Abstract
A charango (a ten-string musical instrument of the guitar tupe originating in Bolivia and prepd. from an armadillo shell) with improved musical characteristics can be produced from glass-fibre reinforced resin, with the mould for the sound box formed from the actual shell of an armadillo, so that its scale structure can be reproduced accurately on the moulding. The shell is coated first with an anti-adhesive agent and the mould is built up on it. The sounding body is then moulded normally from glass fibre fabric and epoxy resin together with suitable pigments.Problems of distortion associated with armadillo shells are avoided.
Description
PATENTANSPRUCH I

The invention relates to a charango with a curved sound body and strings stretched over it, as well as a method for producing a charango.
The Charango is a guitar-like musical instrument from Bolivia with 10 sides, the arched body of which is made from the armor of an armadillo.
The sound body consisting of the horn armor has the disadvantage that it warps under the constant tensile force of the strings as well as under the influence of heat, making the instrument unplayable. Surprisingly, it has now been found that this deficiency can be avoided without impairing the sound properties and that a certain increase in the sound quality of the instrument can even be achieved if, according to the invention, the sound body is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic. The sound body can preferably be a faithful copy of an armadillo.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing. Show it:
Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of a Charango according to the invention in view and
FIG. 2 shows a section through a negative mold for producing the sound body of the Charangos according to FIG. 1.
To produce the plastic sound box, a negative mold is first made from a real armadillo. which reproduces the scale-like structure of the tank down to the last detail. To do this, the armor is first coated with a release agent. A fine layer of plastic, a so-called gel coat, is then applied. As soon as this has hardened slightly, it is backed with glass fabric and laminating resin and the whole thing cured.
The plastic sound body of the Charangos is then made from the negative mold formed in this way. To do this, the mold is treated with a release agent and coated with a fine layer of plastic. One or more layers of glass fabric are placed on top and impregnated with epoxy resin.
After curing, the sound body can then be removed from the negative mold. It is then preferably colored in order to be as similar as possible in color to the original.
PATENT CLAIM I
Charango with a curved sound body and strings stretched over it, characterized in that the sound body is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic.
PATENT CLAIM II
Method for producing a charango according to claim 1, characterized in that the sound body is reproduced as a true-to-original copy of an armadillo.
