution is shown in fig. 8 where it is the piston f itself which makes the contact with the eccentric bearing a_ In all cases; there will be to cover the retaining rings il and j2 for the pistons.
The invention is not limited to the embodiments described and shown. On the other hand, it is possible to combine a machine operating as a pump with a machine operating as a motor to constitute a hydraulic transmission so that the whole forms a single device. The machine also has the property of being able to act as a clutch and brake for the case where it is applied in vehicles.
