Abstract

The invention relates to a head for golf clubs comprising a striking neck (3) via which it is joined to the shaft of a golf club. Said head has a bottom (4) with a fishscale-like profiling. The fishscale-like profiling of the bottom (4) is formed by scales having edges that are convexly curved away from the striking surface (2) of the head (1).

Description

The invention relates to a golf club head consisting of wood, plastic, metal or a combination of at least two of these materials.

Golf club heads made from the materials mentioned above have proven their worth. In the large-sized club heads with a large underside, almost exclusively metal is currently used as the material.

For a long flight length of the ball you need the highest possible club head speed at the moment of contact with the ball. Because the small golf ball with its relatively high weight is mostly embedded somewhat in the grass, the club head must be swung through so deep that the ground is grazed either before or when the ball comes into contact. Especially in high grass, this contact with the ground causes a strong braking effect on the club head and thus a shorter ball flight. The greatest braking effect occurs when the grass is wet, which is very often the case.

The invention is based on the object of reducing the braking action on the swinging club head when in contact with the ground, in order to achieve a large ball flight distance.

According to the invention, this is achieved in that the underside of the club head, which is directed towards the ground, is provided with a three-dimensional, fish-scale-like profile, which not only reduces the wetted area, but also prevents friction-generating vacuum formation by means of air pockets and tear-off edges on the rear of the scale.

For the minimum braking effect between the underside of the club head and the bottom, a club head underside coating made of a low-friction material, such as polytetrafluoroethylene (e.g. Teflon), polyacetal (e.g. Delrin) or polyethylene, is preferably used. Such materials can be produced in a simple manner by hot stamping or injection processes.

An exemplary embodiment of the invention is described in more detail below with the aid of the attached picture. 1 shows a typically shaped golf club head 1 of the so-called "Wood" type, preferably made of metal, such as steel or titanium alloy, with the horizontally grooved club face 2, the club neck 3 which can be connected to the golf shaft, and the club head sole 4 , which is provided with a three-dimensional, fish scale-like profile, which is preferably provided with a low-friction plastic coating.

In contrast to fairway club heads, type "Wood", with ribs attached to the sole in the direction of impact, also called "rails", for the purpose of reducing frictional resistance, the fish scale-like profile according to claim 1 also has no increased frictional resistance when the club head is used its face is not swung across the floor at a right angle.
