Beispiel I
The invention relates to a method for offset printing by means of a pre-coated printing plate and a pre-coated printing plate for carrying out this method.
The printing plates and printing foils made of metal used in offset printing according to the prior art have a number of disadvantages. Their mechanical properties are often unsatisfactory, in particular they have little flexibility depending on the particularities of the metal used, and the ability of the plates to be bent in the printing machine often leaves something to be desired. In addition, the hydrogen brittleness of the aluminum in multi-metal plates impairs the mechanical properties. An additional disadvantage of conventional printing plates is that they can only be processed as individual pieces, which not only entails economic losses during their processing, but can also lead to a changing quality of the printed products.
The object of the present invention was to improve the unsatisfactory mechanical properties of the metallic offset printing plates produced according to the prior art and, as far as possible, to simplify the printing processes during their processing at the same time. The object is achieved in that the surface of an aluminum layer is anodically oxidized in a weakly acidic solution, that a light-sensitive layer is then applied to the oxide layer, and the aluminum layer is permanently bonded to a plastic layer on the side facing away from the copying layer by means of adhesive becomes,
that then the light-sensitive layer is exposed and developed and the aluminum layer is selectively removed at the ink-fusing points by means of an etching solution, whereby the ink-carrying adhesive layer is exposed during the printing process.
By means of such a metal-plastic composite material, the mechanical properties of the printing plate, namely tensile strength, elasticity and flexibility, are significantly improved compared to the printing plate consisting solely of metal. The invention also allows the use of different types of production-related rolled surfaces of the metals.
In addition, the invention also has economic advantages in that only a thin aluminum foil has to be pretreated and refined during the production of the printing plate, and this is only then connected to a plastic film, which allows the apparatus for pretreating the printing plates to be considerably simplified.
The present invention makes it possible to improve the mechanical properties of a conventional metal printing plate in detail as follows: On the one hand, the tensile strength, which in comparable aluminum printing plates is only 16 to 18 kp / mm2, is increased significantly by the connection with plastic. This increases the stretchability until it tears off by at least three times that of the pure metal plate. Finally, their flexibility is improved, which makes it easier to clamp the printing plate onto the printing cylinder and, in particular, manifests itself in improved bending of the plate.
According to the invention, such composite printing plates can be produced by one of the following processes.
Example I.
An aluminum foil with a layer thickness of 4 to 8 y, which is double-rolled or provided with a suitable embossing grain, is degreased using one of the usual methods, then treated with bichromate solution in the usual way and provided with a negative copying layer, which can have the following composition per 1000 ccm solution, for example :
100 g Pioloform,
20 g shellac,
40 g of a suitable diazo condensation product or a suitable oxalate compound,
500 g dimethylformamide,
300 g ethanol,
200 g ethylene glycol,
4 g Victoria blue.
On the side of the aluminum foil facing away from the copying layer, a plastic or other water-repellent material is glued on using a suitable curable synthetic resin or two-component adhesive, and the finished film is then cut to the desired format.
The printing film produced in this way can be used for exposure through a negative as well as through a slide. In the first case, after copying with a slide and developing, the surface of the film is selectively freed from the metal with a customary etching solution, thereby exposing the plastic layer used for gluing the plastic or paper layer, which now forms the later ink-carrying areas. When exposed through a negative, the exposed aluminum surface is hydrophilized after development and printed from the areas of the copier layer that have been treated accordingly.
Example 2
A double-vial aluminum foil with a layer thickness of 20 to 200 l is degreased with hot ammonium bifluoride solution and its surface is pre-grained according to the further intended use. The film is then anodically oxidized in 6% phosphoric acid at 1200 and 80 V / 0.5 to 1.0 A for three minutes. Only after this step is the film provided with a positive copying layer, which can be composed as follows per 1000 ccm of solution, for example:
100 g cresol formaldehyde resin,
20 g Pioloform,
24 g of a low molecular weight diazo compound,
2 g methyl violet,
100 g dimethylformamide,
900 g of ethanol.
On the side of the aluminum foil treated in this way facing away from the copying layer, a plastic foil is again glued by means of a suitable adhesive.
This printing plate can be exposed under a slide and then printed using the usual method.
Example 3
A double-rolled aluminum foil with a layer thickness of 50 is anodically oxidized after a suitable mechanical surface treatment in 4% oxalic acid at a voltage of 120 V and a temperature of 1600.
A copying layer is then applied to the oxidized surface, which has the following composition per 1000 ccm solution:
100 g polymethyl vinyl ether maleic anhydride,
12 g of a diazo condensation product as in Example 1,
4 g methyl violet, 5 (weighed dimethylformamide,
300 g ethylene glycol,
200 g of ethanol.
After the coating, this aluminum foil is glued to a paper or plastic film in accordance with Examples 1 and 2. It can be exposed under a slide and developed using the usual method.
The print template can be produced either by painting or tampon copper plating of the oxide layer.
Example 4
A smooth-rolled foil with a layer thickness of 50-300 microns made of an aluminum-zinc alloy is electrolytically degreased in alternating current, matt-chromated on both sides and, after drying, coated with a copying layer according to Examples 1 to 3. This film can be glued to a plastic film with a layer thickness of 50 to 500 u. With the appropriate high etching, this film can be used as a cliché plate or letterset printing form. The high etching required for this can either be carried out electrolessly in aqueous solutions of hydrochloric acid or iron III chloride with appropriate edge protection or electrolytically in a solution of aluminum chloride (AlCl3) using a tin electrode.
Multi-metal plates with their well-known advantages can be produced by this process in that the plastic film is first electrochemically coated on one side with a suitable metal layer, and then the other side of the plastic film is glued to an aluminum film in the manner shown. For this purpose it is necessary to pre-treat the plastic film using one of the following methods:
Example 5
The surface of a polyester plastic film or a film pre-saponified with cellulose triacetate is imbibed with a solution of a dimethyl sulfoxide metal complex salt (DMSO). Alternatively, the metal complex salts can also be incorporated when the film is cast.
A third variant of the method results from coating the film surface with a lacquer which in turn contains DMSO metal complex salts. The compound of SnCl2, for example, can be used as the DMSO metal complex compound. A plastic film pretreated in this way can then be sensitized with a salt of the elements palladium, silver, mercury and finally provided with an electrolytic or electroless coating of copper, chromium, nickel and cobalt.
The plastic film coated in this way can then be glued to an aluminum film of suitable layer thickness by the method described, and used as a multi-metal plate by one of the customary methods of presensitization.
Example 6
A polyester film pretreated with metal complex salts as in example 5 is provided with a stencil layer as in example 3 above and then again glued to an aluminum foil of suitable layer thickness. After exposure, the areas to be printed later are exposed by the developer, then activated with a silver nitrate solution and electrochemically coated with a metal layer, for example copper. The plate can be used after conventional treatment of the non-printing areas.
Using this technique for electrochemical coating of plastic foils, both sides of the foil can be provided with a metal layer and thus for certain purposes the adhesive bond with a metal carrier can be dispensed with.
