B. in Wasserreiskulturen Echinochloa sp., Elocharis sp., Panicum sp., Cyperaceen, Paspalum sp., etc.; in Trockenreiskulturen ebenfalls Echinochloa sp., Digitaria sp., Brachiaria sp., Sida sp., Cyperaceen, Acanthosperum sp., etc..
Nach dem vorstehend unter a. beschriebenen Verfahren sind noch folgende Aminonitrile der Formel II hergestellt worden: 2-Cyclopropyl-2-amino-valeronitril; Schmelzpunkt des Hydrochlorids: 107-109o 2,2-Dicyclopropyl-2-amino-acetonitril; Schmelzpunkt des Hydrochlorids: 111112o 2-[1 -Methyl-cyclopropyl]-2-amino-propionitnl Schmelzpunkt des Hydrochlorids: 102105c 2-[2"-Methyl-cyclopropyhl]-2-amino-propionitril;
2-Cyclopropyl-2-amino-isovaleronitril;
Schmelzpunkt des Hydrochlorids: 107-109

The present invention relates to a process for the production of new s-triazines and their use for combating weeds and grass weeds.
A large number of triazines have already become known as herbicidal active ingredients which, because of their pronounced herbicidal activity, can be used in a wide variety of crops for combating weeds. For example, from the series of 2 chloro-, 2-methoxy- and 2-methylthio-4,6-bis (subst.alkyl-amino) -s-triazines, several representatives are of great importance for the selective weed control in cereal, corn and feed crops obtained. Recently, triazine derivatives with cyanoalkylamino and cyclopropylamino groups have also become known (e.g.
USA patent 3 451 802, French patent 1 536 479 and Belgian patents 730 134 and 730 135), which show certain advantages with regard to effectiveness and selectivity in various crops, but do not fully satisfy with regard to selectivity in certain crops or counteract unpleasant gaps in the spectrum of activity have weeds associated with these crop plants. This is particularly the case with cereals, rice, soya, sorghum, cotton, etc. and weeds that frequently occur in these crops
It was therefore an object of the present invention to develop herbicidal active ingredients which, with better protection of various crop plants, develop a good herbicidal activity that is as complete as possible on the weed flora occurring therein.
It has now been found that substituted diamino-s-triazine derivatives of the formula I

meet these requirements. In this formula, Rl is a chlorine atom, R2 is an alkyl radical with 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl radical with 3 to 5 carbon atoms, R3 is an alkyl radical with 1 to 3 carbon atoms or the cyclopropyl radical and R4 is hydrogen or the methyl radical.
In this formula, R2 represents the methyl, ethyl, n-propyl or isopropyl radical or one of the 4 possible isomeric butyl radicals; R2 can also mean the cyclopentyl, cyclobutyl or, preferably, the cyclopropyl radical.
The new diamino-s-triazine derivatives of the formula I are prepared according to the invention by mixing cyanuric chloride in any order with an amino nitrile of the formula I.

The amino nitriles of the formula II used as starting materials and their salts are new compounds which have not yet been described in the literature. You will e.g. B. prepared by Strecker's method by adding a known alkylcyclopropyl ketone of the formula IV (French patent 1,239,959; US patent 3,122,587; Angew. Chemie 80, page 578; Bulletin Soc. in which R3 and R4 have the meanings given under formula I, treated in ether with ammonium chloride and aqueous sodium cyanide solution. When working up the ether extracts, the hydrochloride of the aminonitrile of the formula II obtained is preferably immediately precipitated by passing in HCl gas. Further methods of preparation of the aminonitriles of the formula II from ketones of the formula IV will be discussed in more detail later.
As a solvent or diluent for the reaction of the aminonitrile of the formula II or a salt. in particular the hydrochloride, with cyanuric chloride or a 2,4-dichloro-6-alkyl (or cycloalkyl) -amino-s-triazine, water.
aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbons, ethers and ethereal compounds.
Nitriles, amides, ketones, etc. and mixtures of such solvents with one another and with water, preferably toluene-water mixtures.
Both inorganic bases, such as alkali metal and alkaline earth metal hydroxides or carbonates, or tertiary amines, such as trialkylamines, pyridine and pyridine bases, can be used as acid-binding agents for these reactions. Inorganic bases, especially the alkali metal hydroxides such as NaOH, are preferred.
The reactions of the aminonitrile of the formula II with cyanuric chloride are preferably carried out in the temperature range from −30 to + 300 ° C. and, depending on the temperature chosen, take a few minutes to 10 hours. The reaction of the intermediate 2,4-dichloro-6- (1-cyclopropyl-1 cyanoalkylamino) -s-triazine with the amine of the formula R2 NH2 is carried out at temperatures from 10 to 50 ° C. and can take up to 3 days.
If you have the aminonitrile of the formula II with a dichloro substance. brings amino-s-triazine to the reaction, the reaction time is 6 minutes to 10 hours at temperatures from 0 to 40'C.
The new substituted diamino-s-triazine derivatives of the formula I have excellent herbicidal properties and are particularly suitable for combating grass-like and broad-leaved weeds in various crops. When used in high concentrations, the new compounds act as total herbicides, while in lower concentrations they act as selective herbicides. Of the active ingredients of the formula I, difficult to control and deep-rooted, annual or perennial weed species are damaged or destroyed with good success in their growth. The application of the new active ingredients can be carried out with the same good success before emergence (preemergence) and after emergence (postemergence). So can arable weeds such. B. Taraxacum sp., Chamomile species (Matricaria sp.), Destroyed or hindered in growth without causing damage to crops such as grain, maize, cotton, sorghum, soybeans, etc. Furthermore, these active ingredients in rice crops include weed species that are difficult to control: z. B. in water rice cultures Echinochloa sp., Elocharis sp., Panicum sp., Cyperaceae, Paspalum sp., Etc .; in dry rice cultures also Echinochloa sp., Digitaria sp., Brachiaria sp., Sida sp., Cyperaceae, Acanthosperum sp., etc ..
Since the active ingredients for warm-blooded animals, fish and fish food animals are non-toxic in the usual application concentrations, gradually kill the plants and thus do not affect the oxygen balance and the biological equilibrium, they are very suitable for use in paddy rice cultures. In addition, the active ingredients have a broad spectrum of activity against various types of aquatic weeds, e.g. B.
emersed plants, aquatic plants with and without floating leaves, submerged plants, algae etc.,
The broad spectrum of activity of the new substituted diamino-s-triazines of the formula I allows them to be used for the important control of weeds and grass weeds on areas surrounding travel crops, such as ditches, canal beds, dams, etc. These active ingredients not only destroy the grass weeds mentioned, which occur in rice crops, but also other grass-like and broad-leaved weeds. The active ingredients can be used in the preparation of the rice beds and, after the plants have emerged, also to destroy an already accrued weed population.
Both the rice grown in water and in dry crops does not suffer any damage from the application of the new active ingredients at the usual application rates, and largely reversible damage at high application rates. The application rates vary and depend on the time of application, they are between 0.1
10 kg of active ingredient per hectare, when applied before emergence of the plants up to 1 kg of active ingredient per hectare and after emergence of the plants with 3 to 10 kg of active ingredient per
Hectares, taking for such a total annihilation of the whole
Weed population, for example on the cultivated land adjacent fallow land, more than 10 kg of active ingredient per hectare must be used. The crop rotation, which is important for rice cultivation, can be achieved without using the new active ingredients
Impairment take place.
The process according to the invention for preparing the new active ingredients of the formula I is illustrated by the following examples. Parts therein mean parts by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
example 1
To manufacture the starting material, proceed as follows:
To a mixture of 123 g of NH4Cl (2.3 mol), 181 g of methylcyclopropyl ketone (2.15 mol) and 1 ether, 122.5 g (2.5 mol) of NaCN, dissolved in 600, are added while cooling at +5 to + 100 ml of water, added dropwise. The reaction vessel is closed and the contents are stirred for 3 days at room temperature. Then the aqueous phase is separated off, extracted 3 times with 500 ml of ether and the combined ether phases are dried with Na2SO4. The amine is not isolated, but rather precipitated as the hydrochloride by passing in HCl gas. The hydrochloride of 2-cyclopropyl-2-aminopropiononitrile is obtained with a melting point of 88-90 °. The free base has the Kpls = 870.
55.3 g of cyanuric chloride are dissolved in 500 ml of toluene and 44 g of 2-cyclopropyl-2-aminopropionitrile hydrochloride are then added with stirring. 24 g of NaOH dissolved in 60 ml of water are added dropwise to the suspension formed at +100 with stirring. The mixture is stirred at + 10o and reacts neutrally after about 3 hours. The toluene phase is then filtered, separated from the HzO phase, washed with water, dried and evaporated in vacuo.
The residue is mixed with 500 ml of ether, stirred for 15 minutes, filtered and evaporated in vacuo. The residue is recrystallized from cyclohexane. 2,4-Dichloro-6- [1'-cyclopropyl-1'-cyano-ethylamino] -s-triazine is obtained with a melting point of 85860.
5.2 g of 2,4-dichloro-6- [1'-cyclopropyl-1'-cyano-ethyl-amino] -s-triazine are dissolved in 70 ml of toluene and then 3.4 g of ethylamine are dissolved in at room temperature 3 ml of water, slowly added dropwise with stirring and cooling. After one hour the mixture has a pH value of 7. It is filtered, the toluene layer is washed with water, dried and evaporated. The residue is recrystallized from hexane / benzene. 2-Chloro-4-ethylamino-6- [1'-cyclopropyl 1 / -cyano-ethylamino] -s-triazine is obtained with a melting point of 148-1490.
Example 2
According to the last step of Example 1, 2-chloro-4-methylamino is obtained from a solution of 2,4-dichloro-6- [1'-cyclopropyl-1'-cyano-ethylamino] -s-triazine in toluene with aqueous methylamine -6- [1'-cyclopropylamino-1'-cyano-äthylamino] -s-triazine of melting point: 8140o.
In addition to the process described in Example 1, the new starting materials of the general formula II (aminonitriles) can also be prepared in other ways, in particular from the ketones of the formula V with excess hydrogen cyanide and excess ammonia at elevated temperature under pressure (autoclave). Furthermore, for their preparation, the starting ketone can be heated under pressure with excess ammonium cyanide.
The preparation of cyclopropylamino-nitriles of the formula II used as starting materials is described in more detail below: a. A 0.3 liter autoclave is charged with 25 g of methylcyclopropyl ketone, 30 g of hydrocyanic acid and 20 g of ammonia and shaken for 10 hours at a temperature of 80 ° C. The liquid reaction mixture is then dried with Na2SO4, residual hydrocyanic acid and ammonia are removed by evaporation and the residue dissolved in ether. Dry hydrogen chloride gas is passed into the ethereal solution, the hydrochloride of α-cyclopropyl-α-aminopropionitrile precipitating out; M.p. 88-900.
b. In an autoclave, 25 g of methyl cyclopropyl ketone and 50 g of ammonium cyanide are shaken at 80 ° C. for 10 hours. The cold reaction mixture is worked up as under a. described. The α-cyclopropyl-α-aminopropionitrile hydrochloride with a melting point of 88-900 is also obtained in this way.
According to the above under a. the following aminonitriles of the formula II have also been prepared: 2-cyclopropyl-2-aminovaleronitrile; Melting point of the hydrochloride: 107-109o 2,2-dicyclopropyl-2-amino-acetonitrile; Melting point of the hydrochloride: 111112o 2- [1 -methyl-cyclopropyl] -2-aminopropionitrile; Melting point of the hydrochloride: 102105c 2- [2 "-methyl-cyclopropyl] -2-aminopropionitrile;
2-cyclopropyl-2-aminoisovaleronitrile;
Melting point of the hydrochloride: 107-109
