Such metal complexes are obtained, for example, by reacting chromium or cobalt releasing agents with the corresponding metallizable azo dyes in an alkaline medium. Examples of such metallizable azo dyes are coupling products from the diazo and coupling components listed below.

As a result of their good alcohol solubility, the new coloring salts are particularly suitable for coloring alcoholic solutions of film-forming polymers.
Alcoholic solutions of film-forming polymers are to be understood here in particular as those liquid lacquers which are suitable for use in printing inks for flexographic printing.
These solutions contain, for example, natural resins such as shellac or manila opal as polymers; or cellulose derivatives, for example cellulose ethers, such as ethyl cellulose or cellulose esters, such as nitrocellulose, also maleinate resins or phenol-formaldehyde resins, which are preferably modified with rosin, such as the products described in US Pat. No. 2,347,923; Polyamide resins, i.e. Polycondensation products of polyamines with polycarboxy compounds z. As described in U.S. Patent 2,663,649; also formaldehyde-urea and formaldehyde-melamine condensates, ketone-formaldehyde condensates, polyvinyl acetates or polyacrylic acid resins, e.g. B. polybutyl acrylic resin or mixtures thereof.
In addition, the alcoholic solutions can form a film
Polymeric auxiliaries still customary in the paint industry, such as wetting agents, e.g. B. higher fatty acid bis-hydroxyalkylamides, such as
Coconut oil fatty acid bis (-ss-hydroxyethyl) amide.
These alcoholic solutions of film-forming polymers with a content of color salts according to the invention are suitable, for example, for printing various types of materials, such as metal, e.g. B. aluminum foils, paper, glass, synthetic resin sheets and films and the like. They are stable in storage and result in waterproof coatings on the materials mentioned.
Numerous ammonium salts of anionic dyes are already known, none of which, however, is bonded to a primary amine group with a tert-alkyl radical with a total of 10 to 24 carbon atoms. It has been found that precisely these fibrous salts have particularly good alcohol solubility.
French patent 1,359,439 e.g. B. describes such ammonium salts of the 1: 1 chromium complexes of azo and azomethine dyes in which the amine nitrogen contains at least one aliphatic radical whose carbon chain is interrupted by oxygen. The patents relating to the ammonium salts of dyestuffs, but whose primary amine group does not contain a coherent tert-alkyl radical, include, in particular, USA patents 2,095,077, 2,555,603, 2,628,960 and 2,937,165, and German patents 703 546,740 697, 743 848 and 890 251, French Patent 1199 654, British Patent 994 979 and Japanese Patent 12915/66.
The dyes described in these patents differ from those according to the invention in that the amine group is in secondary or tertiary form or that a primary or secondary alkyl radical or an aryl radical is bonded to a primary amine group. The color salts of the present invention can also be used as electrophotographic toners.
In the examples below, the percentages are percentages by weight unless otherwise indicated.
example 1
33 g of the mono azo dye obtained by coupling diazotized 2-amino-benzoic acid to 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone are mixed with 14.7 g of chromium acetate (with 19.5% chromium content) within one hour in 150 ccm of formamide of 120-130 C. The dye goes into solution as a chromium complex. The temperature is maintained at 120-130 ° C. until the chromation has ended, which takes 1½ hours.
The formamide melt is then cooled to 80-90 ° C and then in 1000 ccm of an aqueous -sulfonic acid-alkylamides, 1-hydroxy-naphthalene-3,6-bis-sulfonic acid amide or -3,6-bis-sulfonic acid-alkylamides, 2-hydroxy-naphthalenes, e.g. 2-hydroxy-8-acetylamino-naphthalene, 2-amino-naphthalene, 1-phenyl-3-alkyl-5-hydroxy- or 5-amino-pyrazoles, 1- (halophenyl-, alkyl-phenyl- or alkylsulfonyl -phenyl) -3-alkyl- or -3-alkoxy-5-hydroxy- or -5-amino-pyrazoles, 1- (sulfamoyl-phenyl) - or 1- (N-alkylsulfamoyl-phenyl) -3-alkyl-5- hydroxy- or -5-aminopyrazoles, acetoacetyl-phenylamide, acetoacetyl-halophenylamides,
-alkyl-phenylamides or -alkylsulfonyl-phenylamides or acetoacetyl- (sulfamoyl-phenyl) -amide or acetoacetyl- (N-alkylsulfamoyl-phenyl) -amides.
(Alkyl and alkoxy here preferably have a carbon number of 1 to 6; halogen in particular denotes chlorine or bromine).
Instead of 1: 2 metal complexes of azo dyes, it is also possible to use those of azomethine dyes, for example those obtained by condensation of salicylaldehydes or 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehydes with o-aminophenols.
The products available from Rohm and Haas Co. under the trade names Primene 81-Rs and Primene JM-Ts are particularly suitable amines for the preparation of the color salts according to the invention. These represent a mixture of amines which have the formula
EMI3.1
<tb> <SEP> alkyl
<tb> <SEP> VII
<tb> AlkylEl <SEP> NH2
<tb> <SEP> alkyl
<tb>, where Primene 81-R has a total of 12 to 14 and Primene JM-T has a total of 18 to 22 carbon atoms.
The salt formation is expediently carried out in such a way that a solution or suspension of an alkali salt of the anionic dye is reacted with the aqueous solution of a water-soluble salt of the amine, preferably one with a lower fatty acid, in particular formic acid or acetic acid. It is advantageous to work at temperatures between 40 to 80 ° C. and a pH value below 7.
Since the color salts are insoluble in the aqueous reaction medium, they can be isolated by filtering off.
The new color salts have excellent alcohol solubility, especially in lower alkanols such as methanol, ethanol, n-propanol or iso-propanol, in alkylene glycol monoalkyl ethers, e.g. B. in ethylene glycol monomethyl or ethyl ether, in alkylene glycols such as propylene glycols, or in araliphatic alcohols such as benzyl alcohol, or in mixtures of such alcohols. With regard to their alcohol solubility, color salts according to the invention are superior to previously known color salts with a similar structure. They are also in lower aliphatic ketones, e.g. B. acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone or in cyclohexanone, also in carboxylic acid esters, eg. B.
Methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate or glycol monoacetate, and also in halogenated hydrocarbons, preferably lower aliphatic hydrocarbons, such as chloroform, methylene chloride, ethylene chloride or carbon tetrachloride, soluble.
Because of their good solubility in the abovementioned ketones, especially acetone, the dye salts obtainable according to the invention are suitable for dyeing cellulose-2i-acetate in the spinning mass; thanks to their good solubility in halogenated, lower aliphatic hydrocarbons, especially chloroform, they can also be used for spin dyeing of cellulose triacetate.
Solution of 11 g of Primene 81-R and 3 g of 85% formic acid entered. The metal complex dye initially precipitates as a water-insoluble amine salt in a slightly flaky form. The mixture is stirred for 1 hour at room temperature, then heated to 60 ° C., kept at 60 ° C. for 2 hours and then filtered. The filter residue is washed thoroughly with 2000 ccm of weakly formic water at 40-50 ° C., suctioned off well and dried at 80 ° C. The new colored salt is a yellow powder that dissolves very well in lower alcohols and ketones with a yellow color.
Example2
If 16 g Primene JM-T is used instead of 11 g Primene 81-R, the Primene JM-T salt of the metal complex dye, which has similar properties to the Primene 81-R salt, is obtained with the same procedure as indicated in Example 1 particularly very good solubilities in lower alcohols and ketones.
Example 3
88.9 g of the sodium salt of the 1: 2 chromium complex from the monoazo dye obtained by coupling diazotized 6-nitro-2-amino-4-tert-amyl-phenol to 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5pyrazolone, are dissolved in 200 cc of dimethylformamide at 70.degree. C. and then added dropwise to 1500 cc of an aqueous solution of 23 g of Primene 81 and 8 g of 85% formic acid. After briefly stirring the precipitate at room temperature, the reaction mixture is heated to 50-60 ° C. and kept at this temperature for about 4 hours. It is then filtered and washed with 2000 ccm 40 "C warm water which is weakly acidified with formic acid, vigorously suctioned off and dried at 80" C.
The new colored salt is a red powder that has excellent solubility in lower alcohols, ketones and aliphatic halogenated hydrocarbons.
