Process for the manufacture of products for the explosives industry. It was found that cyanurtriazide, an organic product C3 Nü,
which can be obtained in the pure state by reacting sodium azide and cyano halides without difficulty or in the diazotization of cyanur trihydrazine in combination with intermediates - the diazotization and which is relatively insensitive to friction and not too strong blows or bumps, on the other hand by strong blow or shock or when heated to 170 or when heated suddenly and rapidly, when it explodes, be it in a pure state or in a mixture with other substances,
For example, in the form of the diazotization product mentioned, it is applied to other explosives, especially those that are very difficult to explode, exerts initial effects which far surpass those of all previously used initial ignition agents, such as fumed mercury, lead azide and the like.
In the molten state, the cyanurotriazide is an excellent solvent for most organic substances, in particular all aliphatic and aromatic nitro compounds. It can therefore be used as an addition to these for a wide variety of purposes, for example for grenade fillings, torpedoes, mines, etc. in order to raise awareness and increase the effect.
For example, trinitrotoluene and triazide can be mixed in any ratio in the molten state and do not separate when they cool down. Many salts of organic acids are also considerably soluble in the molten triazide, for example lead picrate dissolves in it up to about 20% and does not separate again when it solidifies.
The present process for the production of products of the explosives industry, for example detonating charges, explosive and propellant charges, is based on the fact that inan cyanurtriazide is used. One can use this both for oneself, be it in the pure state or in the raw state in a mixture with other bodies; For example, those which arise next to him when he is portrayed, as well as together with other means of ignition, fuel or propellants.
The superiority of the cyanuric triazide over the fiery mercury, which was used on the one hand in the pure state, on the other hand in the marketable state, as it is supplied by the explosives industry in the known manner by preparation with the addition of potassium chloride, etc., and against the lead or Silver azide is illustrated by the following examples Example 1:
1 gram of trinitrotoluene is melted in a new copper detonator case No. 8 and, after solidification, forms a column with an average of 20.5 mm in length. If 0.3 gram of cyanuric triazide is pressed onto it and the detonator, which stands vertically on a lead plate, is detonated, the trinitrotoluene explodes completely as a result of the initial effect of the triazide.
None of the others mentioned. The initial ignition agent, in quantities of up to 1 gi, can be pressed onto the trinitrotoluene column in the same way, causing it to explode just as completely.
Example 2: An exposed 100 gr cartridge, consisting of 9I 0. \ o through a sieve with 3600 eyes per square cm. sifted ammonium nitrate and 6 "." o rosin, is replaced by 1 gram of cyanuric triazide, which ISTr. in a copper detonator case. 8 melted down and solidified again, in the same way as was caused by 1 gram of mercury mercury to completely explode.
If 0.5 g of trinitrotoluene, which is in a copper Sprengli: apple shell h, Tr. 8 is melted in and solidified again, only 0.5 gram of cyanuric triazide has been pressed on, this explosive device causes a complete explosion of the exposed 100 gram cartridge in the same way.
If, on the other hand, 0.5 g of prepared fumed mercury is pressed onto the trinitrotoluene, the set produced in this way may only cause an insignificant part of the 100 g cartridge to explode; the majority of the amine nitrate / rosin explosive mixture is recovered unchanged.
Besides its superiority in the initial effect, the cyanuric triazide has a number of very significant advantages over the previously used _ initial explosives 1. It does not contain any heavy or precious metal; 2. It is not toxic, unlike fumed mercury and lead azide; 3. It is insensitive to luminosity, in contrast to fancy mercury; 4. It is insensitive to light, in contrast to lead and silver azide; 5.
There is no danger of metal exchange with the material of the detonator shell, which occurs especially with lead azide, with the formation of dangerous metal compounds, for example Pb K6 - (- Cu = CuXLa + Pb; 6. In contrast to the previously used With the primers it is fusible, and its melting point (940) is so low that (.) the product can easily be heated in.
Water or steam bath in the detonator shell can be melted down. After cooling down, it solidifies with a density of 1 # 5. Because of this property, there is also a. Dead-pressing, as with fatal mercury, excluded.
7. Despite its higher initial effects, cyanuric triazide is less explosive a.15 fumed mercury and lead azide and therefore more suitable than these for the manufacture of Flobert ammunition.
