**WARNUNG** Ende DESC Feld konnte Anfang CLMS uberlappen**.
The present invention relates to a method for determining the information contained on an information carrier, a part of which is determined in the form of a record consisting of perforations which is present as a pattern consisting of characters, figures or symbols. Information carriers of this type are described in CH-PS No. 512 800.
A major advantage of such an information recording is that perforations do not smear when handling the recording, e.g. B. printed dots that they can be read by both transmitted and reflected light, and that reading can be done both automatically and with the human eye.
Such information records can also contain further information without the need for additional surface areas.
The method according to the invention consists in that, due to the reflection and / or the absorption of light in a surface section of the information carrier containing the perforations, a further part of the information is determined.
This further part of the information can be both an information supplement applied after the perforation pattern has been applied and an integral part of the information that is present on the information carrier. In the latter case, the further part of the information can serve as a control means.
This part of the information, which results in the form of different reflection and / or absorption characteristics, can be an important aid if reading is to be carried out both automatically and by a person.
The other part of the information resulting from different reflection and / or absorption characteristics of the recording, such as certain colors of the information recording, can make sorting out much easier, especially if this is to be done by means of the human eye, but also by automatic sorting means.
In most cases, different colors are used to achieve different light absorption and / or light reflection characteristics. However, it is possible to obtain different light absorption and / or light reflection characteristics even with the same colors, e.g. when the characteristic differences only occur in the invisible sections of the light spectrum.
A further advantageous possible application of the invention arises when a device adjustable to light reflection and / or light absorption characteristics can be used, e.g. B. for all those records that do not provide any clear information if sorting is only to be carried out on the basis of the perforations.
It is also possible to use a special color for information records that are to carry special notes, such as. B. express mail or registered mail, the special color facilitating the sorting of such mail items by hand as well as automatically.
It is also possible to design certain surface sections of the information recording with different light reflection and / or absorption characteristics.
If this z. B. is applied to individual characters, figures or symbols, additional distinguishing features can be created, which significantly increases the reliability of a system in which the recording is to be sorted.
The invention can also be used when a substrate is used for placing the information record, which in turn has information-storing light reflection and / or absorption properties. For example, a strip of a certain color can be attached behind a perforation pattern which, for example, designates a postal delivery circle. If the relevant color is then determined when the perforations are scanned, the information given by the color is also read out.
The color of the strip containing the information and the color of the background can also be selected such that an optimal color contrast results. Generally known, advantageous color contrasts for the human eye are black-yellow, white-green. In many cases, the use of such color combinations facilitate both automatic reading and manual sorting.
The advantage of using substrates with certain light reflection and / or absorption characteristics is that the information given by the perforations can be easily read from a background of a certain color. It is important to know that a colored background usually experiences less change in the light reflection and / or absorption characteristics when it is dirty than a white background.
This makes it possible to achieve a lower susceptibility to errors if either the recording is dirty through the perforations or the background. The color can also contain further information.
The inventive application of the method for determining the information contained on an information carrier relates to an information carrier consisting of a set of at least two material sheets or two material webs with perforation patterns applied therein, at least one surface section of the first sheet or the first web being a light reflection and / or has light absorption which differs from that of the second sheet or the second web. However, up to ten sheets or webs of carrier material can be used, all of which contain a large number of identical perforation patterns. Therefore e.g. the first sheet or the first carrier material web only have a pattern in the form of a first number, the second sheet or the second carrier material web only have a pattern in the form of a further number and so on.
The various sheets or webs of carrier material can have different colors.
Another possibility is that, for specific purposes, perforation patterns in the form of specific letters, figures or symbols are applied to surface sections with a single color or a combination of colors.
The method according to the invention can also be applied to an information carrier consisting of a set of material sheets or material webs, each of the sheets or each of the webs having perforations in the form of a character, number or symbol pattern, in which set the light reflection and / or absorption characteristics of the material containing the perforations for different character, number or symbol patterns differ from one another.
The method according to the invention can also be applied to an information carrier consisting of a set of at least two sheets of material or two webs of material with perforation patterns applied to them, which for each sheet or
are identical for each material web, but the first sheet or the first material web has light reflection and / or absorption characteristics that differ from those of the second sheet or the second material web.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is described below with reference to the drawing. 1 shows a postcard or an envelope with a zip code bearing three figurative characters. The postcode is either printed on a single strip or made up of three adjacent strips. The strip (s) is or are attached along an edge of the postcard or envelope. The perforation patterns are in the form of figures. Each area containing a figure has a different color, which is indicated by different hatching. The colors make it easier to recognize the postcode to be displayed, with a single color or a combination of specific colors being usable for each section containing a digit of the postcode.
The colors or color combinations can also contain a (color-coded) instruction to the post office, such as: B.
Registered mail, express delivery, etc.
The uppermost sheet of material or a section of the uppermost material web is arranged as a movable flap over a glued-on section P foldable, which can be colored and thereby further information, e.g. B. can convey airmail or express mail.
The information carrier can be constructed, for example, from material webs or sheets, each of which has a specific color and contains a number of recordings which consist of a figurative perforation pattern. Depending on the code used, it is also possible to assign special colors to only certain figures, or to assign different colors to a certain figure.
The advantage of the perforations is that they are practically impossible to smear and that they are sharply delineated. They can be read with both transmitted and reflected light. Furthermore, two additional information elements result, namely the color of the perforated recording and that of the background on which the recording can be applied. This multiplies the information elements that can be applied to a certain surface and are immediately readable with the eye. The information carrier according to the invention can be processed in a very simple reading device and, thanks to the perforation, offers a high level of reliability of the information.
In particular, the method according to the invention allows a quick check whether the combination of the perforation and the color of the material web containing the perforation or the color visible through the perforation are present in a certain combination (e.g. a ONE always with a red background).
There is also the possibility of assigning certain colors to certain instructions for the post office, e.g. B. registered mail, express delivery, etc. and there is also the possibility of combining the two above-mentioned variants with each other, wherein the area p can have a color that z. B. requires the mailing of the shipment, and the surface or partial surface containing the perforation has a color that represents a z. B. is typical for the representation of a postcode color.
