In some devices, it is necessary to be able to control the drive in rotation at will of one or the other of two moving parts. Thus, in tape recorders, one or the other of the two reels carrying the magnetic tape is caused to be driven in the direction chosen for driving this tape.
In known devices of this type, it is necessary to provide coupling devices for each of the two coils and means for controlling these couplings to bring them into the active position, and respectively inactive. These means are relatively complicated. and the present invention aims to provide a simple, inexpensive mechanical solution with perfect operation.
The object of the invention is a mechanical drive device with automatic coupling, characterized in that it comprises two toothed wheels engaged with one another by their oblique teeth, the axis of rotation of one of these. wheels being included in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the other wheel,
One of the wheels being fixed to a drive shaft, the other wheel being driven and movable axially, this driven wheel carrying a part of a coupling capable of entering into contact, under the effect of said displacement, with a mobile to train.
The accompanying drawing represents, schematically and by way of example. an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 and a perspective view of this embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a view thereof taken along a plane perpendicular to the axis of the motor shaft.
This device comprises a drive shaft 1, the rotation of which is ensured by a motor, not shown. Means, which are not shown either, make it possible to control the direction of rotation of this shaft 1. These means can be, very simply, included without other in a motor whose direction of rotation is determined by electrical connections. .
The shaft I carries a toothed wheel 2, the teeth of which are oblique and have an inclination of the order of 45th. This wheel 2 is engaged with a toothed wheel 3 of corresponding oblique toothing, this wheel 3 being mounted on a shaft 4 and being able to move axially. The shaft 4 also carries two pulleys 5 and 6, the movement of which can be transmitted to mechanisms, not shown, by belts 7 and 8 respectively.
Each of the pulleys 5 and 6 is integral with a flange 9, respectively 10, carrying lateral projections 11 forming part of a coupling. The toothed wheel 3 has on each of its faces projecting parts 12 forming the other part of the couplings to the two pulleys 5 and 6. It also has a groove 13 in which is engaged a pincer spring 14, the free end of which 15 is. is engaged in a helical slot 16 of a plate 17.
The shaft 4 can preferably be constituted by a fixed pivot on which the pulleys 5 and 6 rotate freely, but are fixed in their axial position. On the other hand, the toothed wheel 3 is mounted freely on this shaft both in rotation and in axial displacement.
When the shaft 1 is rotated in the direction of the arrow f, it turns the toothed wheel 3 counterclockwise, with reference to FIG. 1. As a result of the friction between the spring 14 and the groove 13, this spring tends to rotate at the same time as the wheel 3, and its free end 15 moves to the left of the helical slot 16, thus causing an axial displacement of gear 3 upwards. It should be noted that the reaction between the oblique teeth of the toothed wheels 2 and 3 also has the effect of moving the wheel 3 upwards. As a result of this displacement, the protruding parts 12 of the wheel 3 engage with the protruding parts 1 1 of the disc 9 integral with the pulley 5.
These projecting parts 11 and 12 form dogs and therefore constitute a clutch coupling between the wheel 3 and the pulley 5. It is clear that when the shaft 1 is driven in the opposite direction, that is to say in the direction of the arrow f ', the toothed wheel 3 is moved downwards with respect to the drawing and engages by clutching with the pulley 6, while its connection with the pulley 5 is interrupted.
Of course, one can provide different variant embodiments, and in particular the coupling of the toothed wheel 3 with one or the other of the pulleys 5 and 6 could be achieved not by dogs, but for example by the intermediate friction linings. One could also provide weak springs having a tendency to return the wheel 3 to its median position between the pulleys 5 and 6.
When the obliqueness of the toothing of the wheel 3 is large enough, for example when it exceeds 30, the reaction between the toothings may be sufficient to cause the axial displacement of the toothed wheel 3.
In such a case, the construction can be simplified by eliminating the groove 13, the spring 14 and the plate 17. It should be noted that one could also use a fixed spring bearing against a smooth part of the toothed wheel 3. to oppose a resistive torque to its rotation and thus increase the value of the axial component due to the reaction between the toothings of wheels 2 and 3.
