Geeignete Vorgemische enthalten z. B.
ungefähr 12 & Gewichtsprozent 1-Methyl-2-isopropyl-5-nitroimidazol.
Beispiel 1 -Methyl-2 -isopropyl-5-n itroimidazol Vorgemisch g/kg 1 -Methyl-2-isopropyl-5-nitroimidazol 125 Muschelschalenmehl 825 Miororcel E (Calziumsilicat) 50 Totalgewicht 1000 g

The present invention relates to the use of 1-methyl-2-isopropyl-5-nitroimidazole or a physiologically acceptable acid addition salt thereof as a constituent of growth-promoting supplementary feed when fattening pigs.
It was found that weight development and feed conversion in pigs can be improved if these animals are given the above active substance together with the feed.
This active ingredient can be added to conventional pig feed as such or in the form of a concentrate or premix. In order to promote growth and improve feed conversion, the addition can be in amounts of approximately
11 g / t to about 275 g / t, i.e. H. about 0.0011 parts to about 0.0275 parts of active ingredient per part of feed can be administered. If less than 11 g per ton of feed are used, no significant efficacy can be determined, if more than 275 g per ton are used, on the other hand, no increase in efficacy can be observed.
Preferred amounts of active ingredient are from about 55 g to about 165 g per ton of feed, i.e. about 0.0055 parts to about 0.0165 parts per 100 parts of feed. These amounts are preferred because the effectiveness per gram of active ingredient is the greatest; but, as already explained above, larger or smaller amounts of active ingredient can also be used.
It is desirable that the amounts of active ingredient added to the pig feed give young animals about 3 mg of active ingredient per pound of body weight and day and that market-ready animals receive about 1.5 mg of active ingredient per pound of body weight and day. This is e.g. achieved when the content of active ingredient in the feed is 110 g / t. These figures are of course only guidelines, which can be exceeded or fallen below depending on the size and condition of the animals.
For the purpose of promoting growth in pigs, the administration of the feed enriched with active ingredient can be started after weaning and this can be continued until it is ready for the market.
The above-mentioned active ingredient 1-methyl-2-isopropyl-5-nitroimidazole can e.g. are obtained by first nitrating 2-isopropylimidazole to give 2-isopropyl-4 (or 5) -nitromidazole. As a nitrating agent, for. B. a mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid can be used. The reaction temperature is expediently about 0 ° C. to about 100 ° C., although higher or lower temperatures are also possible.
The 2-isopropyl-4 (or 5) -nitromidazole thus obtained can now be alkylated in the usual way, e.g. by treatment with dimethyl sulfate in an inert solvent, which treatment is preferably carried out at an elevated temperature. This results in 1-methyl-2-isopropyl-5-nitroimidazole.
The enriched pig feed are conveniently obtained by adding the active ingredient described above to commercially available pig feed, which z. B.
can be done with the help of a vertical mixer. However, the active ingredient can also first be brought into the form of a concentrate or premix by e.g. is mixed with a suitable physiologically compatible carrier material. Examples of such carriers are: maize flour, soy meal, soy agnts, wheat meal, rice grits, rice bran, crumbly oats, oat feed meal, brewer's grains, malt germ, limestone, mussel shell meal, salt, clay, lime, calcium silicate, dicalcium phosphate, fish meal, pressed fish meal, condensed meat cuts Dry whey, mycelium from antibiotic fermentations, distillers solubles, molasses, dry yeast, citrus flour, etc. This concentrate or premix can then be added to the feed in the usual way.
The 5-nitroimidazole can, according to the definition, be used in the pig feeds according to the invention either as such or in the form of a physiologically acceptable acid addition salt. Acids in question are strong mineral acids, e.g. B. sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid etc.
The total concentration of active ingredient in the premix or concentrate can, for. B. 6 weight percent to about 75 weight percent. Normally enough active substance should be contained that the addition of about 25 kg to 200 kg of concentrate to one ton of commercially available pig feed results in the above stated concentrations of active substances in the pig feed. Suitable premixes contain e.g. B.
about 12% by weight 1-methyl-2-isopropyl-5-nitroimidazole.
Example 1 -Methyl-2-isopropyl-5-nitroimidazole premix g / kg 1-methyl-2-isopropyl-5-nitroimidazole 125 Clam shell meal 825 Miororcel E (calcium silicate) 50 Total weight 1000 g
The mussel shell meal is put into a conventional mixer, this is put into operation and the Microcel E is slowly mixed in. Then the 1-methyl-2-isopropyl5-nitroimidazole is also added and mixing is continued until a homogeneous mixture is present. This premix can be added to commercially available pig feed in such quantities that the final concentration of active substance z. B. 10, 25, 50, 100, 200 or 250 g per ton.
