The present invention relates to a holding magnet, consisting of a disk-shaped plate made of magnetized material and a holder cap made of thermoplastic material, in which the plate is held.
The invention further relates to a device for producing a holding magnet of the above type.
Holding magnets for attaching objects to magnetic boards or other ferromagnetic substrates have found widespread use in households and businesses, but also in industry. For aesthetic reasons in particular, the holding magnets are arranged in colored plastic holding caps. Depending on the purpose, they are of different sizes. The quality of the permanent magnets available today in terms of magnetic adhesive force is very high. Accordingly, the holding magnets present as platelets could be extremely thin. The minimum size is more or less determined by the handling. If the holding magnet is too thin, it can hardly be grasped. The adhesive force of the magnets has improved considerably in recent years.
The size of holding magnets that is still common today, particularly with regard to their thickness, is an optimization that resulted from the holding force of the magnets of earlier years and the optimal handling. Correspondingly, the thickness of the magnets that are common today varies between around 5 to 8 mm. The disk-shaped plate made of magnetized material, which is the actual holding magnet, usually has a thickness of around 4 to 6 mm. The plastic retaining cap is therefore relatively thin-walled. The disk-shaped plate is usually glued into the holding cap. Either pressure sensitive adhesive or so-called super glue is used for this. It is also very common to attach the disc-shaped plate using double-sided adhesive tape. The latter solution is shown in the drawing in Fig. 2.
With 1 the relatively thick disk-shaped plate made of magnetized material is designated, while the retaining cap made of thermoplastic material is designated with 2. The retaining cap 2 has a top surface 3 and a circumferential wall 4. It would be optimal if the circumferential wall 4 were to protrude the disk-shaped plate 1 by a few tenths of a millimeter in height. However, this tolerance cannot be guaranteed cost-effectively with today's means. The disc-shaped plates made of magnetized material have relatively large tolerances with regard to their dimensions due to the manufacturing process. Both the diameter and the thickness vary in the range of several tenths of a millimeter.
More precisely disc-shaped plates are offered, but understandably they are considerably more expensive.
The holding magnets under discussion here are relatively inexpensive elements. The shipping costs are mainly determined by the weight of the magnetized disc-shaped plates.
The object of the present invention is to create a magnet which is as light and inexpensive as possible and in which the exact protrusion of the circumferential wall over the disk-shaped magnetized plate is ensured.
This contradictory task is solved by a holding magnet with the features of claim 1.
Such a holding magnet can preferably be manufactured with a device which has the features of patent claim 6.
Thanks to the spaced arrangement of the holding magnet from the top surface of the holding cap, a cavity is created which can also be used. According to the invention, this cavity is used to accommodate an insert. Such an insert can be, for example, a carrier which contains an active ingredient. Possible active ingredients are fragrances, antioxidants, insecticides or fungicides.
In the accompanying drawing, a preferred embodiment of the holding magnet according to the invention and the device for manufacturing such a holding magnet is shown. It shows:
Fig. 1 shows a cross section through an inventive holding magnet and
Fig. 2 shows a cross section through a holding magnet representing the prior art.
FIG. 3 shows a section through a heating press mold of a device for producing a holding magnet, as shown in FIG. 1.
As already mentioned at the beginning, FIG. 2 shows a cross section through a holding magnet according to the prior art. The disk-shaped plate made of magnetized material is designated by 1. It lies at least almost completely within a holding cap 2. The holding cap 2 consists of a top surface 3 and a circumferential wall 4. On the inside of the top surface 3 there is a double-sided adhesive tape 5, by means of which the disk-shaped plate 1 is held. While the accuracy of the holding cap 2 made of thermoplastic material is relatively high, both the disk-shaped plate 1 and the double-sided adhesive tape have relatively large dimensional inaccuracies. This is particularly true of the disk-shaped plate 1.
Not only the diameter, but also the thickness of the disc-shaped plate varies in the order of magnitude of +/- 0.5 mm or in some cases even more. Accordingly, the disk-shaped plate made of magnetized material protrudes downward over the circumferential wall 4 or stands back accordingly. As the tolerances of all parts add up, the differences are significant.
The holding magnet according to the invention, as shown in FIG. 1, differs essentially in that the disk-shaped plate 1 made of magnetized material is significantly thinner, no longer lies directly on the inside of the top surface 3 and also the connection between plate 1 and Retaining cap 2 is not positively, but positively.
The holding cap 2 has on an inner surface 6 of the top surface 3 at least one rib 7, the upper edge of which defines a support surface F. The ribs 7 can run in a star shape or represent any other pattern. In a particularly preferred embodiment, only a single, annular rib 7 is attached. This rib 7 runs concentrically to the outer circumferential wall 4. In both extreme cases, the rib 7 can be designed such that the concentric rib runs practically in one piece with the wall 4 and thus resembles a support ledge. The other extreme is that the rib 7 is reduced to a central column. For manufacturing considerations, however, that solution is preferred in which the rib 7 forms a concentric wall with the circumferential wall 4.
This leaves a defined cavity 8, which will be discussed later.
In the fully assembled state, the circumferential wall 4 is designed at the top by thermal deformation in such a way that the plate 1 is held in a form-fitting manner by a flange or bead 10 shaped towards the center. Thanks to the thermal treatment, the circumferential wall 4 is thermally deformed at the end remote from the cover surface, so that the flanging or the bead mentioned arises, which has an at least partially circumferential lip 11 which slightly covers an adhesive surface 12 of the disk-shaped, magnetized plate 1. The thickness of this lip 11 can be limited to around 1-2 tenths of a millimeter. This ensures that the magnetized plate 1 does not lie directly with the adhesive surface 12 on the substrate on a flat surface.
In order to manufacture the holding magnet, as shown in FIG. 1, a device is used which, as the most important and inventive element, has a heating press mold, as is shown, for example, in FIG. 3. Here, the heating press mold is shown in simplified form in the vertical section when not connected. The entire device comprises conventional, purely professional elements, namely a receiving base plate into which one or more retaining caps 2 can be inserted and are operatively connected by means of appropriate conveying means, so that the base plate comes to lie correctly under the heating press mold 20. The heating mold can be moved vertically up and down and connected to direct current.
External threaded bores 24 are used, for example, to connect the negative poles, while a central opening 23 is used to connect a positive pole. The heating press mold is designed in such a way that it has a depression 30 with a diameter which is slightly larger than the diameter which is predetermined by the peripheral wall 4 of the holding cap 2. This recess 30 begins from the outside with a slightly conically inclined wall surface and then merges into an area 22 with an extremely thinned wall area 22. This thinned wall area 22 is adapted in accordance with the shape of the bead or flange 10 to be achieved. The heavily thinned, curved region 22 is adjoined by a thicker region, the inner surface of which is directed toward the retaining cap and slopes slightly upwards toward the center.
This surface 28 ends in a step protruding slightly into the cavity 30. This step forms a stop surface 21 which comes to rest on the adhesive surface 12 of the magnetized plate 1 when the heating mold 20 moves down. If this position is reached, the holding magnet has reached its final, desired shape. When the power is switched on, the thin-walled wall area 22 heats up very quickly to areas from 120 to 130 ° in which the thermoplastic can be deformed, but the same wall area also cools down very quickly as soon as the power is switched off, in view of the much larger surrounding areas Mass that has practically not warmed up. At the same time, part of the amount of heat is also dissipated to the cool magnetic plate 1 via the stop surface 21.
Depending on the cycle time and heating temperature, you can work without additional cooling. However, it is completely unproblematic to additionally cool the heating press mold in the area of the thinned wall 22. Such a cooling line is shown purely schematically at 25. Such a cooling line, which can also be designed integrally in the heating press mold, can be used, for example, to guide a cooling medium into the desired area. In addition to the use of a liquid for cooling, air or gas cooling is also particularly suitable here. For example, the compressed air for controlling the heating mold can also be used for cooling.
The thickness of the thinned wall area is of course related to the size of the holding magnets to be produced, with a wall thickness of 0.2 to 0.7 mm being advantageous for the sizes customary here. If you go below this area, there is a risk of destroying the heating mold, but if you make the wall thicker, the energy requirement increases and the heat capacity in this area increases, which in turn requires an increased cooling capacity. The thinned wall area 22 can be provided with a non-stick or protective covering 26 for protection. Such a protective coating in particular avoids corrosion and wear, or protects against the softened plastic from sticking to the heating press mold. Such non-stick or protective coverings 26 are well known for various technical applications.
The cavity 8 resulting in the holding magnet according to the invention can also be used. Thus, an insert 9 can be inserted into the cavity 8 before the disk-shaped plate 1 is placed on it. This insert 9 can be a long-term scent ball or capsule or a correspondingly impregnated paper, felt or fleece. In addition to fragrances, it can also accommodate insecticides, such as anti-moth agents, or fungicides. All of this is of course largely dependent on where the holding magnet is used.
With the solution shown here, the weight can be considerably reduced compared to conventional holding magnets, in which the plate 1 is glued into the holding cap 2. So far, no holding magnets have been available on the market whose disc-shaped plates have a thickness of 4 mm or less. The disc-shaped plates used here have a thickness of less than 2.5 mm and are normally in the range of 1.5 mm +/- 0.3 mm. As a result, they are around 75% lighter than conventional holding magnets. This not only saves considerable transport costs, but the reduction in dead weight increases the usable adhesive force of the magnet. In addition, there are cost savings on the material and better quality of holding magnets, with practically no rejects during production.
Due to the thermal deformation, a shape adaptation takes place which has extremely high degrees of freedom. As shown in FIG. 3, it is practically insignificant, for example, whether the magnetized plate 1 is located centrally or eccentrically on the ribs 7 between the circumferential walls 4. The different thickness tolerances of the magnet can also be easily absorbed. The retaining cap 2, which is relatively accurate, i.e. with very small deviations from the plastic mold can be designed so that the circumferential wall 4 covers every tolerated dimension of the magnetized disc-shaped plate 1. Although the plate 1 acts practically as welded in after the thermal deformation of the circumferential wall, there is of course no hermetic, gas-tight connection here.
Consequently, gas exchange with the insert 9 in the cavity 8 can still take place. If this is desired, however, one or more gas exchange openings can easily be made in the top surface 3 by injection molding.
An additional advantage is that the connection between the plate 1 and the retaining cap 2 is much stronger than is usually achieved with adhesive. As is known, there are permanent magnets made of rare earths, which have an adhesive force that is around 10 to 20 times higher than that of a conventional ferritic permanent magnet. Holding magnets that were made with platelets made of such material were mostly problematic, as the platelets often came loose from the retaining caps 2.
The astonishing result of the present invention is consequently a substantial cost reduction with a simultaneous considerable improvement in quality, with an extremely simple and inexpensive article.
