Process for the production of azo compounds that are sparingly soluble in water
The invention relates to a process for the production of sparingly water-soluble azo compounds of the 2-halogen-4-nitro-2'-acylamino-4'-dialkylamino-1, 1 -azobenzene series, which are excellent for dyeing or printing fibers or fiber material made of fully or semi-synthetic, hydrophobic, high molecular weight organic substances.
The new compounds correspond to the formula
EMI1.1
wherein the two symbols R, each a hydrogen atom or one R, a hydrogen atom and the other a chlorine or bromine atom, R2 a chlorine or bromine atom, R an alkyl. Alkoxyl, aryl or aryloxy radical. and R4 denotes an alkylcarbonyloxy, arylcarbonyloxy, alkoxycarbonyloxy or aryloxycarbonyloxy radical, the alkyl and alkylene radicals are of low molecular weight and the alkyl, alkylene and aryl radicals can carry substituents with the exception of sulfonic acid and carboxylic acid groups.
Preferred alkyl or alkylene groups are those containing 1, 2, 3 or 4 carbon atoms, and preferred aryl groups are, in particular, phenyl groups.
As substituents on the alkyl and alkylene groups, for. B. low molecular weight (especially 1 to 4 carbon atoms) alkoxy radicals, halogen atoms, especially chlorine or bromine atoms, cyano, rhodium, acyl or acyloxy groups. The aryl radicals can, in addition to the substituents just mentioned, for. B. still wear nitro groups.
Preferred acyl radicals are those of the formula R-X- or R'-Y-. Therein: R denotes a hydrocarbon radical which can optionally carry substituents which do not make water solubility and / or can contain heteroatoms, preferably an alkyl radical with 1, 2, 3 or 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl radical, X a radical of the formula -O-CO- or -SO2- , R 'is a hydrogen atom or R, Y is a radical of the formula -CO-, -NR "CO- or -NR" SO2-, and R "is a hydrogen atom or R.
The new compounds of the formula are prepared by acylation of a compound of the formula
EMI1.2
with an acid of the formula R4-H (I1I) or, in particular, a suitable functional derivative of such an acid, e.g. B. the acid chloride, bromide or anhydride.
This reaction usually takes place in an inert organic solvent, e.g. B. benzene, toluene, xylene, nitrobenzene, dioxane or a chlorobenzene, at temperatures between 0 and about 50 ° C. It can be advantageous to carry out the reaction in the presence of acid-binding agents, e.g. magnesium oxide, alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate or acetate.
The processing of the dyes of formula 1 to dye preparations is carried out in a generally known manner, for. B. by grinding in the presence of dispersants and / or fillers.
The preparations, optionally dried in vacuo or by atomization, can, after the addition of more or less water, be used for dyeing, padding or printing in what is known as a long or short liquor.
The dyes are extremely well absorbed from aqueous suspension on textile material made of fully synthetic or semi-synthetic, hydrophobic, high-molecular organic substances. They are particularly suitable for dyeing or printing textile material made from linear, aromatic polyesters and from cellulose-2-l / 2-acetate, cellulose triacetate and synthetic polyamides.

the process described in French patent 1,445,371.
The dyeings obtained have very good all-round fastness properties. To be emphasized are the light fastness, gas fume, ozone and sea water fastness, the wash fastness, thermosetting and pleating fastness as well as the reduction resistance, wool reserve and etchability. The dyes are also resistant to the effects of the various permanent pressing processes.
The parts mentioned in the following example are parts by weight, the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
