Pressure fluid brake triple valve regulator device to control the release of fluid from the brake cylinder through the triple valve after the brake is applied. The present invention relates to a regulating device with triple pressurized brake valves for controlling the escape of fluid from the brake cylinder through the triple valve after applying the brake in order to obtain a graduated release of the brake. in relation to the degree to which the pressure in the brake main pipe is restored after the pressure reduction which produced the clamping,
this regulating device comprising a reservoir for fluid under control pressure intended to act on a movable diaphragm interconnected with a second movable diaphragm arranged to be subjected to the fluid pressure of the general pipe and to a spring pressure, in combination with a movable pis ton-drawer intended to receive the exhaust pressure of the brake cylinder, mechanically coupled by means of a lever with the two aforementioned diaphragms and arranged to determine the evacuation out of the fluid of exhaust coming through the triple valve of the brake cylinder.
In the attached drawing, given by way of example: FIG. 1 shows in longitudinal section an embodiment of the key object of the invention as necessary in order to make it understood; Fig. 2 shows a variant of a detail. The regulator device, shown in, fig. 1 comprises a commando pressurized fluid reservoir 1 fixed to a cage 2 forming a housing for a movable key part of the device.
On the key opposite side this cage is a box 3 forming a chamber 4 arranged to be placed in direct communication with the. general brake pipe by means of a lateral tubing 5. The lower part of the box 3 comprises a chamber 6 intended to be placed in communication, at 7 , with the orifice of exhaust from a triple pressure fluid brake valve.
1-th reservoir 1 is intended to be connected to the brake gt_nërale pipe by a junction pipe 8 and, is; maintained at the normal pressure of this pipe. A ball check valve 9 allows the arrival of fluid from the brake general pipe or (the auxiliary reservoir) to the reservoir 1.
but prevents the return of fluid in the opposite direction. - Urie end of tank 1 is closed by a movable diaphragm i0 connected by an intermediate piece 11 to a second -dia- phi a-me movable, 12, subject, on one side, to the, ia ession ré.-nant clans the bedroom 4 in connection with the,
main brake pipe and at the pressure of a spring, with coil 12. @ =: it is mounted coaxially with respect to 1 to the reservoir 1, which is cylindrical in shape, the diaphragms 10, 12 being my tees at the same time. to one another.
The cage 2 together with the diaphragms 10, 1.2 forms a chamber which is in free communication with the external atmosphere and carries, at its top, a small bed fixed in place. by means of a nut 75 and. whose e => lower end is used.
ar- f.iculat.ion to a lever 16 connected by a lon 1 i to the pië @ e intermediate 11 between the diaphragms 10, 1_2. The lower end of this lever is articulated to a ti.e 1.8 fixed in a piston-slide 19 which can slide in a sleeve 20 engaged in the chamber 6.
The piston there 19 is thus subjected to the prevailing fluid pressure. in this room,
which communicates with the exhaust port of the triple valve and in which the spool gun 19 is arranged to control the flow of fluid from chamber 6 through a discharge port 21 leading to the valve. external atmosphere, the furnace 20 being provided for this purpose with a certain number of orifice 22.
The relative arrangement of the different parts interconnecting the diaphragms 10.12 and the piston-slide 19 controlling the flow of fluid to the outside is such that the piston-slide is capable of air by a considerable leverage effect on the part. inter-connection 1i of the cliaphra-mes,
the lever arm between the journal 1'i and the articulation of the rod 18 being considerably larger than that between the journal lon 1T and the articulation on the ankle 1 i.
The operation of the device described is as follows: Before applying the brake, the pressure in the general pipe being at its normal value, this pressure together with the pressure of the spring. 13 is. sufficient to exceed the pressure in reservoir 1.
@ l'oll r'Esulte (read the Cllal: iii @ agni g ill 12 are i-; oussé.s had bulging clan;
the direction -, - towards the reservoir 1 and that, by the lever 16, the piston-slide 1.9 is brought into position to uncover all the orifices 22 of the sleeve 20, establishing free communication between the opening d 'exhaust (the triple valve and the outer atmosphere through the exhaust port 21.
To cause the brake to be applied, the fluid pressure is generally reduced to a predetermined degree whereby the pressure in the reservoir 1 is made to push or deflect the diaphragms 10, 12 in the opposite direction. and to bring, by the lever 16, the slide piston 1.9 to a position in which it masks the orifices 22 of the sleeve 20 in order to intercept the communication of the exhaust orifice. of the triple valve with the external atmosphere.
Suppose that one wishes to produce one of the graduated application of the brakes, the pressure rlan the brake pipe (the brake is restored to one degree, which has the effect of causing the normal operation of the triple valve to allow the pressure to empty evenings. to escape from the brake cylinder to the exhaust port of the triple valve and from there to chamber 6.
The partial reestablishment of the pressure thus effected in the general pipe, in combination with the pressure of the fluid escaping from the brake cylinder through the exhaust port of the triple valve and acting on the inner face of the slide piston 19, requires diaphragms 10, 12 to. bend or bulge towards the tank at. fluid (control 1, which establishes communication between the exhaust port of the triple valve and the external atmosphere 1 has the orifices 22 of the sleeve 20 and the exhaust port 2i.
As soon, however, as the pressure of the brake cylinder is reduced by the flow of fluid therefrom to a, re predetermined, reduced pressure in the brake cylinder acting, on the piston-slide 19 together with the reduced pressure in the general pipe and the effect of spring 1:
, is insufficient to overcome the pressure (the existing fluid in the reservoir 1, which has the effect that the diaphragms 10, 12 will flex in the opposite direction and the piston-slide 19 moves inward to mask the orifices 22 chi sheath 20 and prevent the subsequent flow of pressurized fluid from the exhaust port of the triple valve through chamber 6 to the external atmosphere at \ 1.
It will be understood that the inward movement of the slide piston 19 to intercept the. communication between the exhaust port of the triple valve and the outside atmosphere will be determined by the fluid pressure in the brake cylinder, the fluid pressure in the brake brake pipe and the power of the spring 13. so that the fluid pressure retained in the brake cylinder will be proportional to the value of the pressure restored in the brake main pipe relative to the normal general pipe pressure prevailing in the control tank 1 and which is obtained by there a graduated release of the brake commensurate with the degree of restoration of pressure in the brake pipe after a reduction in pressure therein having. required the brake to be applied.
Referring to fig. 2, it can be seen that the check ball valve 9 is. arranged in the body of a valve 23 acting as a safety or release valve. This valve is housed in a chamber 24 which is connected to the reservoir i by a conduit 25. It moves in a sheath 26 and comprises a head 27 arranged l: to be applied, in the closed position (the valve, against the the lower end of the sleeve 26 and thereby intercept the communication between the conduit 25 and a tubing 28 to be connected to the brake main pipe or to the auxiliary reservoir.
The foil 26 is provided with lateral orifices 29 and the ball valve 9 is freely accommodated in a cavity of the body of the valve 23 which is axially drilled.
The valve 23 is normally held in position (closing by a spring 30 which is preferably of such power that the valve cannot be moved to its open position against the spring 30 due to the pressure. in the reserve see (the command 1 appreciably exceeds the normal pressure in the general brake pipe. If these arrangements were not provided for, it could happen that, in the event that the pressure In the tank 1 would be significantly greater than in the general pipe, the pressure thereof, brought back to the normal value, together with the effect.
chi spring. 13! Fig. 1! will not. not at. even to move all the diaphragms to the right (fig. 1) against the pressure of reservoir 1 in order to release the brake.
It will be understood that in operation, free communication between the general brake pipe and the control fluid reservoir 1 is established by the pipe 25, while the pressurized fluid cannot. pass in the opposite direction, that is to say from the reservoir 1.to the main pipe, due when the pressure in the latter is sufficiently higher than that in the general pipe (- tri-brake to move the valve 23 apart (the its seat on the sleeve 26 against the spring 30.
When the pressure in the brake main line is reduced by a substantial amount to a predetermined degree, the safety or release valve 23 will, therefore, open automatically and allow tra. the escape of pressurized fluid from the reservoir 1 until the pressure therein is reduced to a degree dependent on the reduced pressure existing in the brake main pipe.
