Fig. 2 einen schematisch dargestellten Querschnitt des Beschichtungsbalkens,

The present invention relates to a device for directly or according to the transfer printing surface coating of a substrate, in which a flowable plastic mass by means of a perforated cylinder arranged within a coating bar rotating in synchronism with the speed of travel of the moving substrate, onto the gap wall facing the cylinder either is applied between the cylinder and a counter roller assigned to it or else a substrate guided around a transfer roller assigned to this counter roller.
With such devices, it is possible to coat surfaces with a relatively large freedom of movement.
The invention represents a further development of such devices with which the possible uses for the application of flowable melt masses of practically any kind can be realized. It is therefore an object of the present invention to expand the possible uses of the device of the type described in the introduction and to enable the application of the melt masses in a simple and reliable manner.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that both the coating bar and the perforated belt or the perforated cylinder are assigned elements for supplying heat and the counter-roller which, in the case of direct coating, is used to support the substrate, and in the case of indirect coating Transport of the coating cooperates with the cylinder, is coated on the circumference with a plastic.
The invention is shown in the drawing in one embodiment and described below. Show it:
1 is a schematic representation of a device for applying flowable plastic compositions to a substrate, both the direct and the indirect application being shown,
2 shows a schematically illustrated cross section of the coating bar,
Fig. 3 is a side view of the coating bar with the lateral seal of the gap nozzle on the underside of the coating bar and
Fig. 4 is a side view of the coating bar with an edge cover of the gap nozzle.
The device shown in FIG. 1 has a perforated metal cylinder 1 which rotates in the direction of the arrow 2. Inside the perforated metal cylinder 1 there is a coating bar (3) which extends through the perforated metal cylinder and which is adjustable in height and supported on the machine frame (not shown). A counter roller 4 interacts with the perforated metal cylinder 1 and rotates in the direction of the arrow 5. A gap 6 between the perforated metal cylinder 1 and the counter roller (4) can be set with the counter roller 4. When applied directly, a band-shaped substrate 7 is guided through the gap 6 at a speed which practically corresponds to the peripheral speed of the perforated metal cylinder and the counter roller 4.
The flowable plastic mass to be applied to the substrate, e.g. B. an adhesive is pressed with the coating bar 3 through the perforated metal cylinder 1 and applied to the underlying substrate.
In the case of indirect application, the flowable plastic mass is transferred from the coating bar 3 through the perforated metal cylinder 1 to the counter roller 4, from which it is taken over by a strip-shaped substrate 8. The substrate 8 is brought here via a takeover roller 9, with which the gap to the counter roller 4 can be adjusted, so that, depending on the type of coating, a more or less great pressure can be exerted on the substrate with the coating. Depending on requirements, the substrate 7 and 8 can be preheated. The same goes for
also for the counter roller 4 and the takeover roller 9, which can be both heated or cooled.
Regardless of whether the plastic materials are applied directly or indirectly to the substrate, it is necessary to keep the perforated metal cylinder 1 and the coating bar 3 in a thermally influenced space. For this purpose, the perforated metal cylinder in the apex area is covered by a hood 10, which forms a space 11 between the perforated metal cylinder 1 and the hood wall, which can extend over half of the circumference of the cylinder 1 as required. Over the apex of the cylinder 1, the hood 11 forms a dome 12, at which a hot air connection 13 opens, through which hot air is introduced for heating the perforated metal cylinder 1. The amount of hot air and its temperature can be adjusted depending on the mass to be processed.
At the outlet side of the cylinder 1 and the counter roller 4, an expanding outlet gap 14 forms, into which a nozzle for the hot air supply indicated by arrow 16 opens. The mouth of the nozzle 15 lies between the substrate 7 and the circumference of the cylinder 1 when directly applied and between the two circumferential surfaces of the cylinder 1 and the counter roller 4 when indirectly applied. The nozzle 15 is intended to provide a sharply focused beam against the direction of movement of the cylinder 1 and the roller 4 or the substrate 7 are directed along the axial extent of the perforated metal cylinder 1.
2 shows a section through the coating bar 3 on an enlarged scale. The coating bar 3 serves for the uniform distribution and conditioning of the flowable plastic mass into a gap nozzle 17 arranged on the underside of the coating bar 3, which is formed by sealing lips 18 extending over the bar length. The coating bar 3 has a cavity inside, which is composed of a feed channel 19, a guide channel 20 and an orifice chamber 21. The guide channel 20 connects the feed channel 19 to the orifice chamber 21 and consists of a narrow slot which partially extends over the length of the bar or of adjacent channels which are separate from one another.
Only the mouth chamber 21 extends over the entire length of the beam and must therefore be sealed on the end face, as will be explained in connection with FIG. 3. The feed channel 19 also does not extend over the entire length of the bar. The flow of the flowable plastic mass takes place at various points, not shown, for. B. on both ends and / or on the top of the bar 3rd
So that the thermal conditions can be kept constant, the coating bar 3 with a heat source, for. B. in the form of extending over the bar length heating rods 22, equipped. The heating rods 22 are, see FIG. 2, inserted in niches 23 in the side walls of the coating bar 3 and covered by plates 24.
The orifice chamber 21 is relatively small in cross section so that the flowable mass flows directly into the gap 25 formed by the sealing lips 18 and cannot at least partially deposit in the orifice chamber 21. The sealing lips 18 are designed as lamellae made of steel or a heat-resistant plastic, which extend over the entire length of the orifice chamber 21 and form the lateral end of the orifice chamber 21 and the gap 25. The sealing lips 18 are fastened to the coating bar 3 by holding plates 26 at a small angle to the inner circumference of the cylinder 1.
The coating bar 3 is shown in FIG. 2 as a one-piece body, but it can also be divided in the middle or at another location for easier production. It is essential that the coating bar 3 is sufficiently rigid and the perforated metal cylinder 1 is so large that two or more supply lines can be accommodated.
An end face of the coating bar 3 is shown in FIG. 3. In the area of the mouth chamber shown in dashed lines, a closing plate 27 made of a heat-resistant, flexible material, for. As silicone, attached, which abuts the inside of the perforated metal cylinder 1. Because the plate 27 is made of a somewhat flexible material, the height of the coating bar 3, which can be adjusted, can be pressed somewhat against the cylinder 1, so that the mouth chamber 21 is properly sealed by the two sealing lips 18 and the two arranged on one end face each Plates 27 is reached. The slats originally used as sealing lips 18 are bent at their gap-side ends, so that in this area the slats run almost parallel to the inner circumference of the cylinder 1.
Substrates of various bandwidths are coated on the described device. In order not to have to change the coating bar 3 every time the substrate width is changed, the gap 25 according to FIG. 4 can be adapted to the substrate width by cover slats 28 which are fastened to a holder 29 which is supported on the coating bar 3 in a manner not shown.
The adaptation to different substrate widths can take place either by replacing the cover slats 28 or by correspondingly adapted slats. The holder 29 can also be designed to be displaceable with respect to the coating bar 3.
In the case of direct application, a particularly simple adaptation to the substrate width is that the counter-roller 4, which has a plastic coating 30 on its circumference, e.g. B. made of PTFE, is not heated. In this case, when applying the mass, it is only applied in the region of the width of the substrate 7, while on the unheated layer outside the width of the substrate 7 the applied mass does not adhere to the roller surface. This surprising finding shows that the thermal climate in the area of the gap nozzle 17 is of considerable importance.
Only now can coatings be carried out that have not previously been achieved with flowable materials. In particular, ideal point coatings can be carried out, the points of which are applied uniformly and exactly in accordance with the perforations of the cylinder 1. If the perforation of the cylinder 1 is made narrower than for the usual spot coating, e.g. B. 80-180 mesh, a coherent and uniform film can be applied to the substrate. Coatings of just 12 g / m2 can be achieved. With low-viscosity coating compositions, significantly lower coating weights per m2 substrate area can be achieved.
The flowable mass is transported in the coating bar 3 by a conveyor system in which an overpressure relative to the atmosphere is maintained. The coating weight applied to the substrate can be controlled very precisely, e.g. B. by adjusting the delivery rate of the feed pump or by the substrate speed, wherein the constancy of the set values is achieved by the exactly maintained temperature conditions in the heating room of the perforated cylinder 1.
