The invention relates to a method for packaging roasted coffee in injection packaging containers equipped with at least one pressure relief valve.
A method is known for packing roasted and possibly ground coffee in bags equipped with pressure relief valves, in which the bags filled with coffee are evacuated and sealed within a sealed chamber. Inside the evacuated and sealed bag, the carbon dioxide slowly escaping from the roasted coffee causes the pressure to rise until the valve opens. The gas then escaping from the valve causes a certain displacement of the air remaining in the bags despite the evacuation, such that after a certain waiting time the atmosphere remaining in the bags is significantly lower in oxygen than at the time the bags were closed.
A disadvantage of this known method is at least the high level of mechanical effort required to evacuate the bags.
A method is therefore proposed for packaging roasted coffee in packaging containers provided with at least one pressure relief valve, which according to the invention is characterized by the combination of the following features: a) filling the coffee after roasting without intermediate storage of the same in the container, b) introducing it a flushing and protective gas in the bottom area of the container.
As expected, the proposed method can be carried out more cheaply, but there is also the advantage that shortly after the container has been closed, e.g. Bag, the opening pressure of the pressure relief valve has been reached and the outflow of carbon dioxide and undesired atmospheric oxygen begins. The carbon dioxide escaping from the coffee is also better used to flush out atmospheric oxygen. Thus, if the same weight amounts of oxygen are used in both methods during the closing of the containers, e.g. Bags, are contained, there is less loss of quality in the coffee in the process according to the invention.
Other containers to which the method can be applied are e.g. valved tin cans.
In a preferred embodiment, atmospheric oxygen is removed before the containers are closed by filling the bottom area of the container with carbonic acid ice or other substances that develop or release flushing and protective gas.
