Abstract

The time standard of a quartz electronic timepiece has two quartz oscillators of different predetermined temperature/frequency characteristics but the same frequency at a given temperature in the working temperature range. The oscillations used to control the time display are made substantially independent of temperature variation over the range by producing a beat frequency between the outputs of the oscillators (or frequency divided oscillations derived therefrom) and effectively adding the resultant to the output of one oscillator (or to frequency divided oscillations derived therefrom). In an embodiment, one oscillator (f1) has half the temperature coefficient of the other (f2), and adding the beat frequency (f1- f2) to the frequency of the former (f1) produces a frequency (2f1-f2) substantially compensated for temperature change. <IMAGE>
