The present invention relates to a wire sawing method with a device comprising a sheet of wires capable of moving in a continuous or reciprocating movement in abutment against a workpiece thus defining a sawing zone, this sawing zone being made up of a set of cylinders placed in parallel. These cylinders called wire guides are engraved with grooves which define the interval between the wires of the sheet, that is the thickness of the slices to be sawed.
We know that a photovoltaic solar cell produced on a crystalline substrate such as silicon, germanium, gallium arsenide or others, gives better results if its surface has a structure or texture which, instead of reflecting part of the light towards outside (which is the case for flat surfaces), returns it inside the structure to be used in the photovoltaic conversion process. This texture in general is obtained by mechanical or laser engraving. The time to obtain it is relatively long (several minutes to several tens of minutes). Such an operation is therefore expensive and loses its interest in the context of mass production.
The solution which consists in producing this texture during sawing by adding a perpendicular movement to the advance movement of the table makes it possible to obtain a texture of the surface without any additional operation being necessary. We will therefore obtain slices which will give, after transformation into photovoltaic solar cells, conversion yields higher than sawed slices without texturing.
The alternative movement of texturing can take different forms depending on the result to be obtained. It can be sinusoidal, square, sawtooth, rectangular or other. The pulsation of the movement will be a function of the cutting speed, when its amplitude will be a function of the depth of the texture. The amplitude as well as the depth will be between a few hundredths of a millimeter and a few tenths of a millimeter. The sawtooth or rectangular shape in some cases gives the best results.
Temperature control devices are already known especially in the machining of high precision parts or positioning in robotics where either a shower or an internal circulation is used. However, these use cooling systems based on monitoring the temperature of the fluid and not on a system using position measurement to regulate the temperature. Such a system can be applied to guide elements, rotating cylinders, having at least one fixed point, for example a bearing.
Wire sawing devices of the aforementioned type are already known, especially in the electronic components, ferrites, quartz and silica industry, for obtaining thin slices of materials such as poly- or monocrystalline silicon or new materials such as GaAs, InP, GGG or also quartz, synthetic sapphire, even ceramic. The high price of these materials makes wire sawing more attractive compared to other techniques such as diamond disc sawing. However, none of them adds to its functions a movement of texturing of the surface.
The object of the invention therefore consists in superimposing on the cutting movement an alternative movement which generates a surface texture thus improving the photovoltaic property of the cell obtained with this process, this movement being able to be obtained by a perpendicular mechanism linked to the table or to the wire guide cylinder. In the first case, the movement will be made at the workpiece, while in the second case, the movement will be printed on the entire ply of wires. The process which is the subject of the present invention is as defined in claim 1.
The sawing device for implementing this process, and another object of the present invention, comprises on the one hand a sheet of wires capable of moving in a continuous or reciprocating movement and pressing against a workpiece to be sawn by a support table, and supported by wire guide cylinders, and on the other hand means for relatively and regularly moving the position of the piece to be sawed with respect to the wire ply, so as to simultaneously form a texture on the surface cut slices, for example intended for the manufacture of photovoltaic cells.
The accompanying drawings illustrate schematically and by way of example devices in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 1 illustrates in perspective the principle of application of the present invention.
Fig. 2 shows the schematic section of cut slices and having three different possible surface textures.
As illustrated in fig. 1, the workpiece to be sawed 2 is pressed against the ply of wires 3 by the support table 4. The ply of wires 3 is itself stretched between wire guide cylinders 1. The continuous sawing movement 5 is given by table 4, while the alternative texturing movement can be given either by a movement 6 of the table 4, or by a movement 7 of the thread guides 1, a combination of the two being conceivable.
Fig. 2 represents three schematic sections of slices with a possible texture from various alternative movements:
a) reciprocating rectangular movement
b) reciprocating triangular movement
c) reciprocating sawtooth movement
The saw wire forming the sheet stretched by the wire guides generally consists of spring steel with a diameter of between 0.1 and 0.2 mm in order to saw blocks of hard or exotic materials (such as silicon, germanium, GaAs, InP, etc.) intended for the manufacture of photovoltaic cells. The device described in the present invention makes it possible, by adding a transverse movement as described, to cut the slices by texturing them to obtain better photovoltaic conversion factors.
Naturally, other types of device can be envisaged in the context of the present invention. In fact, the texturing aspect of the surface being sawed must be kept in mind as allowing an increase in the photovoltaic yield to be obtained. Thus for example, it would be possible to imagine a system based on the displacement of the ply of wires or on a rotation of the workpiece. In addition, the movement can be carried out by mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic or other systems.
