Fig. 2 eine perspektivische Ansicht des zweiten Ausführungsbeispiels.

Method for changing the position of an object in relation to a carrier transporting it
The invention relates to a method for changing the position of an object in relation to a driver which transports it. The term object>> is to be understood here in particular as a flat object, for example a plate-shaped product, a piece of cardboard, a sheet of paper, such as an envelope blank and the like.
The problem of further transporting an object brought in a predetermined position by a carrier in a different position relative to the carrier arises in connection with printing machines, packaging machines and other processing systems. As long as these are robust and insensitive objects, relatively simple devices can be used for the stated purpose, such as conveyor chains equipped with drivers and crossing at right angles.
On the other hand, the method creates difficulties when the objects brought in in a certain position and to be carried away in another position are fragile or do not have a high tensile strength. Sheets of paper are particularly delicate in this regard. It has been shown that sheets of paper either crumple or even tear if, for example, a relative movement, albeit a very slight one, is present during the transfer phase between a gripper transporting the sheet and a gripper taking over the sheet in a different position.
The basic requirement is therefore to be seen in the smooth handing over or taking over of the objects. Above all, it is a question of a sheet-like object which does not actually have flexural strength, e.g. to be transported with the help of a gripper and in the course of the transport movement without the risk of damage to another gripper in such a way that it is in a e.g. is conveyed further in a twisted position.
According to the invention, the outlined object can be achieved in that the object is guided along a concave circular path with the aid of a driver forming part of a first conveyor, and that in the course of this movement phase the object is taken over by a driver belonging to a second conveyor, which while the object is being taken over, it passes through a circular arc which is concentric to the said circular path at the same angular velocity and takes a different direction relative to the object.
The method is advantageously carried out in such a way that a driver of the first conveyor, designed as a tong, opens only after the object has been gripped by a driver tong of the second conveyor.
Thanks to the fact that the two interacting drivers are moved at the same angular speed along concave circular arc paths and the object is transferred during this movement phase, the result is a completely smooth transfer from a driver of the first conveyor to a driver of the second conveyor. Because the objects are transferred from one carrier to another without acceleration, correspondingly high work rates can be achieved despite careful handling of the material. This fact is significant when the task is to feed high-speed processing machines objects in a predetermined position.
For example, one has the ability to grasp relatively narrow sheets of paper separated from a wide roll by means of driving tongs, the longitudinal direction of which is parallel to the longitudinal extension of the sheets, and then to transfer the sheets transported in this position to driving tongs at high speed, that the longitudinal direction of the pincers is at right angles to the longitudinal extension of the leaves. The further transport of the sheets, which are intended, for example, to be fed to a packaging machine, then takes place in such a way that the longitudinal direction of the sheets and the direction of movement coincide.
Of course, the change in the position of the object with respect to the carrier transporting it does not necessarily have to be 900. In certain cases it can be ensured that the angle between the infeed and the outfeed driver is greater or less than 900 at the moment the object is transferred. As will be seen below, this angle can easily be preset and adapted to the respective circumstances if the method is suitably implemented and the means are designed.
The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method. According to the invention, this device has a first and a second conveyor, each of which is equipped with at least one driver, the movement paths of which run over part of their conveyor paths in a circular arc and concentric to one another.
The objects are expediently transported with the help of two synchronously driven, endless, non-positive and flexible conveying organs, from which driving tongs protrude at regular intervals, which in turn come into engagement with stationary control organs in the area of the circular arc-shaped conveying lines. Toothed belts, chains, metal belts or the like can be used as flexible conveyor elements, that is to say flexible traction means which are non-positive in such a way that they can be bent but not stretched.
The method and two exemplary embodiments of the device according to the invention are described below with reference to the drawing. They represent:
1 shows a schematic plan view of the first exemplary embodiment,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the second embodiment.
In the case of the device according to FIG. 1, the problem is solved, withdrawn from a roll 1 and by means of automatically operated cutting shears 2 cut, rectangular envelope blanks 3, the extent of which is significantly greater in one direction than in the other direction, from the cutting shears and conveyed on then to be fed to a packaging machine in such a position that the greater extent of the blanks coincides with the direction of transport thereof. A first and a second conveyor are provided for this purpose. The first conveyor consists of an endless toothed belt 4, which is occupied on the toothed side at regular intervals with schematically indicated driver tongs 5.
The second conveyor is designed analogously and consists of an endless toothed belt 6, the toothed side of which is equipped with driving tongs 7 at equal intervals. In the area of two disc-shaped drive and guide wheels 10 and 11, which are located on the same axis 12 and are firmly connected to it, deflection rollers 8 and 9 are freely rotatably arranged on corresponding, perpendicular axes. Further pulleys are denoted by 13, 14 and 15.
It can be seen from the drawing that a sheathing blank 3 is initially gripped by each driver tong 5 on the output side of the cutting shears 2.
For opening and closing the pliers 5 and 7, fixed control means such as control rails, control cams or the like are advantageously attached where the pliers are to be actuated.
The transfer of the blanks which can be seen in Fig. 1, e.g. can consist of elongated sheets of paper for wrapping chocolate bars, although it is more favorable for the storage of the film-like material, because you can get by with supply rolls of smaller diameter. On the other hand, it is often felt to be a disadvantage that the blanks are shifted across their larger dimensions. For this reason, the toothed belt 4 lies on the circumferential surface of the drive and guide wheel 10 equipped with notches that accommodate the teeth of the belt, so that each of the driving tongs 5 protruding perpendicularly from the toothed belt 4 is guided over part of its path along a concave circular arc during each revolution becomes. In principle, this also applies to the driver tongs 7 attached to the toothed belt 6.
The teeth of the belt 6 engage in notches in the drive wheel 11. The pliers 7 are slightly longer than the pliers 5. Although the toothed belts 4 and 6 naturally cannot be at the same height due to the superposition of the wheels or disks 10 and 11, the pliers 5 and 7 must move in the same plane, so that the blanks 3 are transferred from one to the other conveyor without creasing. This requirement can easily be met with appropriate holders on which the pliers 5 sit. With a suitable pre-setting of the mutual phase relationship between the clamps 5 and 7, and provided that the distances from clamp to clamp are correctly selected, it can be achieved that a clamp 7 is assigned to each clamp 5 as long as it is located on the concave circular arc path is.
The longitudinal center axes of the two tongs, which are moved simultaneously on concentric, concave circular paths, are perpendicular to one another in the example shown.
By driving the axis 12, synchronous rotation of the two toothed belts 4 and 6 and of the driver tongs 5 and 7 held by them can be achieved in a simple manner. If you take care of it. that during the circular arc movement the pliers 5 holding the blank 3 does not open before the pliers 7 gripping this blank is closed, a completely shock-free delivery of the blanks can be achieved. The control elements required to actuate the driver tongs 5 and 7 are not illustrated in FIG. 1.
It can be seen from the drawing that the toothed belt 6 conveys the blanks taken over for further use in a position rotated by 900 in the direction of the arrow along a straight line.
In the device according to FIG. 2, a single guide and drive wheel 101 is provided with toothed notches 102 which are uniformly distributed on its circumferential surface and parallel to the axis 120 of the wheel. Furthermore, the wheel 101 has recesses 103 along its periphery at regular intervals, which are intended to receive the holding parts 51 and 71 of the driver tongs 50 and 70, which are fastened to the conveyor elements designed as endless toothed belts 40 and 60.
The toothed belt 40, which serves as the first conveying element, has transverse teeth 41 at regular intervals. These lie in the mentioned notches 102 of the disk-shaped guide and drive wheel 101, which is set in rotation by the axis 120.
This drive not only causes the belt 40 to revolve over a pulley 80 and other means not shown in the drawing. but at the same time results in a synchronous driving of the belt 60 in the direction of the arrow. A pulley 90 changes the direction of the belt 60.
It can be seen from the drawing that each of the two toothed belts 40 and 60 lies over part of the periphery of the wheel 101. Each driver tong is therefore guided over a small part of its path along a concave circular path. The arrangement is such that a pair of tongs 50 and a pair of tongs 70 always execute a circular arc movement at the same time, and that during this movement the two tongs rotating with the wheel 101 enclose a right angle with one another.
Each driver tong 50 or 70 is fastened to the toothed belt 40 or 60 with the aid of a holding part 51 or 71. An immovable clamping jaw 52 or 72 is integrally connected to this holding part 51 or 71. Furthermore, a movable upper clamping jaw 53 or 73 is articulated on this part 51 or 71, which is angled and opens into an upwardly projecting tongue 54 or 74. At the end of this tongue there is a roller 56 or 76. At a predetermined moment, it rests against a fixed control rail 57 or 77, whereby the clamping jaw 53 or 73 is raised against the action of a flat spring 55 or 75. In other words: the tongs 50 open under the action of the control rail 57, while the opening of the tongs 70 is brought about by the control rail 77.
Of course, there are further control elements for opening the driver tongs 50 when picking up the blanks 30 and opening the tongs 70 when releasing the blanks.
The mode of operation of the device according to FIG. 2 essentially corresponds to that according to FIG. 1. Each of the tongs 50 of the first toothed belt 40 guides a blank 30 in <<transverse direction>> to the transfer point, where the blank is placed in the open jaws of a tong 70 pushes. In the course of the circular arc movement, the corresponding pliers 70 first close, whereupon the pliers 50 open their jaws 52 and 53. This transfer takes place without any mechanical stress on the blank 30, so that the risk of damage to it is excluded. The blanks taken over in this way then move on in the longitudinal direction for further use, that is to say in a different position with respect to the driving tongs than before the transfer.
In certain cases, two guide and drive wheels driven synchronously at the same angular speed can be provided, between which there is a free space without continuous axes or shafts. One wheel is then used to guide and drive the primary conveyor element, while the other wheel guides and drives the secondary conveyor element. So that the transfer of the objects from the supplying tongs to the removing tongs can proceed without interference, it is necessary that the tongs attached to the higher-lying conveying element are arranged <<hanging>> on this, whereas the tongs attached to the more rigid conveying element are arranged from protrude below into the free space.
Finally, it should also be pointed out that instead of drive and conveyor wheels or disks, other arcuate guideways can be used. The drive of the revolving, endless conveying organs equipped with drivers then has to take place, for example, with special toothed wheels or the like, which can be arranged on the inside of the area circumscribed by the conveying organs.
