Abstract

In a first step, the cloth is shrunk by assymmetric compression in the longitudinal direction. Subsequently, it is advanced into a moistening zone where moisture is applied to the two sides at a rate which adds more moisture by weight to the cloth than the take-up of normal humidity, after which it is heated and dried. A dimensionally stabilised cloth is obtained. The apparatus comprises two longitudinal compression stations (13, 17), each comprising two rolls, respectively advance and retard rolls (14, 15 and 18, 19), a moistening chamber (23) where water sprays and a "Palmer" drier (28) are installed. <IMAGE>
