Abstract
The protective ankle bandage for skiers or mountaineers to give further protection than that built into the boot, consists of a buffer layer, in or on which is included one or more stiffening portions. The stiffeners may be of plastics, leather or metal inserts, or of plastics or metal wire. The stiffeners may be across the bandage, or at an angle to the length, or may be a zig-zag form, along the bandage. In one alternative, the bandage may consist of a plain portion which is wound round first, to form a soft underlayer, followed by a reinforced portion, than a stiffener reinforced portion, followed by a plain portion to form the top layer.
Description
The invention relates to a bandage to protect the ankle cuffs, in particular against the pressure of sturdy footwear. To protect the ankle cuffs against the pressure of sturdy footwear such as ski or mountain boots, soft padding, e.g. B. used from foam rubber.
These have the disadvantage that they are completely compressed at limited pressure points, especially on the upper edges of the shoe, and offer insufficient protection.
By contrast, the bandage according to the invention distributes the pressure over a larger area and thereby reduces it much more effectively. In addition, a high level of protection is obtained even with a much smaller thickness of the bandage.
The bandage according to the invention for protecting the ankle cuffs is characterized in that it contains the following components from the inside to the outside: a) a padding layer and b) stiffening elements of elongated shape whose longitudinal direction to the longitudinal axis of the ankle cuffs is essentially parallel to steeply helical.
The stiffening elements can consist of plastic, leather or metal strips or of plastic or metal wires. When using wires, it is advantageous if they are bent in a meander shape. The reinforcing elements can be fixed on or in a flexible and / or cushioning carrier, e.g. B. glued, sewn or woven, or applied by drying from plastic solutions.
A particularly favorable pressure distribution can be achieved if the stiffening elements are arranged in such a way that layers from more flexible to more rigid elements follow one another from the inside to the outside, the more flexible layers being wider than the stiffer layers. The rigidity can be adjusted by choosing the thickness or the material of the stiffening elements.
In Fig. 1 an embodiment of the bandage according to the invention is shown in which the stiffening elements are fixed on or in a bandage. Elastic bandages are particularly suitable for this. When wrapping around the cuffs, part A of the bandage forms a cushioning pad. This is followed by part B with the more flexible stiffening strips S1 and above that part C with the stiffer strips S2. Finally, a non-stiffened part D can follow, which is used to fix the entire bandage. On part A and possibly parts B and C, a thin layer of padding can also be applied. The lengths of the individual sections should at least correspond to the circumference of the ankle cuffs.
but can also be several circumferential lengths.
In Fig. 2 the stiffening elements are arranged obliquely, so that they assume a steeply helical position when wrapping around the shackles. 3 shows a section of a bandage with a meandering wire insert, which can also be woven in as a weft thread.
In addition to the embodiments shown, the bandage can also be in the form of a cuff, which can also be built into a stocking or pants. can be applied. It is also possible to connect the protective bandage to the footwear. The connection may then only be made laterally so that the upper edges of the shoe can move against the bandage at the front and back.
