BESCHREIBUNG

Bereiche des Mantels einer ersten Ausführungsform eines blas geformten Kunststoffspundfasses;
Fig. 4 den Schnitt durch einen metallverstärkten Kunststoffring.
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a method for producing a blow-molded plastic container, which is practically rotationally symmetrical about its longitudinal axis and has at least one head and / or foot ring and / or roller tires, which protrudes in the radial direction from the container shell and runs practically around the entire container shell , in which method a blow hose emerging from an extruder is inserted between the parts of an open blow mold which is at least two-part in the axial direction and squeezed off in the region of the lower and the upper end of the blow mold, whereupon at least one hollow needle is pushed through the hose wall after the blow mold has been closed and the hose is inflated by introducing compressed gas until it abuts the inner walls of the blow mold on all sides,
and a blow mold suitable for carrying out this method and a container produced by this method.
Blow-molded plastic containers and especially plastic drums have significant advantages compared to conventional metal drums, for example a lower weight, neutrality against practically all filling goods and greater economy. It is therefore understood that such containers are used in large numbers and that various methods are known for producing such containers.
A known problem in the manufacture of plastic drums is the attachment or the molding of top and bottom rings and roller tires, which mechanically stiffen the barrel jacket and protect the jacket against contact with the ground and damage caused by rolling a standing barrel or rolling a lying barrel as well as attack surfaces for gripping and transport devices.
To solve this problem, at least two fundamentally different methods and several embodiments of each of these methods are known.
In the first method, prefabricated one-piece top and bottom rings or roller tires are used, which are preferably made of the same material as the barrel jacket and can be welded to it. In a first embodiment of this method, the prefabricated rings and / or tires are placed in holders or auxiliary molds which are stored in the latter when the blow mold is closed. When the hot blow hose is inflated, it is pressed against the inner surface of the ring and / or tire and welded to it. In a second embodiment of this method, the prefabricated rings and / or tires are pushed onto the molded plastic barrel and welded to it in an additional operation.
The first embodiment has the disadvantage that the construction of the blow mold suitable for inserting the holders or auxiliary molds is relatively complex and correspondingly expensive and such multi-part molds do not have the required operational reliability. The second embodiment requires an additional work step that can only be carried out by experts and increases the production costs accordingly.
In the second method, a blow mold is used according to the teaching of US Pat. No. 3,050,773, the two mold halves of which can be separated in the radial direction are formed from at least two, but preferably three parts which can be displaced in the axial direction. When the blow mold halves are moved together around the blow hose, the mold half parts are separated from one another, so that when the hose is inflated, the barrel jacket is turned into the annular space between these molded parts.
When the mold half parts are moved together in the axial direction, the material that has been turned out is compressed to form a top and / or bottom ring and / or a rolling ring (DE-GM 7600621). A first disadvantage of this method is that a multi-part and correspondingly expensive blow mold is required for its execution, which also requires a complicated holding and moving device for the displacement of the blow mold halves and their parts in the radial or axial direction. Another disadvantage is that the radial height and the thickness of the rings or tires formed from the container wall depend on the expandability of the container material and particularly on the thickness of the container wall.
Because the container wall in the area of the squeeze seams of the blow hose (which areas run diagonally through the bottom or the head of the finished plastic barrel) is inevitably thicker than in the area of the jacket, excess material can flow into the interior of the barrel when the mold halves are pushed together, which then leads to different shrinkage stresses and even cracks. In order to remedy this disadvantage, it is also known to design the blow mold in such a way that the width or the thickness of the roller tires is increased in the area of the pinch seams (DE-PS-2 815326 or
DE-OS-2 852922). Because these measures did not have the desired success, blow molds were developed whose halves of the mold, which are displaceable in the axial direction, have concentric rings which are displaced at different speeds and by different distances (DE-PS-2 914938). Finally, yet another embodiment of this second method is known, in which the difficulties of forming a head or bottom ring in the area of the pinch seam are avoided by not spacing the head or bottom ring at the transition from the barrel jacket to the end face, but at the end face Barrel jacket is molded (DE-OS-3 024810).
The present invention was therefore based on the object of creating a production method for blow-molded plastic containers and in particular plastic drums, which only requires a blow mold which is very simple compared to the prior art described, which does not require any additional manual plastic welding and which has potential difficulties due to uneven wall thickness, in particular in the area avoids the pinch seam.
This object is achieved according to the invention in a method of the type described at the outset by using blow mold halves which have a groove-shaped recess running in the circumferential direction in the region of the at least one head and / or foot ring and / or roller tire, before the blow mold is closed the circular segment of one of the rings or tires mentioned is inserted into each recess and, when the tube is inflated, these segments are connected to the molded container jacket which lies against the mold inner walls in order to form at least one practically all-round ring or tire.
The method according to the invention only requires a blow mold with one-piece mold halves for its execution, which are easier to produce than blow molds with multi-part mold halves or mold halves with additional holders and auxiliary molds. Such blow molds are only opened and closed in one direction and can be held and moved with considerably simplified devices. The process also makes it possible to produce plastic drums with top and bottom rings and also with roller tires, the shape and dimensions of which are largely independent of the wall thickness of the barrel jacket.
The method according to the invention is described below with the aid of the figures, using a blow mold suitable for carrying out the method and exemplary embodiments of blow-molded plastic sheet drums. Show it:
1 shows the schematically drawn partial section through the upper half of a blow mold for carrying out the method according to the invention;
Fig. 2 shows the section through the head part and the neighboring
Areas of the jacket of a first embodiment of a blow-molded plastic sheet drum;
Fig. 3 shows the section corresponding to FIG. 2 through a second
Embodiment of a blow molded plastic bung, and
Fig. 4 shows the section through a metal-reinforced plastic ring.
Fig. 1 shows schematically and in section the upper part of a blow mold half 10 with an attached slide 11. The inner wall 12 of the blow mold half is bulged and has along the upper edge adjacent to the slide a first arcuate recess 13 in the plane transverse to the longitudinal axis and at a distance from this a second, parallel, also circular arc-shaped recess 14. The first recess contains (seen in the axial direction) an average two-part profile with an inclined to the axial direction, approximately semi-elliptical and an axially parallel straight part 16 and 17. The second recess contains a rectangular profile 19, the axially parallel base line in the Has a further rectangular recess 21 in the middle.
The inner wall 22 of the slide is bulged in a barrel shape, and the outer edge of this curvature delimits a part of the semi-elliptical profile 16 of the first recess.
Although only the upper part of a blow mold half is shown in FIG. 1 for the sake of simplicity, it goes without saying that the lower part and the other blow mold half are each mirror images of the part shown. 1, the illustration of the holding and moving devices for the mold halves and the associated slides, which are of no importance for the present invention, has been intentionally omitted.
FIG. 2 shows the section through the upper part of a blow-molded plastic bung 30. At the upper end of the barrel casing 31, where it merges with the barrel head 32, a head ring 33 is arranged. The profile of the radially outer surface of this ring is approximately complementary to the profile of the first recess in the blow mold described above. The radially inner surface of the ring contains a lower cone 34, which is widened from the inside to the bottom, the angle of which corresponds to the adjacent outer wall of the barrel casing. The upper part of the ring has the approximately semi-elliptical profile inclined to the barrel axis, the inner surface 36 of which merges into a rolling edge 37. The rolling edge protrudes in the axial direction over the highest bulge 38 of the barrel head.
At a distance from the barrel head, a roller tire 39 is arranged on the outer surface of the barrel shell, the profile of which corresponds to that of the second recess in the blow mold described above.
The head ring and the roller tire are made of the same plastic as the barrel jacket, and both are connected to the barrel jacket by means of a plastic weld.
The section shown in FIG. 2 runs along the pinch seam 41 of the blow-molded plastic barrel and also shows two bung holes 42, 43 which are incorporated into the barrel head and along the pinch seam during the shaping of the barrel.
3 shows the section through the head part 50 and the adjacent part 51 of the casing of another embodiment of a blow-molded plastic bung 52. In this embodiment, the barrel jacket is also bulged in a barrel shape, while the barrel head has a wide outer edge 53 which runs practically transverse to the barrel axis and forms an annular surface, and a central surface 54 drawn into the interior of the barrel opposite this edge. Two bung holes 56, 57 are incorporated into the central surface. the upper edge of which is behind the plane of the outer edge 53. At the transition of the barrel jacket into the barrel head, a head ring 58 is arranged, the outer surface of which, in section, is approximately circular-arc-shaped to roll an upside-down on the floor
Barrel is provided.
At a distance from the top ring, a roller tire 59 is arranged on the barrel jacket. The roller tire has a rolling surface 61 and a groove 62 on its side facing the barrel head, which is provided for engaging a known forceps-shaped lifting or transporting device.
4 shows the section through a barrel jacket 70 in the region of a roller tire 71. The roller tire has an approximately double-T profile in cross section, the radially inner crossbar 72 of which rests on the outer surface of the barrel jacket and is welded to it. A dovetail-shaped ring 73, which is anchored in the barrel jacket, protrudes from this inner crossbar. The two inner surfaces 76, 77 of the outer transverse beam 74 opposite the inner transverse beam extend in a funnel shape from the outside in order to enable the engagement of a pincer-shaped lifting or transport device. The roller tire consists of a plastic that can be welded to the barrel jacket and contains a T-shaped metal core 78 provided for increasing the strength.
When carrying out the method according to the invention, the arcuate segments of the top and bottom rings and / or roller tires are first inserted into the recesses provided in the mold halves when the blow mold is open.
A plastic tube is then extruded from the extruder arranged above the blow mold and is squeezed off in the region of its lower and upper ends before the blow mold is closed. At least one hollow needle is then inserted into the hot blow hose enclosed in the blow mold, through which compressed air is pressed into the squeezed blow hose. The blow hose is expanded until it rests on the inner walls of the blow mold and on the inner surfaces of the ring and / or tire segments.
With the right choice of material for the blow hose and the segments, preferably high-molecular low-pressure polyethylene, and a suitable blow temperature of, for example, 180 0C and a blow pressure of about 5 bar, a permanent plastic welding between the blow hose and the adjacent segments then occurs. The cooling and shaping of the blow-molded container practically does not differ from the corresponding operations in plastic blow molding technology, which is why their description is omitted.
As already mentioned, high molecular weight, low-pressure polyethylene is a preferred material for carrying out the process according to the invention. It goes without saying that the choice of the most suitable material is determined by the intended use of the container, the properties and in particular the workability of this material, as well as its availability and price, and is within the range of expert knowledge. It is also understood that an alloyed or cross-linkable thermoplastic may be used in place of a thermoplastic, if that is advantageous.
The described method according to the invention and the device used for its implementation can be modified in many ways and adapted to predetermined conditions. For example, the head and foot rings and the roller tires can have different cross sections than those shown. It is also possible and can even be advantageous to have head and foot rings and roller tires made of pure plastic, i.e. H. without using the metal reinforcement shown in FIG. 4. The recesses in the blow mold halves can have cross sections other than those shown and can be shifted in the longitudinal direction of the container compared to the examples shown.
The recesses can have one or more leaf springs for better holding of the inserted ring and tire segments, which protrude from one of the radial (upper or lower in the figures) walls and press the inserted segment against the opposite wall. Furthermore, blow molds with several recesses offset in the longitudinal direction and possibly also different profiles and associated blind segments made of a plastic can be used to produce such containers, which have the same shape but a different arrangement of head and foot rings and / or roller tires neutral material with which unused recesses are closed.
It is also possible to design the shape of the head and foot rings in such a way that when containers are stacked on top of one another, the foot ring of the upper one is guided by the head ring of the lower one in order to prevent displacement or to widen the head ring so that it is secure Forms a bearing surface for a container placed on it.
If the rings or tires have an impermissible gap at the joints of the segments, this can be welded afterwards. If different materials are used for the container and the rings or tires, the described plastic welding between the container jacket and the ring or tires can be replaced or reinforced by a hot melt bond. Finally, it is also possible to manufacture the barrel jacket and the rings and / or tires from differently colored material and to use these colors or color combinations as an indication of the barrel content or its origin.
