Fig. 6 zeigt einen schnell arbeitenden Drucker 1, der vier unterschiedliche Kassetten 9; 9a, 9b, 9c, 9d enthaltend unterschiedliche Einzelblätter, Deckblätter usw. D, E, F, G aufweist.
The invention relates to a presentation device for single sheets according to the preamble of claim 1. The invention further relates to a method for presenting single sheets according to the preamble of claim 7 or 10.
It is known to supply printers with single sheets to be printed. In the following, a printer is also understood to mean a high-speed printer, a copier, a fax or a similar device designed for printing on single sheets. Such a high-speed printer has, for example, a printing speed of 60 to 100 sheets per minute.
Known presentation devices for feeding single sheets to a printer are designed as cassettes, in which a stack consisting of single sheets is stored. A disadvantage of such presentation devices is the fact that they are not able to provide the cut sheets very quickly. In addition, the cartridges have to be refilled constantly.
It is an object of the present invention to propose an apparatus and a method which is capable of presenting individual sheets to a printer in an economically advantageous manner.
The single sheets can be called up in a controlled manner and quickly submitted to a printer.
This object is achieved with a device having the features of claim 1. Subclaims 2 to 6 relate to further advantageous configurations of the device. The object is further achieved with a method having the features of claim 7 or 10. Subclaim 8 relates to a further, advantageous method.
The object is achieved in particular with a presentation device for arrangement between a feed device for single sheets and a single sheet feeder determining a feed direction, the presentation device comprising a support means having a support surface for a single sheet, a drive means having an operative connection to the support means, a drivable feed roller and one Stop, the support means being movably mounted in a direction approximately perpendicular to the support surface and can be transferred from the drive means into a lower stop position and into an upper conveying position, the stop being arranged in such a way that the support means in the stop position defines a stop in the conveying direction Has contact surface,
and wherein the support means is raised in the conveying position and arranged with respect to the feed roller such that a single sheet located on the support surface comes into contact with the feed roller in order to feed the single sheet in the feed direction towards the single sheet feeder by the rotating feed roller.
In a preferred embodiment, the support means is pivotally mounted on one end section and is pivotally driven on the other end section by a linear drive arranged below the support means. During the operation of the feed device, the feed roller is constantly driven and therefore rotates continuously.
An advantage of the original device according to the invention is the fact that a single sheet can be fed to the single sheet feeder of the printer within a very short period of time, for example a few 100 ms, and with a very low reaction tolerance of, for example, +/- 20 ms. The single sheets are to be delivered to a fast-working printer either at regular intervals or at irregular, in particular unpredictable, intervals. For the reliable operation of a high-speed printer, the fact that after a control signal requesting a single sheet, this single sheet is to be delivered in a short time and with the highest possible repeatability in terms of time. This is the only way to ensure fast and continuous operation of the fast printer.
In the presentation device according to the invention, the support means has a low mass and consists, for example, of a thin, light and preferably rigid sheet. In a preferred embodiment, this low-mass support means is driven by a fast-reacting linear drive with a low movable mass, so that the support means can be transferred very quickly from the stop position into the conveying position. The end of the support means facing the single sheet feeder of the printer is raised above the stop, the single sheet located on the support surface of the support means coming into contact with the feed roller in the conveying position and being conveyed by the latter in the direction of the single sheet feeder.
This presentation device according to the invention is capable of feeding a single sheet to the single sheet feeder by actuating the linear drive within a very short period of time and with a high temporal repeatability.
The original device according to the invention is intended to be arranged between a feed device for single sheets and a single sheet feeder of a printer. The feed device for single sheets can, for example, have a stack of single sheets which are fed individually to the feed device according to the invention. The feed device can also have a supply roll, the paper web of which is initially cut into individual sheets in order to subsequently feed the individual sheets to the original device according to the invention. The original device according to the invention therefore enables the single sheet feed of a printer with an endless supply of single sheets, i.e. to supply a paper web stored on a paper roll. The presentation device according to the invention could also be arranged within a printer.
The invention is described in detail using exemplary embodiments. Show it:
Fig. 1 shows schematically a side view of the presentation device in the stop position;
Fig. 2 schematically shows a side view of the presentation device in the conveying position;
3 shows a top view of the presentation device;
4 shows a plan view of a further presentation device;
5 shows a timing diagram of the control of the presentation device;
6 shows a presentation device coupled to a printer.
1 shows the original device 2, which is arranged between a feed device 3 and a printer 1, in a stop position B. The schematically illustrated printer 1 has a single sheet feeder 1a, which determines a conveying direction 5 into which the single sheets 4 are to be fed. The original device 2 comprises a support means 2e, which is designed as a thin plate and has a support surface 2n for the single sheet 4. The single sheet 4 lies on the support surface 2n per se, but is shown at a slight distance from the support surface 2n for better illustration. Against the single-sheet feeder 1a, the support surface 2n is limited by the stop 2g, which has a stop surface 2m. The support means 2e is pivotally mounted at one end about a joint 2f.
At the opposite end section, the support means 2e is connected via an articulated connection 21 and a rod 2h to a linear drive 2i, which allows the support means 2e to be moved in the direction of movement 2k. The direction of movement 2k runs approximately perpendicular to the contact surface 2n. In a preferred arrangement, the contact surface 2n extends in an approximately horizontal direction and the direction of movement 2k accordingly extends in an approximately vertical direction. A feed roller 2a is arranged opposite the linear drive 2i with respect to the support means 2e and has a center of rotation 2b and can be driven in the direction of rotation 2c by a motor 2d. During the operation of the feed device 2, the feed roller 2a is advantageously continuously operated at a constant angular velocity.
A sensor 6a with an electrical supply line 6b monitors whether a single sheet 4 is located at the stop 2g of the support means 2e. Another sensor 6c with electrical supply line 6d arranged within the printer 1 monitors whether and when a single sheet 4 enters the printer 1 through the input slot 1a. The feed line 6b is connected to a control device, not shown, which controls the motors 2d, 3d, 3h and the linear drive 2i. In addition, this control device receives a control signal from printer 1, with which control signal it is indicated that a single sheet 4 is to be fed to printer 1.
In a preferred mode of operation, the motor 2d runs continuously, whereas the motors 3d, 3h are operated in a controlled manner in a start-stop mode in which these motors 3d, 3h are activated when a single sheet 4 is fed to the original device 2.
The schematically illustrated feed device 3, a belt conveyor, comprises two conveyor belts 3a, 3e, between which a single sheet 4 is fed to the feed device 2. The conveyor belts 3a, 3e are deflected on deflection rollers 3b, 3f driven by motors 3d, 3h in the direction of rotation 3c, 3g. In addition, a pressure roller 3i is provided in order to safely transfer the single sheet 4 to the support means 2e. Since the conveyor belt 3a is constantly moving, the single sheet 4 is continuously pushed against the stop 2g as long as the original device 2 is in the stop position B, so that the single sheet rests securely on the stop surface 2m.
2 shows the delivery device 2 in a conveying position C. The conveying position C has the properties that, compared to the illustration according to FIG. 1, the support means 2e is raised by the drive means 2i, such that the support surface 2n is above the input slot 1a the stop surface 2m comes to rest, whereby the single sheet 4 resting on the support surface 2n also comes into contact with the feed roller 2a rotating in the direction of rotation 2c and is thereby moved in the feed direction 5 into the single sheet feeder 1a. As soon as the single sheet 4 is captured in the printer 1 by conveying devices, not shown, the support means 2e can be pivoted back into the stop position B according to FIG. 1 by the drive means 2i.
In FIG. 2 too, the single sheet rests on the support surface 2n of the support means 2e, in particular in the section in which the single sheet 4 is pressed against the support surface 2n by the feed roller 2a. The position of the single sheet 4 is shown in FIG. 2, similar to that in FIG. 1, arranged at a distance from the support surface 2n for better understanding.
FIG. 3 shows a top view of the template device 2 according to FIG. 1 from viewing direction A. The single sheet 4 lies flat on the support means 2e and touches the stop surface 2m over the entire length with the front edge pointing in the feed direction 5. This stop surface 2m has the advantage that the position of the single sheet 4 is precisely aligned, in particular aligned perpendicular to the feed direction 5. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the feed roller 2a is designed as a roller 2a which extends almost over the entire width in the direction of the axis of rotation 2b. The feed roller 2a could also consist of a plurality of individual rollers which are spaced in the direction of the axis of rotation 2b and which are mounted concentrically with respect to the axis of rotation 2b.
In a preferred embodiment, the feed roller 2a, or the roller or the individual rollers have a rubber coating or consist of rubber in order to securely grasp the single sheet 4 and move it in the feed direction 5.
The original device 2 according to the invention for feeding single sheets 4 to a single sheet feeder 1a of a printer 1 is operated in such a way that the single sheet 4 is presented to the printer 1 individually, in which the single sheet 4 is fed to the support means 2e located in the stop position B and by the stop 2g with respect to the feed direction 5 determined by the printer 1, that the aligned single sheet 4 is moved by the support means 2e in a direction 2k substantially perpendicular to the single sheet 4 into the conveying position C and thereby in contact with the feed roller 2a rotating in the feed direction 5 brought and conveyed in the feed direction 5, and that the support means 2e is moved back to the stop position B after the feed of the single sheet 4.
In the illustrated embodiment, the support means 2e is pivotally mounted about the axis of rotation 2f. The support means 2e could also be raised differently, for example by a linear drive acting on both end sections of the support means 2e on both sides. In addition, the support means 2e could also be designed to be stationary, and the feed roller 2a, together with the stop 2g, could be displaceably mounted in the direction of movement 2k and driven by a linear drive 2i.
The presentation device 2 according to FIG. 4, otherwise configured in the same way as the presentation device 2 shown in FIG. 3, has lateral guide means 2n which are pivotably mounted about a pivot point 2q in the direction of movement 2o. These guide means 2n also serve to align the single sheet 4 laterally in a defined position, in which a single sheet 4 located at the stop 2m is laterally aligned by moving the guide means 2n into the position 2p shown in broken lines. The guide means 2n could also be designed such that it is aligned in the position designated 2p and is displaceably supported by a parallel displacement, perpendicular to the orientation according to 2p, so that the guide means 2n are pushed parallel to the single sheet 4 on both sides.
5 shows a diagram on the abscissa the time in milliseconds and on the ordinate the voltage of the signals is entered in volts. The printer 1 generates a control signal 11, with the pulse 11a shown prompting a feed for a single sheet 4. After the pulse 11a is present, the original device 2 conveys a single sheet 4 through the input slot 1a to the printer 1. From the signal 12 measured by the sensor 6c, the passage of the front edge of the single sheet 4 through the flank 12b can be seen. The flank 12a indicates the passage of the rear edge of the single sheet 4. The reaction time t1 has passed from the beginning of the pulse 11a to the passage of the rear edge of the single sheet at the sensor 6c. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the presentation device 2 according to the invention has a response time t1 of 520 ms.
This represents the shortest, and therefore system-related, reaction time for the illustrated presentation device 2. If a longer time is required until the leading edge of the single sheet 4 passes through, the pulse 11a can be delayed by the control device. However, it is not only a short reaction time t1 that is important, but also a small scatter of the reaction times, which is shown by the reaction tolerance DELTA t. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the rear edge of the single sheet 4 passes through the sensor 6c with a reaction tolerance time DELTA t of a maximum of +/- 20 ms. This short reaction tolerance time DELTA t is due to the inventive design of the delivery device 2 and its control.
Such a short reaction tolerance time DELTA t is of crucial importance for the operation of a fast-working printer 1 with a printing speed of, for example, 80 single sheets per minute, which is explained in detail with the aid of the illustration according to FIG. 6.
Fig. 6 shows a fast-working printer 1, the four different cartridges 9; 9a, 9b, 9c, 9d containing different single sheets, cover sheets etc. D, E, F, G. In addition, the printer 1 has an input slot 1a for single sheets 4, the original device 2 being shown in the conveying position C according to FIG. 2. A paper roll 8 is arranged upstream of the conveying device 3, and a paper web 8a is drawn off with the aid of conveying rolls 13a, 13b and is fed to a cutting device 7. The cutting device 7 has a movable cutting blade 7a, which cuts the paper web 8a into single sheets 4. In the exemplary embodiment shown, a single sheet 4 is fed to the printer 1 by the feeding device 2, and a second single sheet 4 is fed to the feeding device 2 by the conveying device 3.
The printer 1 has an internal conveying path 10 for single sheets, in which the individual feed sections 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d, 10e open. H denotes the individual sheets 4 that are usually most needed by printer 1. The arrangement shown in FIG. 6 has the advantage that the less frequently needed single sheets, cover sheets etc. D, E, F, G are stored in the cassette, whereas those in FIG individual sheets E required for large quantities are provided by a paper roll 8.
The printer 1 requires a predetermined sequence of single sheets for the printing process, this sequence being composed, for example, of the following sheets: D, H, H, H, E, H, H, E, H, H, G. a cover sheet, E a colored single sheet and G a back sheet, whereas H denotes the white, most frequently required single sheet 4. In order to ensure continuous printing, it is necessary, for example, that the individual sheets in the internal conveying path 10 have a regular mutual distance of, for example, 2 cm. A control device is therefore provided in the printer 1, which controls the release of the individual sheets 4 of the individual cassettes 9a, 9b, 9c, 9d and the presentation device 2 in such a way that a regular mutual distance in the conveying path 10 is maintained.
It is of central importance here that the feeding of a single sheet 4 through the feed device 2, as shown in FIG. 5, has a short reaction tolerance time DELTA t, because this is the only way to ensure that, for example, two successive single sheets E have a defined mutual distance or the mutual distances have little scatter. The higher the feed speed of the single sheets or the faster a printer is operated, the more important is the requirement for a short reaction tolerance time DELTA t.
The template device 2 according to the invention makes it possible, for example, to equip an interface of a printer 1 previously provided for manual input of single sheets with an endless feed of single sheets 4. The presentation device 2 according to the invention with an additional conveying device 3, cutting device 7 and paper roll 8 can be controlled by a control device such that only the signal 11 shown in FIG. 5 is required to control printer 1, with which the delivery of a single sheet 4; H is requested. It is thus possible to provide a printer 1 having an input or an input slot 1a for single sheets 4 in a cost-effective manner with an endless feed of single sheets.
