The present invention relates to a rectangular gusset envelope with a front wall, a bottom flap connected to it at the bottom rebate - also referred to as the rear wall, a flap hinged to the front wall and two side flaps, each of which forms a side rebate with two side edges, one of which is a side one Edge of the rear wall and the other forms a lateral edge of the front wall.
It is very often desirable to send multi-page brochures and documents, such as brochures with up to 100 pages, in an envelope. Side gusset envelopes of the aforementioned type are ideally suited for this purpose.
Side fold envelopes are very often filled by machine, for which various filling devices are known. In a known mechanical filling process, the envelopes to be enveloped are gripped on a side flap with a gripper and pulled with them over the packaging line.
When filling gusset envelopes according to this method, the problem arises that the gripper clamps the side flap it has gripped in such a way that it is no longer possible to unfold the side double fold formed by this side flap. In other known filling methods, the gripper is temporarily opened during the filling process and can often no longer hold the envelope in the case of thick fillings. The known envelopes therefore lead to significant malfunctions in machine packaging or to the fact that the gusseted envelopes cannot be filled completely or that they have to be enveloped with another packaging machine, for example with a filling machine that grips the envelopes at the closure flap.
To eliminate these disadvantages in the mechanical packaging of gusseted envelopes, the gusseted envelope according to the invention has the features of claim 1.
According to the invention, therefore, the two outer side edges of at least one folded-in side flap cannot be flush over the essential part of their lengths, but offset from one another. This creates a gripper section with a gripping surface for the at least one gripper of the filling device, which does not hinder the unfolding of the side fold in the clamped state.
Instead or in addition, the envelope according to the invention can have a bottom edge in the bottom fold and two parallel fold grooves on at least one side thereof. For mechanical packaging of such gusset envelopes, there is the possibility of gripping the envelope with at least one gripper section arranged on the bottom thereof with a gripper.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
Exemplary embodiments of the invention are described below with reference to the accompanying drawing. The drawing shows:
1 shows a blank before it is folded into an envelope,
2 is a view of the back of a blank folded into an envelope with the rear wall broken open,
3 is a view in the direction of arrow III of FIG. 2 on a larger scale,
4 shows a rear view of another gusseted envelope, a part of which is broken open and shown in the flat, unfolded state of the blank,
5 shows a section through the gusseted envelope according to FIG. 5 along the line V-V, on a larger scale, and
6 is a simplified view of the gusseted envelope in the direction of arrow VI in FIG. 4, but on the same scale as FIG. 5.
To produce the gusseted envelope, the blank 1 shown in FIG. 1 is used, which is formed from the following parts. The flap 3 is connected to one longitudinal edge of the front and / or front wall 2, and the bottom flap and / or rear wall 4, which is also called the rear, is connected to the other longitudinal edge. A side flap 5 is articulated on each of the two narrow sides of the front wall 2. In the envelope 6 produced from such a blank, as can be seen from FIGS. 2 and 3, the side flaps 5 are glued to the inside of the rear wall 4. The side flaps 5 can also be glued to the outside of the rear wall 4.
It is thereby avoided that any parts protrude into the filling opening formed by the closure flap 3 and the front wall 1 on the one hand and the free edge 4a of the rear wall 4 on the other hand, which could give rise to malfunctions during filling.
So that the envelope 6 can be produced from the blank 1, it usually takes a few work steps, namely the application of fold grooves, the application of an adhesive layer and the folding along the fold grooves provided.
To form the side double fold according to the invention, four fold grooves are required, which are preferably arranged at constant distances from one another, namely
the fold grooves 7 and 8, which in the folded state form the side edge 7a of the envelope front wall 2 and the side edge 8a of the envelope rear wall 4,
- The fold groove 9, which together with the grooves 7 and 8 serves to form the side double fold, in that the side flap around the fold groove 7 inwards, around the fold groove 9 outwards and around the fold groove 8 again is folded inside, and
- The folding groove 10 which, together with the folding groove 7, delimits the gripper section intended for the at least one gripper with a gripping surface which, in the exemplary embodiment shown, corresponds to the side edge section of the front wall 2 which is specified in more detail below.
The envelope 6 shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 still requires five further fold grooves, namely
the fold groove 11, which delimits the envelope front wall 2 from the envelope rear wall 4 and, together with the regions of the front wall 2 and rear wall 4 adjoining it, forms the bottom fold,
the fold grooves 12 and 13 which run parallel to the fold groove 11 and which are in turn intended to form the envelope bottom which, in the state of use, forms the envelope pocket together with the unfolded side flaps 5,
- And the two fold grooves 14 and 15 for folding in the flap 3rd
In a further processing step, the adhesive layer 16 is applied. The envelope according to the invention can additionally be modified by providing it with a self-adhesive closure in which the adhesive layer is covered by a cover strip.
To produce the envelope according to the invention, which can have a commercial format of, for example, C5 / 6 to B4 and larger, the side flaps 5 are first folded in, starting from the blank 1, in such a way that one each delimited by the fold groove 7 and the Rear wall 4 laterally protruding and intended for the gripper of the filling device side edge area and / or gripping section d of at least 3 mm, for example 5 mm to 10 mm and preferably about 6 mm wide. Subsequently, the rear wall 4 is folded inwards around the fold groove 11 and glued on to the folded-in side flaps 5.
The distances between the fold grooves 12 and 13, and between the fold grooves 14 and 15 are preferably of the same size, essentially correspond to the distance between the fold grooves 10 and 8 of the side flaps 5 and are 5 mm to 30 mm, for example approximately 20 mm.
The blank 101, partially drawn in a flat, unfolded state in FIG. 4, serves to form the gusseted envelope 106 shown in FIGS. 4, 5, 6. The blank 101 has several parts, which have the rectangular, namely rectangular front 102 and / or Form front wall 102, closure flap 103, bottom flap 104 and / or rear wall 104 and the two side flaps 105 of the finished gusset envelope 106. 4, 5, 6 it should also be noted that the envelope in FIG. 4 is drawn with the flap open, in an empty and "flat" state, in which the front wall 2 and the rear wall 4 are at least approximately in contact with one another. In contrast, the front wall and the rear wall in FIGS. 5 and 6 are separated by a space, so that the envelope can accommodate a filling.
Otherwise, the closure flap 103 is drawn in FIG. 5 both in the flat state in the open position and in the folded state.
The envelope 106 in turn has a number of fold grooves, which are referred to as pre-break lines in the case of a flat, unfolded cut. On and / or next to the two narrow sides of the front wall 102 there are three fold grooves 107, 108, 109 which, when unfolded, are straight and parallel to one another and spaced from one another. The fold grooves 107 form the side edges 107a of the front wall 102 in the finished envelope. The fold grooves 108 form the side edges 108a of the rear wall 104. If the envelope is empty and its front wall and rear wall are at least approximately adjacent to one another, these are those between the fold grooves 107, 108 Areas folded inwards so that the fold grooves 109 are located within the fold grooves 107, 108 or side edges 107a, 108a.
The fold grooves 107, 108, 109 and the areas of the envelope present between them and / or adjoining them form its side folds, which in turn are designed as double side folds with a central section folded inwards.
At the lower, bottom-side longitudinal edge of the front wall 102 and its connection to the rear wall 104 there are at least three and namely five fold grooves 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, which are straight and parallel to one another at least in the case of a flat cut, are at a distance from one another and together form the bottom fold with the areas of the envelope located between them and / or adjacent to them.
The fold groove 111 is located in the finished envelope 106 in the middle of the bottom fold at the lowest point of this and the entire envelope and forms a bottom edge 11a. The two fold grooves 112, 113 are located on one side of the fold groove 111 or bottom edge 111a between the latter and the front wall 102. The two fold grooves 114, 115 are located on the other side of the fold groove 111 or bottom edge 111a between the latter and the rear wall 104 In the finished envelope, the fold grooves 113 and 115 form the lower, bottom longitudinal edges 113a and 115a of the front and rear walls, respectively. If the envelope is in the flat state shown in FIG. 4, the sections between the fold groove 111 or the bottom edge 111a and the fold grooves 113, 115 or longitudinal edges 113a, 115a are essentially at least approximately flat and even.
The strip-shaped sections of the envelope present between the folding grooves 111, 112 and between the folding grooves 111, 114 form gripping sections 116 and 117 with gripping surfaces on which a gripper, not shown, can engage and grasp the envelope. If the front wall and the rear wall of the envelope are at a distance from one another, the sections of the envelope base adjoining the fold grooves 112 and 114 run outwards from the fold grooves 112, 114 and away from one another to the fold grooves 113, 115 or longitudinal edges 113a, 115a.
When the upper longitudinal edge of the front wall 102 is connected to the closure cap 104, there are at least two and, for example, three fold grooves 121, 122, 123, which in turn are straight and parallel to one another and are at a distance from one another, at least in the case of a flat cut. The closure flap 103 is provided with an adhesive layer 125.
The distances between the fold grooves 113, 115 from the fold groove 111 are of the same size and are preferably at least 3 mm, preferably at most 10 mm and for example approximately 5 mm. The distances of the fold grooves 107, 108 from the fold grooves 109, the distances of the fold grooves 113, 115 from the fold grooves 112 and 114 and the distances of the fold grooves 121, 123 from the fold groove 122 are, for example, approximately or exactly the same size and are accordingly desired, maximum distance of the front wall 102 from the rear wall 104 is preferably at least 5 mm, preferably at most 15 mm and for example approximately 10 mm.
Unless otherwise previously written, the envelope 106 can be designed and manufactured in the same or a similar way as the envelope 6.
The gusseted envelope can be changed in other ways. In particular, features of the two envelopes 6, 106 can be combined with one another and, for example, an envelope can be provided which has the same side double folds as the envelope 6 and the same bottom fold as the envelope 106. In the case of the envelope 6 described first, the gripper can grip the envelope for machine filling at one of the side double folds, while the gripper can grip the envelope 106 shown in FIGS. 4 to 6 at the bottom fold. In the case of the envelope described above with features of the envelopes 6 and 106, a gripper can optionally grip the envelope in at least one of the side folds and / or in the base fold.
In the case of the envelope described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 4 and intended to be gripped by one of the side folds, the three fold grooves 11, 12, 13 can be replaced by a single fold groove arranged on the bottom of the envelope.
Furthermore, an envelope intended for gripping the bottom fold can possibly be produced, which has a bottom which is asymmetrical in cross-section and bottom fold and only two fold grooves on one side of the bottom edge. The bottom edge 111a can then, for example, coincide with and / or form the longitudinal edge 113a. Between the bottom edge and the rear wall 104 there are then two folding grooves located above the bottom edges and corresponding to the fold grooves 114, 115. The bottom edge could instead also coincide with the side edge 115a, two fold grooves corresponding to the fold grooves 112, 113 then being present between the bottom edge and the front wall 102.
