PATENTANSPRUCH
Fig. 1 einen Querschnitt der erfindungsgemässen Vorrich tung,
Fig. 2 den Induktor im Grundriss, und

PATENT CLAIM
Device for continuous or discontinuous
Casting of metal with a ring inductor to which current-carrying rails are connected, with an electromagnetic ring shield housed in the opening of the inductor and with a ring cooler arranged on the outside of the inductor, characterized in that the at the connection point of the current-carrying rails (10) sections of the inductor (9) with a hollow cross section are partially designed as inserts (12) made of a metal having a high specific electrical resistance such that each of the inserts (12) has a length (1) which is at least three times as long like the thickness (a) of the inductor (9) and that the inserts (12) have a U-shaped cross section,
wherein its legs rest on the side wall (13) of the inductor (9) facing the molding block (7).
The present invention relates to devices for the continuous or discontinuous casting of metals, with a ring inductor to which current-carrying rails are connected, with an electromagnetic ring shield accommodated in the opening of the inductor and with a ring cooler arranged on the outside of the inductor. With the aid of such a device, iron and non-ferrous metals or their alloys can be cast by means of an electromagnetic field while forming the casting block or ingot.
From British Patent No. 1157 977 a device for continuous or discontinuous metal casting is known, which has an annular inductor acting on the molten metal by means of an electromagnetic field and forming the metal into a casting block, an electromagnetic screen and the desired distribution of the magnetic field in the axial direction contains a ring cooler which serves for the uniform supply of coolant to the surface of the casting block. The inductor mentioned represents a turn of a copper tube with a rectangular cross section. A cooling liquid is supplied to the cavity of the inductor. A current-carrying and a current-carrying rail are connected to the inductor and are insulated from one another by an intermediate layer made of a dielectric.
During the work of such an inductor, however, a weakening of the magnetic field occurs at the connection point of the current-carrying rail. The magnetic field weakening results in a distortion of the casting block shape, whereby the roundness of the casting block cross section is disturbed by the formation of bulges up to 4 mm thick along the casting block surface.
The purpose of the present invention is to avoid these difficulties.
The invention has for its object to provide a device for the continuous or discontinuous casting of metal, which enables the cast block or ingot to have a round cross section.
This object is achieved according to the invention in the device of the type mentioned at the outset, as defined in the characterizing part of the patent claim.
The presence of the inserts, the material of which has a greater specific electrical resistance than the material of the inductor, enables the electrical current to be conducted from the rails over the side wall of the inductor facing the casting block, with practically no current flowing through the inserts. As a result, the electrical current generates at the connection point of the current-carrying
Rails a uniform electromagnetic field, which acts uniformly on the molten metal over the entire circumference. As a result, there is no weakening of the magnetic field at the connection point of the current-carrying rails and the roundness of the casting block cross section is therefore not disturbed.
The dimensions of the inserts and their shape make it possible to exclude the surface defects of the casting block and the deviation of its cross section from the roundness.
The present invention is hereinafter based on a
Embodiment with reference to the accompanying
Drawings explained in more detail. It shows:
1 shows a cross section of the device according to the invention,
Fig. 2 shows the inductor in plan, and
3 shows a section along the line IIIm in FIG. 2.
The device for continuous or discontinuous Chen metal casting contains an on the base plate 1 (Fig. 1) by means of set screws 2 supported ring cooler 3 with cavities 4 and 5 for supplying a liquid coolant, z. B. of water. Each of these cavities is connected to continuous channels 6 through which the
Coolant emerges to the outside and then reaches the surface of the casting block 7 to be molded. A base (not shown) is inserted into the round opening 8 of the ring cooler 3 from below. On the inner wall of the ring cooler 3, the ring inductor 9 (Fig. 2) is attached, which consists of a copper tube with a rectangular cross section. At the inductor 9 current-carrying rails 10 are connected, between which one
Liner 11 is arranged from an electrically insulating material.
The inductor 9 is intended to generate an electromagnetic field which holds the molten metal together in such a way that the casting block crystallizes in the form of a round column.
The sections of the inductor 9 which abut the connection point of the current-carrying rails 10 on both sides are as
Inserts 12 from a high specific electrical
Resistant material, e.g. Steel, executed.
To make the inserts 12 can not only stainless
Steel, but also other materials are used, whose specific electrical resistance is 40 to 60 times as large as that of copper, from which the ring inductor 9 is made. The insert 12 has a length 1 which is at least three times the thickness a of the inductor 9.
The insert 12 (FIG. 3) has a U-shaped cross section, the legs of which lie on the solid side wall 13 of the inductor 9 facing the casting block to be molded.
The face of the insert hits the face of the rest
Walls of the inductor 9 (Fig. 2) and together with these it forms the cavities 15 in the current-carrying
Rails 10 connected annular cavities 14 through which the coolant flows.
In the round opening of the ring inductor 9, an electromagnetic ring screen 16 is accommodated at the top. The sets 12 can be located both on the outside of the inductor 9 when the inductor surrounds the casting block, and on the inside of the inductor 9 when a cavity is formed in the casting block; in any case, however, that of
Side of the cast block to be formed wall of the in ductor 9 solid and made of the same material as that of the inductor, d. H. be made of the material with a low specific electrical resistance, while a material with a high specific electrical resistance comes into question for the inserts 12. This condition also applies to the case of simultaneous casting of several blocks in a group of devices according to the invention arranged one behind the other.
The device according to the invention works as follows.
In the round opening 8 of the ring inductor 9 is from un
a pedestal was introduced. A current is fed to the inductor 9 via the current-carrying rails 10. The coolant circulates in the cavity 14 of the inductor 9 and in the cavities 15 of the rails 10. The molten metal is placed on the base from above and, under the action of the magnetic field generated by the ring inductor 9, takes the form of a column on which a solidified crust forms.
In order to increase the effectiveness of the crystallization of the casting block 7, water is supplied to its solidified side surface via the channels 6 from the cavities 4 and 5 of the ring cooler. With the progressive formation of the casting block 7, the base is lowered and the molten metal is continuously fed from above until a casting block with the desired dimensions is produced.
The following happens during the block casting process:
The electrical current supplied via the current-carrying rail 10 reaches the inner side wall 13 of the ring inductor 9, specifically without scattering at the connection point of the current-carrying rails 10. The reason for this is that. the inserts 12 have a substantially, namely 40 to 60 times higher specific resistance than that of the copper tube from which the ring inductor 9 is made. Since there is no scattering of current, the magnetic field is distributed more evenly over the circumference of the wall 13 of the inductor 9 facing the casting block to be formed. In this example, the molten metal is located in the round opening 8 of the ring inductor 9 and the electrical current is concentrated in the current-carrying inner wall 13 of the inductor 9.
If a hollow block is poured off and the metal is on the outside wall of the ring inductor, use the inductor described above, the inserts of which are located on the inside, and the current then flows over the outside wall of the inductor and generates a uniform electromagnetic field, the acts on the casting block.
A group of devices according to the invention, which are arranged one behind the other if a plurality of casting blocks are cast simultaneously, have a similar mode of operation. A corresponding number of successive and interconnected ring inductors is used for this. In order to achieve a more uniform distribution of the magnetic field over the circumference of each casting block, use the inserts described above and arrange them on both sides of the connection point of the current-carrying rails and from the respective side of the casting block.
Testing has shown that it is possible with the device according to the invention to produce ingots whose cross-sectional deviation from the roundness does not exceed 0.5 mm, while in the known devices the distortion of the round profile of the ingot was 2 to 4 mm.
The inserts are made of stainless steel and welded to the current-carrying copper bar of the ring inductor. With an inductor width of 15 mm, each insert was 50 mm long.
