Ainsi, I'em-

CLAIMS
1. Boat provided with a propeller unit with an electric motor, and with a solar energy collector, characterized in that its displacement of water is sufficient to enable it to transport at least one person, in that the sensor consists of a panel of photovoltaic effect cells arranged on the boat, the panel and the powertrain being connected to an accumulator, and in that the powertrain is arranged so as to operate with optimum efficiency at a speed of the order of a few kilometers / hour.
2. Boat according to claim 1, characterized in that the panel is arranged horizontally.
3. A boat according to claim 2, characterized in that the panel is supported by pillars and forms a roof which extends above the boat.
4. Boat according to claim 1, characterized in that the cells of the panel are of the type with a layer of semiconductor elements.
5. Boat according to claim 1, whose weight of the hull is of the order of 80 kg, characterized in that the propeller unit with propeller and electric motor is arranged so as to provide, at normal speed, a thrust from 10 to 20 kg.
We have been looking for a long time to make vehicles running on solar energy. However, until now, such achievements have gone beyond the realm of possibility. We already knew for example small boats, built in the dimensions of a toy, equipped with an electric micromotor driving a small propeller and whose motor could be supplied with electric energy from a solar cell of the photovoltaic type. We know, however, that if such an embodiment is possible in dimensions in which the hull of the boat reaches approximately 20 cm in length, this does not mean that by increasing the dimensions we can obtain a boat capable of transporting at least one person and operating on the same principle.
Indeed, with the increase in dimensions, the displacement of water increases as the cube of dimensions and, consequently, the thrust necessary to move the boat increases in the same ratio, while the surface of energy capture solar increases only with the square of dimensions.
The present invention follows from a finding which has not been obvious until now, namely that, by using elements currently available on the market and by choosing them judiciously, it was possible to produce a boat capable of being used for transport people and, at the same time, able to get its propulsion energy from a solar cell panel installed on the boat itself.
To this end, the subject of the present invention is a boat provided with a propeller unit with an electric motor, and with a solar energy sensor, characterized in that its displacement of water is sufficient to enable it to transport at least one person, in that the sensor consists of a cell panel
photovoltaic effect disposed on the boat, the panel and the power unit being connected to an accumulator, and in that the power unit is arranged so as to operate with a
optimal performance at a speed of the order of a few kilometers /
hour.
An embodiment will be described below, by way of example.
of the subject of the invention with reference to the accompanying drawing, of which:
fig. 1 is a diagram of the electrical circuit of the boat, and
fig. 2 is a schematic elevational view of a form of exe
cution of the boat.
In fig. 1, we can see the arrangement of the various elements of the propellant unit. The propeller 1 is driven in rotation by a small electric motor 2, operating in direct current, for example at a voltage of 12 V or possibly 24 V. The current supply comes from a control unit 3 which is supplied itself from a switch-counter 4. This device is connected, on the one hand, to an accumulator 5 and, on the other hand, through a diode 6 and a regulator block 7 to a sensor panel 8.
The panel 8 is formed by a set of cells mounted on a flat light metal frame. The cells will preferably be of the photovoltaic type with a layer of semiconductors. However, it would be possible, if necessary, to replace the cells with one layer with cells with several layers with a higher yield. The purpose of regulator 7 is to provide a DC voltage at its output. It regulates the voltage taking into account the fact that, depending on the case, some of the cells can undergo certain disturbances and, consequently, temporarily supply a voltage lower than the nominal voltage for which they are built. The switch-counter 4, which is connected both to the panel 8 and to the accumulator 5, ensures the sending of a constant current to the control block 3 by reducing as much as possible the current taken from the accumulator 5 .
On the other hand, when the motor 2 is triggered, the switch-counter 4 automatically connects the panel 8 to the accumulator 5 so that any irradiation picked up by the panel 8 serves to recharge the accumulator 5. This operation is ensured as a rule general when the boat is stopped and panel 8 is exposed to the sun.
Of course, the control unit 3 is equipped with switches and a speed regulator making it possible to adjust the intensity of the current and, consequently, the power developed, by the motor 2. This speed adjustment makes it possible, if one want to push the speed of the boat to its maximum value or, on the contrary, to walk at a reduced speed in order to save the current of the accumulator and allow the panel 8 to provide a proportion of energy d 'extra as big as possible.
For example, very conclusive tests have been carried out using an electric motor with an electronic speed variator, making it possible to operate at six different speeds. This engine coupled to a fiberglass propeller provided a thrust of the order of 10 kg at an average operating speed. The motor current consumption could be changed from 3 to 15 A, the nominal voltage being 12 V.
Fig. 2 shows an elevational view of an embarkation equipped with the propellant means shown schematically in FIG. 1. We see in this figure the hull 9 of the boat which will be, for example, a light type boat in polyester. One of the boats used for the above-mentioned tests had a hull weighing 80 kg and a length of around 3.7 m. The propellant equipment, visible in fig. 2, comprises the propeller I and the motor 2 assembled in a sealed block fixed to the lower end of a shaft 10, which is arranged vertically, conducts the electrical connections to the motor, and carries at its upper end the regulator block and control 3, arranged as a separate device, allowing at the same time to orient the boat and to steer it.
In fig. 2, we also see the panel 8 and the battery 5.
The panel 8 shown in the drawing covers approximately 2/5 of the
surface of the boat and is mounted on pillars, so that it
constitutes a roof extending above the hull. Two to four
people can take place, seated, under the panel.
In other embodiments also, the means described
above could be used in a different way. So the em-
baracation could, if necessary, be a sailboat. In this case, the
panel 8 would be placed horizontally, for example at the foot of the
mast. The propellant arrangement described would replace the
rescue with which sailboats are generally fitted. It would
facilitate the operation of the sailboat, for example, when leaving the
port or when returning to port. It would also move
cer the boat at will in case of dead calm.
Tests have shown that it is possible to climb on a em
boat with the dimensions indicated above, a panel capable of providing a power of the order of 250 W when exposed to sunlight, and of propelling such a boat at a cruising speed of the order of 5 km / h by means of an electric motor whose consumption reaches approximately 500 W. However, it is also possible to provide a more powerful motor. With two 108 Ah accumulators and a motor consuming 20 A at 12 V, the boat has a range of approximately 10 h. Since the use of such a boat either as a fishing boat or as a pleasure boat is always limited to a number of hours per day which is far less than the number of hours during which the boat remains moored and immobile, the equipment described is sufficient to ensure the autonomy of the boat.
Indeed, during downtime, the sensor panel can ensure the charge of the accumulator as long as it is exposed to solar radiation. It will also be noted that the photovoltaic cells are also capable of supplying current under the influence of diffuse radiation, so that the recharging of the accumulator is carried out even in overcast weather.
