Die Erfindung betrifft eine Maschine zum Umlegen von Schutzumschlägen um Bücher, bei denen die Bücher jeweils einem Umschlag zugeführt und anschliessend während der weiteren gemeinsamen Längsvorschubbewegung die Umschlagklappen um die Buchdeckel gefaltet werden. Zum Umlegen von Schutzumschlägen um Bücher sind Maschinen gemäss DE-PS 1 103 294 bekannt, bei denen als Buchfördereinrichtung eine endlose Gliederkette verwendet wird, deren einzelne Glieder in der Längsachse zur Aufnahme der nach unten weisenden Buchrücken muldenförmige Vertiefungen aufweisen. Diese Vertiefungen dienen in erster Linie dem axialen Ausrichten der Bücher, unabhängig von der Dicke, zu den Schutzumschlägen. Besonders relevant wird dieses Problem, wenn die Schutzumschlagumlegemaschine direkt mit einer vorgeschalteten Buchfertigungsstrasse verkettet wird, da in diesem Fall die Klebstoffe im Rücken der Bücher noch nicht restlos abgebunden haben und dadurch nur eine sehr geringe Formstabilität vorhanden ist. Danach werden die Bücher vom Sattelblech abgestreift und auf den Deckelvorderkanten der Buchauslage zugeführt.
