Abstract

In order to produce a display which is equally suitable for operating by reflection or transmission, the display is provided with a transparent reflector (9). This transparent reflector (9) is produced by coating the rear electrode (3) and the rear row plate (4). The mixture used in this case consists of a binder (28) and aluminium pigments from 2 to 12 mu m long, the weight ratio of aluminium pigments to binder (28) being 50:1 to 20:1. The liquid crystal display produced using the method according to the invention is conceived mainly for applications in the timepiece sector and generally for measuring instruments, but is suitable wherever there is a need for a handy and flat display for daytime and night-time operation. <IMAGE>
