Abstract

A layer of treatment liquid, maintained at the same level during the entire treatment, is generated above a liquid-permeable support transporting the textile material through a treatment space. Solely as a result of its gravitational force, the treatment liquid flows through this textile material and the liquid-permeable support along the entire treatment stage uniformly from the top downwards. Textile material which cannot be subjected to longitudinal tensile stress can be treated in this way. This process can be employed in an especially useful way in the washing of delicate textile material when the latter is to be exposed to the action of the washing liquor in a closely packed layered state for the purpose of lengthening the dwell time. <IMAGE>
