L'huile essentielle de santal oriental est l'une des substances parfumantes parmi les plus anciennes qui soient. Elle est obtenue par entraînement à la vapeur du bois et des racines de Santalum album L., un arbre cultivé en particulier aux Indes et, en considération de ses propriétés olfactives particulières, tout à la fois boisées, douces, animales et balsamiques, cette huile trouve une utilisation fort appréciée dans bon nombre de compositions parfumantes. Son utilisation, par contre, en tant qu'ingrédient aromatisant n'a pas été jugée jusqu'à présent comme étant de bien grand intérêt pratique.
L'importance présentée par l'huile essentielle de santal a motivé plusieurs études, particulièrement analytiques, cela dans le but d'en permettre une reconstitution satisfaisante. C'est ainsi que l'odeur caractéristique de l'essence de santal a été traditionnellement attribuée à la présence, dans celle-ci, d'Fc- et B-santalol. La contribution olfactive de ses constituants mineurs, parmi lesquels on peut citer l'x- et le ss-santalène, I'x- et le ,B-curcumène, le san ténue, I'x-santénol, I'x-santénone et le térésantalol, n'a été jugée que comme étant très modérée.
Cependant, malgré les connaissances acquises grâce à ces travaux analytiques, il était à ce jour impossible de reconstituer fidèlement le caractère olfactif propre de l'huile essentielle, eu égard tout particulièrement à la note odoriférante de la fraction comprenant ses constituants les plus volatils.
Nous avons maintenant découvert de façon fort surprenante que cette note odoriférante pouvait être reproduite grâce à l'emploi d'une composition parfumante contenant le l-furfuryl- pyrrole, un composé phénolique, ou un mélange de composés phénoliques, et des composés sesquiterpéniques pouvant développer une odeur camphrée et/ou boisée.
Cette découverte est d'autant plus surprenante que l'odeur du l-furfurylpyrrole, à l'état pur ou sous forme d'une solution concentrée, est particulièrement désagréable, voire repoussante.
La présente invention a donc pour objet une composition parfumante destinée à améliorer, conférer ou développer la note odoriférante caractéristique de l'huile essentielle de santal, caractérisée en ce qu'elle contient, comme ingrédient actif, le l-furfurylpyr- role en combinaison avec un composé phénolique, ou un mélange de composés phénoliques, et un composé sesquiterpénique, ou un mélange de composés sesquiterpéniques, possédant une odeur camphrée et/ou boisée.
Parmi les composés phénoliques pouvant être utilisés conformément à l'invention figurent notamment le phénol, ainsi que ses dérivés ayant un ou plusieurs substituants de nature variée sur le noyau aromatique. Comme substituants préférentiels, on peut citer les radicaux alkyles et alkoxyles. C'est ainsi que, par exemple, I'eugénol, les crésols, le p-vinylphénol, le p vinylguaiacol, I'isoeugénol, le 2-méthoxy-$methylphénol, le 2,6 diméthoxy-$allylphénol, le créosol, le p-éthylguaiacol conviennent tout particulièrement en tant qu'ingrédients de la composition selon l'invention.
Parmi les composés sesquiterpéniques possédant une odeur camphrée et/ou boisée figurent notamment les composés ci-après: z-santalol, p-santalol, oc-santalal, ss-santalal, x-santalène, (3-santa- lène, épi-ss-santalène, x- et p-curcumène; Fx- et le p-santalol ainsi que l'x et le ss-santalal étant les ingrédients préférentiels.
Le rapport pondéral respectif des ingrédients de la composition parfumante de l'invention peut varier dans une gamme de valeurs assez étendue. A titre préférentiel, le l-furfurylpyrrole,
I'ingrédient phénolique et le constituant sesquiterpénique sont utilisés dans un rapport pondéral pouvant varier, par exemple, entre 5:1:1000,1:1:200 et 25:1:5000 ou 1:1:20, respectivement. Les proportions indiquées ci-dessus ne représentent pas des valeurs absolues, mais servent uniquement à montrer à titre indicatif des quantités préférentielles.
Les composés mentionnés plus haut sont des composés chimiques connus disponibles sur le marché ou pouvant être synthétisés par des procédés usuels dans l'art.

REVENDICATION
Composition parfumante destinée à améliorer, conférer ou développer la note odoriférante caractéristique de l'huile essentielle de santal, caractérisée en ce qu'elle contient, comme ingrédient actif, le l-furfurylpyrrole en combinaison avec un composé phénolique, ou un mélange de composés phénoliques, et un composé sesquiterpénique, ou un mélange de composés sesquiterpéniques, possédant une odeur camphrée et/ou boisée.
SOUS-REVENDICATIONS
1. Composition suivant la revendication, caractérisée en ce qu'on utilise un des composés phénoliques suivants: I'eugénol, le crésol, le p-vinylphénol, le p-vinylguaiacol, I'isoeugénol, le 2méthoxy-4-méthylphénol, le 2,6-diméthoxy-4-allylphénol, le créosol et le p-éthylguaiacol, ou un mélange contenant au moins deux desdits composés.
2. Composition suivant la sous-revendication 1, caractérisée en ce qu'on utilise le l-furfurylpyrrole en combinaison avec au moins un des composés phénoliques mentionnés à ladite sousrevendication 1, et au moins un des composés sesquiterpéniques suivants: a-santalal, p-santalal, a-santalol et e-santalol.
3. Composition suivant la sous-revendication 2, caractérisée en ce que le l-furfurylpyrrole, le(s) composé(s) phénolique(s) et le(s) composé(s) sesquiterpénique(s) sont présents dans un rapport pondéral respectif compris entre 1:1:20 et 5 5 :1:1000.

Thus, the characteristic smell of sandalwood oil has traditionally been attributed to the presence in it of Fc- and B-sandalol. The olfactory contribution of its minor constituents, among which we can cite x- and ss-santalene, I'x- and, B-curcumene, san ténue, I'x-santenol, I'x-santenone and teresantalol, was only found to be very moderate.
However, despite the knowledge acquired thanks to this analytical work, it was to date impossible to faithfully reconstitute the specific olfactory character of the essential oil, particularly in view of the odoriferous note of the fraction comprising its most volatile constituents.
We have now discovered, quite surprisingly, that this odoriferous note could be reproduced thanks to the use of a perfuming composition containing l-furfuryl-pyrrole, a phenolic compound, or a mixture of phenolic compounds, and sesquiterpene compounds which can develop a camphoric and / or woody odor.
This discovery is all the more surprising since the odor of l-furfurylpyrrole, in the pure state or in the form of a concentrated solution, is particularly unpleasant, even repulsive.
A subject of the present invention is therefore a perfuming composition intended to improve, confer or develop the odoriferous note characteristic of sandalwood essential oil, characterized in that it contains, as an active ingredient, l-furfurylpyrole in combination with a phenolic compound, or a mixture of phenolic compounds, and a sesquiterpene compound, or a mixture of sesquiterpene compounds, having a camphoric and / or woody odor.
Among the phenolic compounds which can be used in accordance with the invention appear in particular phenol, as well as its derivatives having one or more substituents of various nature on the aromatic nucleus. As preferred substituents, mention may be made of the alkyl and alkoxyl radicals. Thus, for example, eugenol, cresols, p-vinylphenol, p vinylguaiacol, isoeugenol, 2-methoxy- $ methylphenol, 2,6 dimethoxy- $ allylphenol, creosol, p-ethylguaiacol are very particularly suitable as ingredients of the composition according to the invention.
