Abstract

The side flaps (6) are fitted at the end of their lower edge with pivots (20, 21) one of which (20) is retractable. The pivot (20) is engaged in a socket (15) mounted in a bore (24) of the column of the machine whilst the pivot (21) is engaged in an eyelet (18) mounted at the end of a removable support in the front edge of the upper face of the base (2) of the machine. By moving the flap (6), in the open position, towards the column (3) of the machine against the action of a return spring (22) of the retractable pivot (20), the pivot (21) may be withdrawn from the eyelet (18) and the flap (6) detached. Once the eyelet (18) is detached from the front edge of the upper face of the base, the edges of the overhanging part (10) of the base no longer have any rough projections capable of damaging the fabric to be sewn. <IMAGE>
