Turbine hydraulique.
gage dans. celle boîte' et repose par un ré- bord 20 sur un épaulement 21 de la boîte 17. A son extrémité inférieure, le cylindre 19 est fermé par une paroi de fond conique 22, au bord de, laquelle se -trouve un cous' sinet extérieur circulaire;
Hydraulic turbine. The present invention relates to a hydraulic turbine distinguished by the fact that the flow of water through a rotor of the axial flow type is. regulated by means of a cylindrical valve valve coaxial with the rotor and movable across a set of radial flow passages disposed on one side of the rotor, coaxially. with him.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, two embodiments of the hydraulic turbine according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial section of an embodiment with a vertical axis; Fig. 2 is. a horizontal section along line 2-3 of fig. 1; winnowing being.
removed; Fig. 2a is a section similar to that of FIG. 2, but representing a variant; Fig. 3 is a section more extensive than FIG. 2, taken along the same line 2-3, but on a smaller scale:
Fi.g. 4 is a horizontal section on a reduced scale along line 4 of FIG. 1; @ Fig. 5 is an axial section of an embodiment with a horizontal axis. - As regards the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 3- and 4, the vertical shaft 17. is mounted in the upper bearing 12 and in the lower frame 14.
The bearing 7.2 is carried by a frame -13 extending transversely to the cuvé and the \ cra paudine 14, which is preferably made of ga'iac wood, is arranged at the top of a truncated cone- 15 , which rests on a concrete block 16.
A cyindrical box 17 furnishes the tank. and carries a circular bronze pad 18 at its lower end. A cylinder.- coaxial and <B> of </B> smaller diameter "19, - is-.
pledge in. that box 'and rests by a rim 20 on a shoulder 21 of the box 17. At its lower end, the cylinder 19 is closed by a conical bottom wall 22, at the edge of which is a neck' sinet circular exterior;
. in bronze, -24. Between three bearings 7.8 and 24 is a cy-] Indre mobile 25, forming a plunger, - presenting, at its upper end, -a rim 2 & carrying a bronze pad <B> -27 </B> - in engagement with the internal face of the stuffing box 17. The plunger cylinder 25 is closed by a conical bottom wall 28, in the center of which is formed an opening provided internally with a pad 29.
The wall, de.fond 22 carries a central sleeve 23, with packing, around the shaft 11., And, Ce. sleeve -23, extends a tube 30 leaving all autoiude the shaft 11 a free space 31 .. 1_e bearing 29 is engaged with the outer surface of the tube. 30:. Holes 32, made in the bottom wall 28, ensure an approximate pressure balance on the two sides of this wall 28.
The cylindrical packing-box 17_ is -supporté, at its lower part, by the circumferential row of guide vanes 33 which are located on the crown 35. This crown carries a bronze seat 36, with which p.ëut come in the ring-cushion 34 lining the outer lower edge of the plunger cylinder 25.
From the base 41 of the truncated cone l.5 s7 'rise fixed vanes 110 which carry a crown 39 on which rests the base rim 38 of the crown 35: Ducts-37 and 37', opening into the wall of box i_7; are used to admit, a fluid under -pressure in space:
between the box 17 and the cylinder <B> 19 </B> or to make it escape, this fluid being able to be used -to act - on the annular rim 26, forming the head of an annular piston. in order to --produce the displacement of the pawn cylinder. This - constitutes a cylindrical valve to descend inside the crown of guide vanes 33.
- The water passes to the turbine through pipe 12 and enters the inlet passage in the form of a converging volute 43 (fig. 3), so that it is delivered, with a gyratory movement. and, with increased speed, 'to guide vanes 33.
These blades 33 are. inclined relative to the corresponding radii, as shown in FIGS. 2 and-3 -and, in the arrangement shown, they- are close to perpendicular to these spokes at their lower end than at their upper end and their inclination gradually changes between these two ends (see also fig: 1).
In the variant shown in FIG. 2a, however, vanes 33 have their. parts if killed at different heights inclined to the same degree with respect to the corresponding radii., The internal edges of the vanes 33, are adjacent (the outer surface of the plunger cylinder 'when the latter is lowered to bring the bushing 34 meshed with the seat 36..
The space to which the vanes 33 deliver water is designated by 114 and, below this space, are the mobile vanes 45 forming the driving wheel, carried by the shaft 11, these vanes being free, c 'that is, unboxed @ erritre. rigid crowns.
As the water leaves the moving vanes 45, it enters the surrounding space 46. the apex of the truncated cone -15, and passes between the fixed vanes 40 to the volute discharge chamber 117. The vanes 40 are placed at a suitable inclination, with respect to the corresponding radii, to provide minimum resistance. -to the water flowing through the chamber:
46 with a whirling motion. They are a little twisted, like the inlet guide vanes -33, but come closer to the perpendicular to the corresponding radii at their upper end than at their lower end (see fig. 4 as well as fig. 1.). The volute duct 47 receives. discharge water in the natural swirl direction and conduct it. following paths .de:
increasing section, <B> of </B> so as to reduce its speed and deliver the current of water to the outlet pipe 48.
A pipe 49 leads. water from the pressurized inlet duct 43 in the lower part of the slider 14 to force it to rise through. this crapau dine, thus ensuring a circulation of water through this one to cool it and. at the same time fish for any accumulation of sand in the crapaudine.
The water which passes to the turbine through conduit 42 enters the spiral inlet chamber 43 where it gains speed, its potential energy being converted into vortex live power as it goes. that it is delivered, through the guide vanes 33, to the space 44 located below the bottom wall 28 'key 1a; valve 25. This water animated by a swirling movement acts on the drive vanes 45 so as to impart a torque to the shaft 11 to make it turn.
As the water leaves moving vanes 45 and enters space / Ï6, it may maintain a certain revolving speed. In the volute expansion chamber <B> 117, </B> this speed of.
vortex will be -transformed into pressure by the reduction in speed selected at the increase in cross-section and this will reduce, to the same extent, the back pressure of the chamber 46 and increase the part- the total drop which effectively acts on the paddle wheel 45.
For the water passing through the vanes 33, the flow direction is formed of two components: one, directed radially from the outside in. and. the other, directed in a turn; consequently, according to the expression commonly employed, there is at the location (the guide vanes 33 a radial flow of key water outward cry into it.
At the point where the water comes to act on the paddle wheel 45 'and passes through it, the -components of the steering (the flow are parallel to the axis and to the vortex and, consequently, one says that at this point, the water flow is axial. At the point where the water exits the vanes 40, the steering components are directed radially in and out and in swirling and; then, there will be a radial flow from inside to outside.
The power of the turbine can be regulated by varying the volume of the water stream passing through it. For a normal load, the valve 25 will occupy approximately the position shown in fig. 1. and we will raise it for an overload, or. we will lower it for a partial load. When the valve is lowered, it decreases the annular inlet opening to the space 44 defined by the inner edges of the vanes 33.
As has been said previously, the direction vanes 33 of FIGS. i, Z and .3 are formed such that the passages existing between them have a width which varies from top to bottom. We erase it. seen in the drawing, the inlet vents between consecutive vanes are decreasing in width from top to bottom and the water inlet angle with respect to the corresponding radii keys "increases from top to bottom .
The reason why water is admitted at the top in a direction closer to the radial direction is that this water constitutes the mass which enters the central part of the paddle wheel for operation with valve in normal position (fig. i) ..
At the bottom of vanes 33, water. is admitted in a direction more closely approximating the tangential direction, and it is thus imbued with a greater rounding movement around it. the axis of the wheel, so that it penetrates rather into the outer or peripheral part of the paddle wheel (fig. 1) which, moving at a greater peripheral speed, requires a swirl speed of 'so much bigger. When we close valve 25,
the effective average width of the key passages between the guide vanes decreases as the valve moves closer to its lower seat. 36, so that the change in the shape of the guide vanes produces a condition approaching that due to pivoting guide vanes, such as are commonly employed and, in fact, there is a reduction in the key axial width of the inlet space as the valve closes.
In the valve arrangement shown in the drawings, the bottom wall 28 of the valve does. function of a directing surface or deflector, in contact with the water passing to the impeller and established as a conical surface with a very wide, open angle. with the top facing the rotor ;. having only a slight curvature in the neighboring part of the axis. By this more or less flat shape of the guide surface, it is possible to reduce the distance at which the turbine drive wheel must be placed below the orifices between the guide vanes to allow the valve to be placed. closed. .
In the transition space 44 reserved between the guide vanes and the drive wheel, the water can freely follow its own path and a non-turbulent flow of the liquid veins will be obtained, forming a rotating water current. single, throwing itself fully onto the paddle wheel.
the raising of the valve 25 is. accom plied by the admission of pressurized fluid, through the conduit 37, below the annular piston head 26, into the cylinder space. annular existing between the fixed packing box 17 and the valve 25. Conversely, the lowering of this valve is effected by admitting the fluid under pressure, through: the. 3T conduit, above the piston head @ annular 26.
When one of the conduits 37, 37 'is in the fluid inlet, the other is put in reclusion.
The winnowing described here is very robust: as a coristruction the risks of breakage due to tree branches, blocks of ice or other obstacles are greatly reduced and we have the security that the van can be easily closed. at any time without obstacles resulting from the accumulation of foreign matter. The valve can be closed in a sealed manner by applying the; bushing 34 on seat 36; so that it will usually not be necessary to close the upstream valves: across line 42.
. Among the advantages offered by the construction described, one can. quote, in simplification and key. The certainty of function does not say valve regulator, the following: We can use a simpler arrangement of mobile blades than in other types of - high speed turbines and this offers an advantage - in the study and the construction of the turbine. The rotor. can be made lighter than in other types of turbines, thus reducing the weight of the rotating parts and reducing the load on the thrust bearing.
A relatively number. small vane - is required in the rotor. The spaces between the moving vanes thereof can be large so as to reduce the risk that they are blocked or blocked by branches of trees or debris. Also; the assembly of various elements is: interesting.
As. We see it. in fig: 1 and as we have already said above, the box 17 is located on the crown of the guide vanes 33 which, from this point of view, serve as fixed vanes: The fixed vanes 33 are tr or, - % Tent on the crown 35 which, in turn, rests on the crown 39 and this crown is supported by the fixed vanes 40 which are located on the base 41 of the cone 15, resting on the concrete base 46.
In the. embodiment shown in FIG. 5, the turbine shaft is horizontal and the valve is on the unloaded side of the rotor. The horizontal shaft 51 is mounted in the bearing 52 which is supported by. a head wall 53 clans 16 fixed cylinder 54 including. the flange 55 is fixed: to the box = gasket 56 supported in the ,. solid concrete 57. Another bearing for the shaft 51 is provided in <B> -là </B> head 59 -which is supported by the vanes 60 in the box 61. The shaft 51 carries the mobile vanes 63 .
The water arrives at; through conduit 62 to the right and there is a key swirl movement through vanes 60 which; for this purpose, are curved. Water speed :. est.également increased by the convergence of the passage inside the box 61. The mobile vanes 63 are of the same general type as les.aubes m0 = biles las in fig: 1.
The box 56 is provided with a ring 65 from which extend fixed vanes 63 whose opposite ends. are connected with the ring 64, which e.sf- fixed to the box 61. Around the vanes: fixed 63 is the discharge chamber -volute 66 whose section increases transversely to the flow lines, so to say to boost the speed of the water leaving <B> the </B> rotor 63 and to deliver it, at reduced speed, to the suction tube 67.
The plunger cylinder or valve 69 guiding in a bronze bush '70 of the crown 65 has a bottom wall in the form of a very open angle cone '76 and a flange '71 forming an annular piston head, with a '72 bronze packing in engagement with the inner face of the box 56. The tube <B> 73 </B> is supported by the wall 53 with a slight clearance, 74, around the shaft 51 and the back wall 76 has a bronze bush 77, in contact with the outer surface of the '73 tube. A seat and a bronze bush ring are also shown at 75 to provide a key tight seal to the valve.
In this embodiment, there are no perforations in the bottom wall 76 of. valve (like those 32 in the bottom wall 28 of the valve in fig. 1), so that this bottom wall 76 is always subjected to the pressure existing to the left of the rotor 63, whatever may be this pressure. The pressurized fluid admitted through line 78 acts on the annular piston head 71 and is supplemented by the pressure exerted on the bottom wall 76 to cause the valve to move to the left.
On the contrary, to close the valve, pressurized fluid is admitted through the conduit 78 'and this fluid will act on all of the left faces of the annular piston head 71 and of the bottom wall 76 for move the valve to the right. .
In the two embodiments of the turbine shown here, the valve is keyed so that it can be easily. removed in an axial direction, in order to replace or repair it, without disturbing the parts fixed in the concrete. In the dis position of fig. 1, this removal of the valve can be easily carried out by lifting the part forming the cover 19,. in appearance with the parts attached to it, that is to say the frame 13 and the sleeve 30.
These parts could be arranged so as to be able to be removed over the upper end of the shaft 11 leaving this shaft and the rotor in place; or we could pull back the shaft and the rotor themselves. In any case, the key box ï7 of the pit, with the speed vanes 33; the crown dë'gar- niture 35 and the pad 36 are disturbed no more than the arrangement of the fixed vanes 40 of the vacuum duct., nor the plunger 11a.
