Abstract

1,146,155. Hair lacquers. MITSUBISHI RAYON CO. Ltd. and GOO CHEMICAL INDUSTRY CO. Ltd. 21 March, 1966 [26 March, 1965], No. 12291/66. Heading A5B. [Also in Divisions C3 and C4] A hair lacquer composition comprises (A) a resinous composition composed of a copolymer of (1) 5 to 40% by weight of an ester of a C 8 to C 18 -aliphatic alcohol and acrylic or methacrylic acid, (2) 6 to 35% of acrylic or methacrylic acid, and (3) 25 to 89 % of a monomer of formula wherein X is a hydrogen atom or methyl group and Y is a C 2 to C 5 -acyloxy or alkoxycarbonyl group, an amide group or a phenyl group, said copolymer having been neutralised or partially neutralised with a watersoluble base added to the copolymer in an amount of at least 60 mol per cent of the carboxyl group content of the copolymer, said resinous composition being in solution in (B) water and/or a water-soluble organic solvent. The composition may also contain lanolin and/or a perfume, or a spraying agent e.g. a halogenated hydrocarbon or liquefied petroleum gas may be added to form an aerosol composition. In these embodiments, Y may also be a nitrile group. Specified monomers (1) are 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and methacrylate and dodecyl acrylate and methacrylate. Monomer (3) is e.g. styrene, vinyl toluene, nbutylacrylate, ethylacrylate or methacrylate, or vinylacetate. In Example 1, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, ethylacrylate and styrene are copolymerised in ethanol and KOH is added to the solution formed before it is mixed with lanolin, perfume, trichloromonofluoromethane and dichloromonofluoromethane. A copolymer of dodecyl methacrylate, dodecyl acrylate acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, n-butyl acrylate and ethyl methacrylate is formed in Example 2 in solution in ethanol/isopropanol. The solution is neutralised with KOH and morpholine and polyethylene glycol, perfume and liquefied petroleum gas are added.
