Device for bringing gaseous fluids and liquids into intimate contact with one another. Many devices have been proposed for bringing gaseous fluids and liquids into intimate contact with one another. Most of these devices were designed in such a way that the gaseous fluid was divided as far as possible into numerous streams and these were brought into intimate and caustic contact with the largest possible liquid surface.
Only relatively few of the known devices are set up in such a way that the gases or vapors are introduced into the liquids, because even at shallow immersion depths, the mostly large amounts of gas that have to be conveyed through the liquid require considerable power consumption.
The subject of the present invention is a device for bringing gaseous fluids and liquids into intimate contact with one another, which has a roller with drive rotatably mounted in a container in order to be able to set the roller immersed in the liquid in such rapid rotation, the gaseous fluid torn into the liquid and at the same time a rain of liquid is thrown from the roller into the gaseous fluid.
In the drawing, the object of the invention is illustrated in two embodiments, for example.
Fig. 1 is a section through a first embodiment, Fig. 2 is a top view; Fig. 3 is a section through another embodiment.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2, a is a box-shaped container for holding a liquid b. The box has a gas-tight ceiling c in which there is an inlet opening d and an outlet opening e for the gas. In the middle of the container a, a roller provided with a drive is mounted in such a way that it moves at high speed, for example at 5 in. can be set in rotation.
It is located at such a distance from the ceiling of the container that there is sufficient free space above it. through which the gas can move from the inlet opening d to the outlet opening e. The container is filled with liquid to the extent that the roller f is immersed in the liquid b at the bottom, for example with 50 , u of the volume of the roller.
The roller is driven, for example, by a motor (not shown) through belt transmission to a pulley seated on the shaft g of the roller. The liquid can be enclosed in the container or can flow through it in any direction. In the latter case, appropriately fitted overflow openings can ensure that the liquid level remains the same. It is advisable to set up the overflow opening to be adjustable in order to be able to regulate the liquid level.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, the roller f 1 is installed in the container a 1 in such a way that only between the) r'palze and the cover c 1 of the container an interspace necessary for unhindered rotation of the roller remains, so that there can be as good as no gas passage and an almost gas-tight separation of the gas space .il at the Eirr-,
'End of the container in front of the roller is reached by the gas space i.2 at the outlet end of the container behind the roller. In addition, a screen wall k is attached, which is designed in such a way that it completes the separation of the spaces i1 and i \, so that almost all the gas is forced through under the roller the liquid to go.
Since the roller essentially only has to overcome the friction on the liquid surface and in the bearings during rotation, the power requirement is extremely low despite the intense effect.
The mode of operation of the device is as follows: If the roller is set in rapid rotation. So a layer of liquid will stick to the roller surface due to adhesion and be carried along. In addition, the liquid under the roller is set in a correspondingly rapid forward movement in the direction of rotation as it rotates due to friction.
As a result of the friction of the gas on the surface of the roller and the liquid moved beneath it, the gas located between the roller and the surface of the liquid is entrained and forced to penetrate in finely divided form into the liquid under the roller. This creates an intimate mixture (solution, emulsion) of gas in liquid, so that the opportunity is created for an intensive interaction between the two.
At the same time, there is another effect. As the roller rotates at an increasing speed, the moment comes when the adhesive force of the liquid layer adhering to the roller surface is overcome by centrifugal force and the liquid is thrown off in the form of drops and injected into the gas space.
A rain of liquid, which becomes more and more dense and finer with increasing rotational speed, arises around the cylinder in the gas space, which penetrates and wets the gas above the cylinder in the most effective way, so that in this way too there is an opportunity for an intensive one Interaction between gas and liquid is required.
This is also promoted by it; that the drops of gas falling back on the surface of the liquid on both sides of the roller pull gas into the liquid and send splashes into the gas space.
If, for example, in the embodiment according to FIGS. I and 2, while the roller is rotating rapidly, gas enters through the opening d_, it gets into an extremely finely divided liquid rain and is penetrated by it. Part of the gas migrates from the inlet opening d to the outlet opening e over the whales, hampered by this rain in its speed and therefore forced to touch it. Another smaller part of the gas is driven into the surface of the liquid by the falling drops and mixes with it to form a haze.
Finally, a third part is torn into the liquid by the roller and, under the influence of the strong mechanical influence between the moving liquid surface and the rapidly rotating roller surface, is torn into the liquid.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, the gas enters the 'drip rain on the inlet side. is partly whipped into the liquid by him and can only get to the other side of the roller in the exit space at the same time as it is carried along by the roller and conveyed through the liquid. In this embodiment, it is through The amount of gas passing through the device is much less, but all the gas entering comes into such perfect finite contact with the liquid as is only possible, for example, by emulsification.
The effects described can be weakened and reinforced by simple changes to the devices. First of all, the depth of immersion of the roller can be altered, thereby reducing or increasing the drop fall and the rolling effect. The same can be achieved by changing the speed of rotation and by choosing different roller diameters. The greatest effect is achieved through a high speed, large diameter and low immersion depth of the roller.
The surface properties of the roller also have an influence on the formation of drops and the roller effect. In many cases, a rough surface, which can be achieved, for example, by corrugation, graining, wrapping of fabric (wire) and the like, or the arrangement of depressions or elevations of various types on the roller, has a favorable effect.
The applicability of the device is versatile. First and foremost, it is useful for those cases where it is a matter of bringing about an action of gaseous fluids (gas and vapors) and liquid on one another, for example when a chemically active crystal is bound by a liquid.
Furthermore, when a gas is dissolved in a liquid and also when a gas is combined with a substance foamed in a liquid. The device works favorably when initiating and carrying out gas reactions under the influence of catalysts. Finally, it is also important for gas cleaning.
