DESCRIPTION

The present invention relates to new cosmetic compositions intended for the treatment of the hair, in particular to ensure its maintenance, but also to improve its conservation, and make it more attractive.

These new compositions are characterized by the simultaneous presence on the one hand of an acrylic resin, and preferably resulting from the copolymerization of acrylic acid with the allyl ether of sucrose, and on the other hand of an alkaline neutralizing agent for this resin, thereby causing it to gel, while retaining its transparency.

It should be noted that for a long time we have tried to offer gels of various origins to beautify and maintain the hair. However, none of these gels has ever been completely satisfactory, because either they left the hair sticky or oily, or they were absorbed by creating dust in the hair difficult to remove.

On the contrary, for the first time, the compositions defined above have the advantage of working without sticking or greasing the hair and without leaving dust there.

The implementation of the invention can be conceived of in various ways, according to the use which must be made of the composition.

According to a first embodiment, the composition aims inter alia to maintain the hair, while leaving it flexible and fluid, and in this case the composition may contain a humectant, preferably chosen from alcohols, such as in particular polyols.

According to a second embodiment, the purpose of the composition is inter alia to fix the hair, to a greater or lesser degree of rigidity, and it additionally comprises for this purpose another synthetic resin, preferably a polymer or copolymer of the vinylpyrrolidone.

In all cases, the composition contains, in addition, agents ensuring preservation and making it more attractive to the consumer, such as dyes, perfumes, pigments, glitter and the like.

The resin which, with its neutralizing agent, represents the essential constituent of the compositions according to the invention, and more especially the product of copolymerization (or of crosslinking) of acrylic acid with the allyl ether of sucrose, is present in these compositions at a rate of about 0.1 to 2%. One can for example use for this purpose the product sold under the brand CARBO-MER 940 or CARBOPOL 940 by the firm Goodrich (USA).

As neutralizing agent for this resin, and therefore also representing an essential constituent of the compositions according to the invention, one can use practically any mineral alkaline compound, such as Na OH, IC OH, NH4OH, borax, and the like, or organic, such as amines, simple or substituted, for example mono-, di- and tri-ethanolamine, isopropylamine, ethylhexyl-amine, triethylenamine, triamylamine, and the like. is present in these compositions in an amount sufficient to neutralize the resin, 'partially or totally or even in slight excess, namely from 0.1 to 3%.

To prepare the compositions according to the invention, an aqueous suspension of the resin is prepared separately, on the one hand, to which a preservative should be added, which must of course be compatible with the other constituents and, on the other hand hand, an aqueous solution of the neutralizing agent with the other additional agents. The simple mixing of the suspension with the solution causes the instantaneous formation of the gel which is immediately usable.

In the second embodiment of the invention, the composition contains a certain proportion of a second resin of the polyvinylpyrrolidone type, playing the role of fixing agent. In this case, the nature and the proportion of this agent will be proportional to the degree of rigidity which it is desired to impart to the hairstyle. The proportion should not, however, exceed around 20%. As polyvinylpyrrolidone copolymers, it is possible, for example, to use copolymers with dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate sold under the brands AGENT AT-858, AGENT AT-937 and COPOLY-MER 845 by GAF Corp. (USA). Thus, for example, approximately 3% of polyvinylpyrrolidone added to a gel as obtained as indicated above lead to a composition which, in addition to the proper effects of the gel on the hair and those of the resin, guarantee the fixing of the hairstyle. , fixation which can be light or very accentuated according to the nature and the dose of fixing agent used.

Finally, as indicated above, additional agents may also be added to the compositions according to the invention, either to ensure its stability and preservation, for example sequestering compounds for calcium such as the sodium salt of ethylene acid. diamine-tetra-acetic (EDTA), sold in particular under the brand TRILON B, either to make them more attractive, for example by suitable dyes or perfumes.

The following examples, given by way of illustration and without any limiting character, refer to three typical embodiments of the compositions according to the invention:

Example 1: Non-fixing composition

The constituents of this composition are as follows (in% by weight).

The rest (100% complement) of the composition consists of the water used in the preparation, as indicated above.

It should be noted that the hydrogenated and polyoxyethylene castor oil used as a solubilizing agent for the perfume also contributes to the pleasant texture of the composition.

This composition does not play a fixing role, but has an embellishing and softening effect on the hair which it contributes to the maintenance.

The other two compositions, on the other hand, fix the hair as it dries.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the examples of precise compositions and constituents of these compositions listed above, in particular with regard to the products identified by their trade marks and the additional agents, and any constituent equivalent to the one or the other will fall within the scope of the invention.
