The present invention relates to an igniter tube with a detonator fuse, containing a mechanism which is designed to expose a path for a pilot flame from a detonator attached in the front part of the tube to a detonator attached in the rear part of the tube within a certain time after firing.
With such igniter tubes there was the problem of securing the fuse in the igniter tube body. In order to enable the sensitive mechanism to function in the desired manner, it is important to arrange the fuse body immovable in the axial direction in the igniter tube, but avoiding the risk of the walls of the part containing the mechanism in hard contact against surrounding rigid organs get in the igniter tube, whereby parts of the mechanism can be subjected to such a pressure that they are no longer able to function.
Attempts have been made to secure the detonator fuse by means of locking screws which have been inserted through the igniter tube body. However, this has disadvantages. In view of the risk of damage to the mechanism, the screws cannot be inserted at any point, which means that the securing body must be precisely adjusted before the screws are inserted.
According to the present invention, the problem is solved in that the detonator fuse is attached in such a way that at least its front part is free from contact with the inner walls in the igniter tube, and that it is held in the axial direction by means of a ring surrounding the front part, the front edge of which is against abuts a radial surface in the igniter tube body and the rear edge of which has a radially inwardly directed flange which rests against a radial shoulder on the fuse, the height of the ring being greater than the distance from the shoulder to the front end surface of the fuse.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is described in more detail with the aid of the drawing, which shows the lower part of an executed igniter tube, partly in section along an axial plane.
In the drawing, only those parts of the igniter tube are shown which are essential for understanding the present invention. The igniter tube comprises a body 1 of conventional design, which has a recess with an internal thread in its rear end, into which a bottom sleeve 2 with a corresponding external thread is inserted. The latter has in its rear end a recess 3 in which a detonator 4, covered by a plate 5, is inserted.
The tubular body 1 and the ground sleeve 2 are designed such that they jointly delimit an inner chamber 6 into which a detonator fuse 7 is inserted. This chamber 6 is bounded on the front by a radial, flat wall 8 and is through the channels 9, 10 in the tubular body in connection with ignition devices, not shown, which come into operation when the tube hits a target, the flames through the one or the other channel to be propagated to the chamber 6. The latter is rearwardly in connection with the chamber 3 containing the detonator through a channel 11 through which a part 12 of the detonator fuse penetrates into the mentioned chamber.
In the starting position, the detonator fuse blocks the connection between the channels 9, 10 and the channel 11, so that even if for any reason the said detonator should come into operation, the detonator 4 will not be detonated. The front part 13 of the fuse, however, contains a mechanism (a clockwork) which is set up in such a way that it comes into operation when fired and opens a connection through the fuse within a predetermined time thereafter so that the detonator can be detonated when the barrel hits a target. This mechanism is known per se and does not need to be described. It is, however, worth mentioning that it is important for its function that the front wall 14 of the fuse is at a distance from the wall 8 so that no pressure is exerted on it.
Likewise, the peripheral wall 15 of the fuse must be free of contact with other parts.
It is therefore important that the capsule lock is immovable in the axial direction. On the other hand, their angular position is not important. According to the invention, the fuse 7 is held in place by a ring 16 with an L-shaped cross section, one side of which rests against the wall 8 and the other side of which is designed with an inwardly directed flange 17 which rests against a shoulder 18 on the fuse body, with the ring and the securing body are held in this position in that a radial shoulder 19 on the ground sleeve 2 when screwing the same comes to rest against a corresponding shoulder 20 on the securing body on the back of the shoulder 18 and in this way the same against the flange 17 and as a result, the ring 16 presses against the wall 8.
As can be seen, the total height of the ring 16 (between the top edge and the rear of the flange 17) is slightly greater than the height of the part 13 containing the mechanism (i.e.
the distance between the shoulder 18 and the wall 14), whereby it is achieved with certainty that the wall 14 and thus parts of the mechanism are not subjected to any pressure.
The inner diameter of the ring is in its main part substantially larger than the diameter of the wall 15 and the inner diameter of the flange 17 is also somewhat larger than the diameter of the wall 15, so that the wall 15 is not in contact with any surrounding parts.
The fuse 7 is centered in the tube in that its rear part 21 is fitted into a corresponding hole in the ground sleeve 2.
It is noteworthy that the arrangement according to the invention does not require any high precision in the manufacture and assembly of the fastening element for securing, for which reason the problem is solved at very low cost.
