Stato dell’arteState of art

[0002] The interest in the study of foods that have a beneficial function on the human organism has been recognized for a very long time. These foods are typically designated as functional foods or pharma-foods or healthy foods that, in addition to comprising properly nutraceutical components, also have nutritional components selected for characteristics such as high digestibility and hypoallergenicity. More in detail, nutraceutical substances are generally derived from plants, foods and microbial sources. The nutraceuticals par excellence are antioxidants, but there are also probiotics, polinstauri fatty acids such as omega-3s and omega-6s, vitamins and enzyme complexes. Typically these substances are used to prevent chronic diseases, improve health, delay the aging process and increase life expectancy. The nutraceuticals can be taken in the diet of functional foods, both in the form of food as such and of food enriched with a specific active ingredient, for example. milk enriched with vitamin D or omega-3 acids. They can also be taken in the form of food supplements in liquid formulations, in tablets or capsules. The foods to which nutraceutical properties are usually attributed are: red grapes, which contain the antioxidant resveratrol; products containing soluble fiber, such as the seed peel of the plantago to reduce hypercholesterolemia; broccoli, able to prevent various forms of cancer; soy, which contains isoflavones to improve arterial health; and still the red wine; fruit; goat's milk etc. Other examples of nutraceuticals are flavonoid antioxidants, blackberry and blueberry anthocyanins, omega-3s (derived from fish oil), and lycopene. Also many botanical extracts such as ginseng, garlic, etc. possess nutraceutical properties. As mentioned, nutraceutical substances can be taken by the human body even in the form of food supplements. In the latter case it is the case of those specific products aimed at favoring the assumption of certain nutrients not present in an incorrect diet.

[0003] The object of the present invention is to provide a new nutraceutical composition of foods, to be taken with a regime similar to that which involves the intake of the most widespread food supplements. In particular the present invention, described in detail hereinafter, proposes a composition obtained from a new combination of natural foods of which the beneficial effects on the human organism are widely recognized. More in detail the nutraceutical composition object of the invention includes a "matrix" based on cocoa and bran, together with other substances such as mother tincture of carrots and mother-of-rose tincture of dog rose. It is in fact known that cocoa, thanks to its content of mineral salts, vitamins and carbohydrates, is a very energetic food and that it contains a good quantity of antioxidant substances able to attack free radicals and slow down the cellular aging process. Recent studies have in fact shown that the intake of a quantity of cocoa equal to about 20 g per day contributes to the lengthening of life. Furthermore, the theobromine present in cocoa, together with caffeine, has the property of increasing concentration and alertness, while serotonin, also contained in cocoa, has the ability to support the nervous system in the event of depression. It is also known that tyramine, a further component of cocoa, is used for the preparation of antidepressant drugs. All the studies conducted on cocoa confirm that the greatest benefits to the human organism are brought by the consumption of bitter chocolate. In particular, only in bitter cocoa, epicatechin, a flavonoid that gives the classic bitter taste, is able to maintain its antioxidant properties unchanged.

[0004] Bran has several properties that often differ according to the type of bran. In general, however, the bran facilitates intestinal transit, stimulates the motility of the colon, it is also useful for fighting overweight and obesity, and in all those cases in which we wish to counteract overeating. Inflating to the stomach, it has a very high satiety index and is rather low in calories. The bran also helps reduce the absorption of fat and sugar and is therefore a healthy food even in the case of triglycerides or high cholesterol, as in people with glucose intolerance. Bran intake is also important for the production of butyric acid. The latter, if on one side represents an important energy source for the cells of the intestinal mucosa, promoting its replication, on the other it inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells, with a possible protective effect against colon cancer. A correct amount of butyric acid is therefore considered necessary for the metabolic health of the intestinal mucosa and, in general, for the whole organism. As mentioned, the composition in question brings benefits to the organism thanks also to the presence of mother tincture of carrots and dog rose mother tincture. It is indeed known that carrots are very rich in carotenes, the pigments that are transformed by the body into vitamin A. Carrots also contain starch and have a low content of proteins and fats; they contain directly assimilable sugars, mineral fibers and vitamins such as vitamin B1, B2, and PP, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. The beneficial properties of carrots derive mainly from the presence of β-carotene which acts as a prevention against cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Β-carotene is in fact an antioxidant effective against free radicals. Furthermore, the fibers of which are also rich, improve intestinal transit and decrease the level of cholesterol in the blood, thus reducing the risk of macular degeneration. The beneficial effects of wild rose are mainly due to its richness in vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin B. In particular, vitamin C, which in dogs is estimated to be even higher than that contained in citrus fruits, strengthens the immune system, reduces fever, counteracts gallstones, rheumatoic arthritis, joint, kidney and stomach pain and joint stiffness. Several scientific studies have in fact shown that the constant and correct consumption of rosehip brings significant advantages in patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, helping to decrease pain and joint stiffness and promoting a general feeling of not indifferent well-being.

[0006] The composition in question essentially represents a combination of natural products that bring benefits to the human organism. In particular, the polyphenols contained in bitter cocoa are powerful antioxidants that react with free radicals, consequently preventing them from reacting with the cells of the human body and damaging them. The result is a delay in the cellular aging of the human organism.
