Process for the preparation of pyridinecarboxylic acids
The main patent No. 495 990 claims a process for the production of pyridinecarboxylic acids, which is characterized in that nitric acid is used for the oxidation of alkylpyridines in such an amount that the excess of HNOs over the amount theoretically required for oxidation is 25 to 600%, that the mixture is reacted at temperatures of 180 to 2600C and pressures of 20 to 60 atmospheres with a residence time of 1 to 20 minutes, the resulting reaction mixture is adjusted to an HNO3 concentration of 10 to 28%, the pyridinecarboxylic acid in the form of its hydronitrate at 0 Crystallized up to 200C and separated from the acidic mother liquor, the crystallized pyridinecarboxylic acid hydronitrate dissolves in water,
adjusts the solution with the appropriate starting base (alkylpyridine) to the isoelectric point of the pyridinecarboxylic acid to be produced, separates the crystallizing pyridinecarboxylic acid from the base-containing mother liquor, combines the two mother liquors, brings them to the initial concentration and returns them to the process.
In additional patent no. 504437 it was found that other polynuclear heterocyclic compounds which have a pyridine core, such as quinoline, quinoline derivatives such as quinaldine, lepidine, hydroxyquinoline, aminoquinoline, isoquinoline, isoquinoline derivatives, acridine and acridine derivatives, according to the method of the main patent in pyridinecarboxylic acids can be transferred.
In the additional patent no. 511 848 it was further established that work can also be carried out at higher temperatures up to 3200C and pressures up to 100 atmospheres.
It has now been found that the process according to the main patent and additional patents can also be carried out at temperatures of up to 3500C and at higher pressures of up to 150 atmospheres.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of pyridinecarboxylic acids by oxidation of alkylpyridines and polynuclear heterocyclic compounds which have a pyridine nucleus with nitric acid at elevated temperature and elevated pressures, characterized in that aqueous nitric acid is used for the oxidation in such an amount that The excess of HNO3 over the amount theoretically required for oxidation is 25,600%, so that this mixture can also be converted at higher temperatures of 3200C to 3500C and higher pressures of 100 to 150 atmospheres with a residence time of 1 to 20 minutes Adjusts the reaction mixture to a HNO3 concentration of 10 to 28%,
the pyridinecarboxylic acid crystallizes out in the form of its hydronitrate at 0 to 20oC and separated from the acidic mother liquor, dissolves the crystallized pyridinecarboxylic acid hydronitrate in the water, adjusts the solution with the corresponding starting base to the isoelectric point of the pyridinecarboxylic acid to be produced, separates the crystallizing pyridinecarboxylic acid from the base liquor brings the two mother liquors combined to the initial concentration and returns them to the process.
example
4720 g of a mixture of 6.4% methylethylpyrimidine and 33% HNOB were passed through a reactor tube made of titanium with a capacity of 155 ml at a temperature of 3050C and a pressure of 120 atmospheres for 24 minutes (residence time = 0.92 minutes).
4090 g of liquid reaction product resulted. The remainder, 630 g (13.3%), was removed in gaseous form.
The reaction product was brought to a nitric acid concentration of 2570 by evaporation and cooled to 0.degree. 394.7 g of nicotinic acid hydronitrate with a nicotinic acid content of 66.3% crystallized out. This product was separated from the acidic mother liquor (870 g) by centrifugation. The mother liquor contained a further 30 g of nicotinic acid.
The isocinchomeronic acid content in the mother liquor was 0.25%.
The nicotinic acid hydronitrate (394.7 g) was dissolved in 1200 g of water, heated to 950 ° C. and brought to a pH of 3.3 with 287.0 g of AKO. After cooling, the liberated, crystallized nicotinic acid was centrifuged off and dried. 204 g of nicotinic acid resulted. At a conversion of 95%, based on the 2-methyl-5-ethylpyridine used, this corresponds to an isolated yield of 70.0%. The overall yield (isolated nicotinic acid + nicotinic acid in mother liquor) was 95.0%. The two mother liquors were combined and still contained 73 g of nicotinic acid and 302.0 g of 2-methyl-5-ethylpyridine.
These combined mother liquors were brought back to the initial concentration and amount with nitric acid.
The solution brought back to the original amount and concentration was - reacted and worked up as described above. This resulted in 248.0 g of nicotinic acid, corresponding to an isolated yield of 84.0%, with a conversion of 95.0%. The resulting nicotinic acid was pure white. The purity was 99.6%.
