The invention relates to a suspension device for bogies, the structure of which consists of the combination of two side members and a cast steel cross member, this device being used for the suspension of beams on axle boxes for railway wagons. suspension device being easy to assemble and disassemble, significantly reducing wear and ensuring good sound and shock insulation from rolling wheels on the rails.
This device is characterized in that the housings in the side members are formed by circular openings with a central bead delimiting two side housings; the axle boxes are generally cylindrical in shape having, at the front and at the rear, a crown forming a bead and rubber beads being pressed into said side housings of the side members by said beads of the axle box .
In a particular embodiment, one of said beads of the axle box forms part of a cover capable of being removed to ensure the assembly and disassembly of the suspension device.
Said rubber tubes may have a variable section so as to be able to adjust the parallelism of the axles.
A non-limiting example is described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which FIG. 1 shows in elevation view the essential elements of a bogie applying the device of the invention.
The fi-. 2 is a plan view.
Fig. 3 is an exploded view of a partial section along the line III-III of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is similar to FIG. 3, the various elements being shown in assembled position.
Fig. 5 shows in longitudinal section a lanyard of the type applied in the example of the preceding figures. Figs. 6 and 7 schematically show two characteristic positions of the elastic suspension elements according to the invention.
In this embodiment, the side members 1 each have two circular openings 2, the bordering wall of which is profiled so as to present a median bead 3, thus delimiting two lateral housings 4-5. The axle box 6 is cylindrical in appearance. It has, towards the rear, a bead 7. Towards the front, it has a slightly conical part 8 and a number of threaded holes 9 uniformly distributed around the longitudinal axis of the axle box.
A cover 10, having an outer bead 11, is arranged so as to be able to be engaged on (said terminal conical part of the box 6 and to be fixed thereto by screws 12 passing through holes 13 of said cover. and capable of being fixed in the threaded holes 9 of the box.
This device is completed by two round rubber tubes 14-15 of toric shape with an appropriate cross section that can be circular in shape.
The chambers 4-5 of the side members as well as the flanges 7-11, respectively of the axle box 6 and of the cover 10, are, in shape and dimensions, conditioned so as to form together spaces in which said 14-15 rubber struts are locked and immobilized.
In a particular embodiment, said rubber bolts 14-15 can easily help to adjust, respectively to ensure, the parallelism between the axles 16-17 of the bogie. To this end, said rubber beads have a variable section, for example such that, being seen in plan, the circles, respectively of larger and smaller diameter, which delimit them, are slightly eccentric.
To assemble such a suspension device, it suffices to separate the cover 10 from the axle box 6, to thread the first rubber bead 14 fully onto the latter, then the corresponding part of the lanyard 1. , and, finally, to replace the cover 10.
For disassembly, simply proceed in reverse order.
In such an embodiment, it is obtained that, under the effect of the load which they support, the side members 2 crush the rubber beads 14-l5 between the median bead 3 of the circular holes 2 and the beads 7-11 pressing. these on the outside of the box 6.
This arrangement is such that slight relative movements between boxes and side members remain permitted in all directions, while these movements are limited and controlled by the return force due to the rubber.
It also benefits from damping thanks to the internal friction of the rubber and the friction between rubber and steel.
Finally (fig. 6-7), if one of the side members of the bogie, for example, has come from a foundry or manufacture with a spacing of the box housings E -hs (case shown) where E - s, while the one facing it has a correct spacing of E, we can easily maintain the spacing E of the axles by rotating the flanges in a direction such that the projection of the offset e of the inner circumference of the flange onto a horizontal axis is equal or approximately equal to s.
On the other hand, if s is negative, we can turn the rubber bead clockwise.
It goes without saying that the maximum value of s cannot exceed the eccentricity of the inner and outer circumferences of the strands.
The advantages of such a suspension device are numerous and important. First of all, it will be observed that after a force or a shock that has caused a deformation of the rectangular structure of the bogie, restoring forces arise at the level of the rubber tubes and tend to bring the bogie back to its original rectangular shape.
The flexibility that the device gives to the guidance of the axles allows them to orient themselves appropriately and thus improves the registration of the bogie in curves, particularly with regard to sliding at the level of the rolling surfaces and the contacts of the bolt of the wheel on the rail.
It will also be observed that a slight primary suspension effect is additionally obtained by the crushing of the rubber under the vertical load. The wear of the metal parts at the places of contact with the rubber slugs is also systematically avoided, since, in the prior device, the wear results essentially from the steel-to-steel contacts.
For the same reason, the device according to the invention provides good sound insulation while absorbing the effects resulting from shocks coming from the rolling of the wheels on the rails.
The cylindrical shape of the axle box makes it possible to adopt a continuous line with relatively low curvature for the side members, thereby reducing the risks of concentration and tension in the areas indicated at A in fig. 1.
Yet another advantage of this suspension device is found in the adoption of a box of very simple shape and relatively small dimensions, that is to say, therefore, a relatively light box.
Finally, another advantage is found in the possibility of ensuring correct parallelism of the axles and a certainty of recovering this parallelism after the elastic deformations.
A happy consequence of the shape of said rails and the safety in the relative position of the two rails is that one can use sliding triangles even for the outer triangles.
In practice, dimensions will be adopted such that, even in the eventuality that the rubber tubes were to disappear and that, by this fact, the spar would rest directly on the box, it would remain impossible to separate the box from the spar, as long as the box cover is in place.
There is a major security here.
By rubber beads, it is obviously necessary to understand any annular element suitable in shape, dimensions and material, as equivalence, in function and result, to rubber tubes. The rubber can be natural or synthetic or be made of a suitable synthetic resin. The strands can be solid or hollow. In this second case, they will generally be placed under internal pressure.
Finally, said strands may be produced in a single piece or in a composite manner in proportion to the method of manufacture and the applications envisaged.
