The invention relates to a pressing tongs for producing pipe connections according to the preamble of claim 1.
A pressing tongs of this type is the subject of DE-U 9 405 783. Similar pressing tongs are disclosed in DE-C 2 709 946 and DE-U 9 103 264. Such crimping pliers are used in the production of press connections, for example according to EP-B 0 390 740.
To produce such connections, one end of a composite pipe is pushed onto a fitting and the pushed-on pipe end is pressed with the plastic pliers using the crimping pliers. Such press connections are unsolvable. So that the press connections are permanently tight, the pressing must be carried out very precisely and reliably and with the appropriate clamping force.
Pliers drive devices are used to pivot the press levers, which have rollers that can be moved with constant driving force against the spreading arms of the press levers. The spreading arms are moved apart and the press levers are pivoted. In order for the required clamping force to be achieved, a suitable pliers drive device must have a comparatively high driving force, for example 26 kN. The total stroke here is, for example, 40 mm. It would now be desirable to have a pressing tongs of the type mentioned which can be operated with a simpler and less expensive tong drive device. The required high quality of the press connection should be guaranteed. Nevertheless, the pressing tongs should not be more complex to manufacture and, as before, easy to use.
According to the invention, a generic pressing tongs is proposed, which is characterized in that the contact surfaces of the pressing levers are arcuate in such a way that the clamping force of the jaws remains essentially constant or increases as the rollers advance.
The pressing tongs according to the invention are just as easy to manufacture and operate as the previously known pressing tongs. A known commercially available pliers drive device can be used as the drive. However, a pliers drive device is also suitable, which has a lower driving force than previously customary. In the pressing tongs according to the invention, a significantly higher clamping force is achieved at the end of the pressing compared to the known pressing tongs with the same driving force. For example, this clamping force is increased from 90,000 N to 120,000 N. The clamping force is constant during pressing or increases as the swivel angle becomes smaller. At the same time, this means that the closing speed is constant or decreases as the closing angle decreases.
In contrast to the known crimping pliers, the clamping force is much higher with a small closing angle, which is decisive for the quality of the crimp connection. When using a tong drive device with the usual comparatively high driving force, a press connection with a higher quality can be achieved. Further advantages result from the dependent patent claims, the following description and the drawing.
An embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawings. Show it:
1 is a partially sectioned perspective view of a pressing tongs according to the invention and part of a tongs drive device,
2 shows a further view of the pressing tongs according to the invention and a part of the tongs drive device, as well as a pressing connection in cross section, and
3a and 3b geometrical representations of the closing speed and the clamping force in the clamping pliers according to the invention (Fig. 3a) and a previously known clamping pliers (Fig. 3b).
The pressing tongs 1 shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 have two pressing levers 3 which are pivotably supported on two parallel bearing plates 4. The press levers 3 can each be pivoted about a pivot axis 5 from a dash-dotted position shown in FIG. 2 into a position shown with solid lines. Here, clamping jaws 3a arranged on the front side are moved toward one another, while spreading arms 3b to be applied to a tong drive device 2 are moved apart. The jaws 3a each have semicircular pressing surfaces 7 into which beads 7a are incorporated. In the position of the press levers 3 shown in FIG. 1, these surfaces 7 form an opening 6 which determine the outside of a pressed pipe 15. This outside 15a is, for example, polygonal according to FIG. 2.
Corresponding ribs are worked into the composite pipe 15 to be pressed through the beads 7a. The pipe 15, which is plastically deformed during pressing, adapts to the outside of a fitting 16. The outside of the fitting 16 is generally uneven and has, for example, circumferential depressions or elevations, as is shown in EP-B 0 390 740.
In order to pivot the pressing lever 3, the pressing tongs 1 are fastened to a housing 9 of the tongs drive device 2. For this purpose, a bolt 8 is used, which passes through openings 8a and 4a of the housing 9 and the bearing plates 4, respectively. In the housing 9 there is a piston 13 which is sealed to the outside with a seal 14 and which can be moved in the direction of the arrow 18 with a constant driving force. A bearing frame 12 is fastened to the front of the piston 13 by means of a bolt 18. On this frame 12, two identical rollers 10 are each freely rotatable about an axis 11. When the press lever 3 is pivoted, the rollers 10 run on contact surfaces 3c, which are arranged on the inside on the swivel arms 3b and which are curved in a convex shape, as shown in particular in FIG. 2. The contact surfaces 3c are mirror-symmetrical to one another and have the same course.
In Fig. 2, the beginning of this contact surface 3c and B the end of this surface is designated.
The pressing process is briefly explained below with reference to FIG. 2. The press lever 3 are first brought against the retroactive force of a spring 17 by hand from the position drawn with drawn lines in the dot-dash position. The pressing tongs 1 can now be attached to the connection to be pressed, the open jaws 3a being arranged on the side of the pipe 15 to be pressed, as shown in FIG. 2. Now the tong drive device 2 is switched on, whereupon the rollers 10 move in the direction of arrow 20 against the tong 1 with constant driving force. After a short stroke, the rollers 10 each run onto the press lever 3 at point A. The rollers 10 exert lateral forces acting on the press levers 3 in the direction of the arrows 19, by means of which the levers 3 are spread and thereby a closing angle beta is reduced.
With increasing feed of the rollers 10, they run down to the position B on the contact surfaces 3c. It is now essential that the closing speed, that is to say the change in the closing angle beta per unit of time, becomes smaller or at most remains constant with increasing feed due to the arcuate configuration of the contact surfaces 3c. Such a suitable course of the closing speed is shown in FIG. 3a. The clamping force of the jaws 3a increases sharply with increasing stroke of the piston 13, as also shown in FIG. 3a. The clamping force of the jaws 3a is therefore greatest in the closed position of the pliers 1 and is, for example, 120,000 N. The arcuate design of the contact surfaces 3c is decisive for the course of the closing speed or the clamping force.
The exact geometric course of the contact surfaces 3c can be determined by tests or by calculation.
3b shows the course of the closing speed and the clamping force in a previously known pressing tongs. As can be seen, the closing speed increases approximately linearly as the closing angle decreases, while the clamping force decreases linearly, typically from 90,000 N to 40,000 N. As can be seen, in the pressing tongs according to the invention these curves preferably do not run linearly, but rather approximately as in FIG. 3a shown.
