REVENDICATION

CLAIM
Brake for a spinning reel fishing reel, the action of which is adjustable by means of two manual controls, characterized in that the brake consists of a flexible strip (5) acting by friction, at adjustable pressure, on part of the periphery of the drum (4), the actuation of the braking being obtained by the displacement of a lever (8) modifying the tension of the ribbon against the drum or by the axial displacement of a pressure screw (6) bringing the ribbon against the drum, each of these manual controls being usable separately or jointly.
Tangential braking devices for the rotating drum of fishing reels are known; the adjustment and the action are obtained by a pressure screw acting in constant brake against the racing of the drum during the unwinding of the wire. Brakes of this kind cannot simultaneously assume the slight braking required to avoid the runaway spinning of the drum during a more or less lively manual pull on the line attracting out of the reel and more or less vigorous braking adjusted to the needs. fishing action.
The subject of the invention is a brake, the action of which is preset manually, this adjustment avoiding, by light and permanent braking, possible runaway of the drum or, by another manual control, is immediately adjustable in order to compensate for variable traction. on the wire and excessive unwinding out of the drum.
The claim defines the device which is the subject of the invention.
The flexible tape forming the braking member is constituted by a semi-rigid blade conforming to the periphery of the drum. At one of the ends of said blade, a screw, integral with the latter, angularly immobilizes the braking member. The micrometric displacement of the screw, radially to the drum, makes it possible to choose the position of the blade relative to the periphery of the drum. The other end of the blade is partially secured to a control lever which acts by moving the end tangentially to the drum, the winding arc of the blade around it or a part of it thus being modifiable.
By means of one or other of these controls acting on the respective ends of the blade or by joint action of the two controls, the contact pressure of the blade on the drum is determined to frictionally obtain braking during an angular displacement of said drum. This device, a particular adaptation of the classic tape brake, has the advantage of a large contact surface and a double possibility of adjusting the braking.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the brake object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view showing the situation of the brake and its controls on the reel.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the device.
Fig. 3 is a plan view.
The reel shown comprises a fixing base 1 fixed to a support 2 carrying an axis 3. On this axis, a drum 4 can rotate freely. Partially enveloping the drum concentrically, a brake consists of a flexible tape 5, held angularly relative to the axis of the drum by a screw 6 which is integral with it, the other end of the screw being engaged in a nut adjustment 7, trapped in the fixing base and in the support, but able to rotate freely to control the advancement or retreat of the screw. The ribbon retained at the other end by a control lever 8 is thus held in an arcuate position concentric with the drum. The contact pressure of the tape against the drum varies according to the position of the screw 6.
A cut 9 decreases the section of the ribbon subjected to bending by the screw at the end 10 of the ribbon so as to reduce the relative rigidity of the latter, this local increase in flexibility in the area of action of the screw allowing a finer adjustment of permanent braking. The end 11 of the ribbon is engaged under the lug 12 of the control lever 8. A movement of the lever (shown at 13) on its axis drives the ribbon tangentially to the drum, this movement bringing it to a braking contact, including the force is dependent on the position of the lever.
The user thus has two means of acting by braking on the drum: one, the nut 7, makes it possible to choose a slight constant braking, capable of preventing the drum from racing due to the speed of rotation acquired by a rapid unwinding of the wire, and the other, the lever 8, allows immediately adjustable braking, necessary to compensate in whole or in part for a particular pull on the reel wire resulting in excessive unwinding.
