Abstract

The mercerising lye is prepd. in a prepn. tank outside the impregnation trough for the mercerisation of piece goods. The fluid level in the impregnation trough is continuously measured and the feed of prepared hot lye is restricted to maintain the required level in the trough. The concn. and temp. of the prepared lye is continuously measured and any variations from nominal values are corrected by the addn. of lye concentrate and/or diluting water and/or heating the lye in the prepn. tank. The lye concentrate and/or the diluting water fed to the prepn. tank is heated by a heat exchanger fed by heated coolant from the cooling assembly. Cleaned used water is fed as the dilution. ADVANTAGE - The technique reduces energy costs and environmental damage in the lye prepn., with a simple and easily-operated equipment.
