with the proviso that the percentages by weight given relate in each case to the total weight of the bisstyryl compounds of the formulas I to V, the sum of the bisstyryl compounds of the formulas I to V giving 100% by weight, and the brightener mixtures 75 to 100% by weight. %, based on the weight of the brightener mixture, of the bisstyryl compounds of the formulas I to V, preparations containing the new mixtures and their use for optically brightening synthetic, semisynthetic or natural polymer materials.
Mixtures of optical brighteners are already based on GB-A-2 200 660, EP-A-238 446, EP-A-321 393, DE-A-4 219 772 and the earlier application PCT / EP 94/02 914 of bisstyryl compounds.
The object of the present invention was to provide new brightener mixtures based on bisstyryl compounds which are easily accessible and have advantageous application properties, in particular a high degree of whiteness.
Accordingly, the brightener mixtures identified at the outset were found.
The new brightener mixtures each contain, based on the weight of the mixture, 75 to 100% by weight, preferably 80 to 100% by weight and in particular 85 to 100% by weight of the bisstyryl compounds of the formulas I to V.
Brightener mixtures containing, based on the weight of the mixture, 85 to 90% by weight of the bisstyryl compounds of the formulas I to V are of particular technical interest.
The brightener mixtures according to the invention can generally be used as residual amounts, e.g. nor the compound of formula VI

and contain salts.
The brightener mixtures according to the invention preferably contain, based on the total weight of the bisstyryl compounds I to V, 30 to 45% by weight of the bisstyryl compound of the formula 1, 40 to 50% by weight of the bisstyryl compound of the formula II and 0.5 to 5% by weight. %, in particular 1 to 3.5% by weight, of the bisstyryl compound of the formula III and additionally 1 to 15% by weight, in particular 5 to 15% by weight of the bisstyryl compound of the formula IV and / or 1 to 15% by weight. -%, in particular 5 to 15% by weight of the bisstyryl compound of the formula V.
The new brightener mixtures can e.g. by mixing the individual components in the appropriate weight ratio. The individual components can be obtained by methods known per se. For example, terephthalaldehyde can be reacted in an inert organic diluent in a basic medium with alkyl cyanobenzylphosphonic acid esters.
The present invention further relates to brightener preparations containing water and, based in each case on the weight of the preparation, 3 to 25% by weight, preferably 5 to 15% by weight, of the brightener mixture specified in more detail above and 5 to 60% by weight. %, preferably 5 to 52% by weight, of auxiliaries.
Suitable tools are e.g. anionic or nonionic dispersants, from the class of ethylene oxide adducts with fatty alcohols, higher fatty acids or alkylphenols or ethylenediamine-ethylene oxide-propylene oxide adducts, or dispersants, as described in DE-A-2 745 449, copolymers of N-vinylpyrrolidone with 3-vinylpropionic acid, water retention agent , such as ethylene glycol, glycerin or sorbitol, or biocides.
A preferred brightener preparation contains water, in each case based on the weight of the preparation, 3 to 25% by weight, preferably 5 to 15% by weight, of the brightener mixture specified above, 3 to 12% by weight of anionic or nonionic dispersant, 1 to 15% by weight of copolymers of N-vinylpyrrolidone with 3-vinylpropionic acid and 1 to 25% by weight of other auxiliaries (for example water retention agents or biocides).
The brightener mixtures according to the invention are advantageously suitable for optically brightening synthetic, semisynthetic or natural polymer materials, preferably polyester. The polyesters are in textile form. This includes in particular fibers, yarns, threads, knitwear, woven goods or non-wovens. The new brightener mixtures have favorable application properties at low fixing or pull-out temperatures. In addition, they have a high yield. Another advantage of the new brightener mixtures is that they can be used successfully even at higher temperatures, in particular in the range from 200 to 220 ° C.

The bath is then heated to 130 ° C. in the course of 30 minutes and kept at this temperature for a further 30 minutes. The fabric is then rinsed and dried.
The concentration of brightener preparation in the liquor (containing the respective brightener mixtures from Examples 1 to 16) was 0.22% by weight and 1.0% by weight, respectively. Good lightening effects were achieved in all cases.
b) Thermosol process
Polyester fabric is padded at room temperature with an aqueous liquor containing x g / l brightener preparation. The fleet intake is 60%. The fabric is then dried and then fixed at 190 ° C. for 30 seconds.
The concentration of brightener preparation in the liquor (containing the respective brightener mixtures from Examples 1 to 16) was 2.7 g / l and 10 g / l, respectively. Good lightening effects were achieved in all cases.
