The subject of the present invention is an apparatus for cleaning the spindle cones of machine tools and a use thereof
It is of the utmost importance, for the precision of the machining, that the tools occupy, on the spindle of the machine tools, a perfectly determined position. The presence of impurities, or even simple dust, in the spindle cone receiving the handle of the tools, modifies the position of these tools and, consequently, compromises the precision of the machining.
Up to now, the cleaning of machine tool spindle cones has been carried out either manually, by means of a squeegee, or automatically, by injection of compressed air. These two methods do not allow a perfect cleaning of the cone, the particles adhering even slightly to it remaining generally bonded.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback by providing an apparatus which effectively cleans the spindle cones of machine tools.
This goal is achieved by the means claimed.
The invention also relates to the use of this device for cleaning the cone of the spindle of a machine tool provided with an automatic tool changer.
This use is characterized by the fact that the appliance is placed in the tool changer magazine by providing it with a tracking code of the type used for identifying the tools, and that the program is arranged of the machine so that, between certain machining operations, during tool changes, the present device is engaged, by the conveyor member of the tool changer, in the spindle cone after a tool has been extracted therefrom and before the next tool is placed there, its frame being maintained
stationary by said conveying member, while the spindle is
rotation.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment
of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a device for net
tyer spindle cones of machine tools.
Fig. 2 is an axial section of this apparatus, at a larger
ladder.
Fig. 3 is a section along line III-III of FIG. 2, and
fig. 4 is a section similar to that of FIG. 3, but in another working position of the device.
The apparatus shown comprises a fixed frame 1 on a projection 1a, in the form of a cuff, of which is engaged a part 2 in the form of a cap, fixed to the frame 1 by screws 3 and which has a flange 2a in which is formed a groove 4 for gripping the assembly to prevent it from turning, for example using the conveyor of a tool changer, as will be explained below.
The apparatus comprises three fins 5 welded to the frame by their rear end Sa, and which are arranged radially with respect to a common axis, as shown in FIG. 3, 1200 from each other.
These three fins are welded at their anterior end, at 5b, to a cylindrical end piece 6 on which is slidably mounted a cylindrical sleeve 7a terminating a hollow frustoconical body 7 whose opening angle corresponds to the opening angle machine tool spindle cones intended to receive the frustoconical handles of the tools.
A coil spring 8 is engaged on the endpiece 6 and is housed inside the sleeve 7a. This coil spring bears, on the one hand, on an external shoulder 6a of the end piece 6 and, on the other hand, on an internal shoulder 7b of the sleeve 7a to urge the latter to the left of FIG. 2, supported by its shoulder 7b against a circlip 9 engaged in a groove that has the end piece 6. The purpose of this arrangement will be explained below.
The frustoconical body 7 is pierced with three slots 10 extending along three of its generatrices, and which are arranged 1200 from one another (FIGS. 3 and 4). One of the lips, designated by 7c, of each slot 10 is provided with a metal blade 11, forming a scraper, intended to cooperate with the wall of the spindle cone to clean it.
The apparatus described and shown further comprises three rotary brushes 12, slightly conical, each mounted on a shaft 13 formed of twisted wire. Each shaft 13 carries, at its front end, a head 14 partially engaged between the end piece 6 and the sleeve 7a while its rear end is folded back to form a loop 1 3a engaged in a slot that has the front end of a barrel 15 rotatably mounted on the frame 1. Each barrel 15 is integral with a pinion 15a engaged with the internal toothing of a toothed crown 16. A cover 17 is engaged on all of the barrels 15 and prevents impurities from engage on the pinions 15a and on the ring gear 16. The latter is fixed, by screws 18, to a tubular part 19 rotatably mounted on the frame 1.
This tubular part carries, driven internally, an anti-friction hoop 20, itself engaged on the fixed frame 1. The tubular part 19 has a flange 19a in which are formed two notches 21, diametrically opposed, intended to cooperate with the lugs drive presented by the nose of the spindle of the machine on which the device is to be used.
The brushes 12 are intended to rid the scraper blades 11 of the impurities which they remove from the spindle cone.
This use, applied for example to a machine tool with automatic tool changer, will be carried out as follows:
This device, provided with an identification code identical to that of the machine tools, will be placed in the tool changer magazine. The program of this machine will be arranged so that between some of the machining operations the present device comes into operation, after a tool has been extracted from the spindle cone and before the next tool is engaged therein.
At these times, the device is gripped by the tool changer transport member, acting by means of pliers, in the groove 4 of the collar 2a of the cap 2, and is brought opposite the cone spindle in which its frustoconical body 7 is engaged.
When this frustoconical body 7 is at rest, in the position shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, in which it is held by the spring 8, the brushes 12 are located, radially, recessed with respect to the scraper blades 11. Consequently, it is these which first come into contact with the wall of the spindle cone indicated by a dashed line 22 in fig. 3 and 4, and which turns in the direction of the arrows 23.
The engagement of the device in said cone continuing, the pins of the spindle nose engage in the notches 21 of the flange 19a so that, the spindle being in rotation, said flange and the body 19, as well as the toothed crown 16 which is integral therewith, rotate. However, the clamp of the tool carrier keeps the collar 2a of the cap 2 blocked, so that the latter and the frame 1, which is integral therewith, continue to be kept stationary. The rotation of the ring gear 16 produces the drive of the barrels 15 which, themselves, drive the brushes 12, which start to rotate in the direction of the arrows 24 of FIGS. 3 and 4.
Simultaneously, the axial movement of the device relative to the spindle of the machine causes the brushes 12, axially integral with the frame, to move longitudinally relative to the frustoconical body 7, which is in support, by the scraper blades II, against the wall of the spindle cone. It follows from this relative movement between the brushes 12 and the frustoconical body 7, which takes place against the action of the return spring 8, that the brushes then come into contact with the wall of the spindle cone and with the scraper blades 11. The rotation of the brushes 12 taking place in the direction of the arrows 24 of FIGS. 3 and 4, these brushes rub on the lips 7c slots 10 which deform their bristles, which, by relaxing after crossing the lips, project the impurities against the fins 5 which thus serve as collectors of impurities.
When the apparatus is removed from the spindle cone, it is not the brushes 12, which are not perfectly clean, which remain the last in contact with the wall of the spindle cone, but, by a process reverse to that described previously , during which the brushes withdraw while the frustoconical body 7 remains stationary, applied against the spindle cone by the spring 8, these are the scraper blades 11 which, the last, leave the contact of the wall of the spindle cone, ridding it of the last impurities, in particular the last dusts, which could be there.
It should be noted that the device is traversed longitudinally by a wick 25 located at the right of the inner longitudinal edges of the fins 5, and the purpose of which is to allow them to be rid of the impurities which have accumulated there. To do this, it suffices to pull the anterior end of the wick 25 to pull it of a length corresponding to the length of the device, or at least to the length of the fins 5 of the latter. , then cut the removed, dirty part of the wick. A small receptacle containing a wick reserve can be fixed to the frame 1, on the back of the device.
Of course, the present device can also be used on machine tools that do not include an automatic tool changer. Its frame may, if necessary, have means allowing it to be held in the hand to prevent it from turning when it is engaged in the spindle cone for the purpose of cleaning the latter.
