Description
Plastic containers
The invention relates to a container made of plastic, in particular for the transport and storage of vegetables and fruits, with essentially closed outer walls and a rectangular plan.
A general requirement for transport and storage containers is that the containers must be easy to handle, with a view to saving working time and labor, and should have great stability with the lowest possible weight. This also applies in particular to such plastic containers.
In view of the high weight in the filled state, easy handling, in particular of larger containers, includes the possibility of being able to lift, transport and stack the containers in a simple manner by machine.
The invention has accordingly set itself the task of creating a plastic container of the type mentioned at the beginning which meets the requirements explained in an economical manner. The solution to the problem is characterized in that the container bottom has groove-shaped recesses for the engagement of a forklift truck. Such a container can then be transported and lifted directly with forklifts of conventional design without the use of pallets, in that the arms of the forklift engage in the groove-shaped recesses from below.
It is useful if the recesses run through from one side of the box to the opposite side of the box and if, in adaptation to the usual forklift trucks, two such recesses are assigned to each box side.
The load capacity required for the practical usability of such containers, especially with regard to the weight load when containers are usually placed on top of one another to form higher stacks, can be achieved economically according to a development of the invention if the container side walls are designed as load-bearing elements. It is possible to depart from the principle that is otherwise common with similar containers, for example plastic bottle transport crates, to achieve a high load capacity with the lowest possible weight through rigid, load-bearing corner supports that are connected by relatively thin, flat and non-load-bearing walls.
In the case of large containers, this design principle would lead to material accumulations for the corner supports, which are undesirable or even unsustainable for manufacturing reasons. A departure from this construction principle by utilizing the load-bearing capacity of the side walls, on the other hand, enables at least the same load-bearing capacity with less material expenditure, whereby it should be noted that the stiff profiles otherwise required to bridge the unsupported length between the corner supports are weaker due to the support provided by the load-bearing side walls and can therefore be held more easily and with less material.
An improvement in the supporting function of the side walls can still be achieved without a large additional material requirement if the side walls are equipped with corrugations, the valleys of which run from the top edge of the box to the bottom of the box.
A further improvement in the load capacity, both for weight loads in the vertical direction and for lateral impacts, which cannot be avoided in rough operation, can be achieved if the container basins have a circular cross-section, which is rounded on both sides by an inward curve merges into the adjacent side walls.
The container can be manufactured according to the so-called rotational molding process, in which the plastic in liquefied form is not pressed into the corresponding cavities of a multi-part injection mold, as is the case with the known injection molding processes, but in which the plastic is introduced in granular form into a rotating hollow mold and then adjoins it heated surfaces and melts together to form the workpiece. As a result, the high costs for an injection mold of conventional design can be reduced significantly and, in addition, no moving parts are required in the mold if internal undercuts are to be produced.
The invention is described in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment which is shown in the drawings. Show it:
Fig. 1 is a sectional side view of a container in the left part,
2 shows a horizontal section through a container corner; FIG. 3 shows a partial plan view of the container according to FIG. 1.
The plastic container shown in the figures is intended for the transport and storage of vegetables or fruit and has relatively large dimensions compared to conventional plastic containers. For example, the side length of the square base is about 1.1 m and the height is about 70 cm.
The side walls 1 are closed except for ventilation holes or slots, which are not shown. The container bottom is also kept closed, apart from drain openings 3 (Fig. 3). For the engagement of a forklift truck, the box bottom 2 has elevations 4 extending from one box side to the other, which define groove-shaped recesses 5. On each side of the box there are two elevations 4, the spacing of which is adapted to the spacing of the arms of a conventional forklift truck. The intersecting elevations 4 each form an intersection 6 in the vicinity of a corner (FIG. 3). Since the groove-shaped recesses 5 are present on each side of the container and run through to the opposite side, a forklift truck can reach from all sides and as deeply as desired and lift the container.
The side walls 1 are, as shown in phantom in Fig. 3, equipped with a corrugation 7, which leads to an increase in the load-bearing capacity. In the container corners, the side walls 1 form a rounding 8 which is semicircular in cross section. Wave-shaped indentations 9 also adjoin the rounding on both sides, so that reinforcement corresponding to the wave-shaped configuration 7 of the side walls 1 is also provided in the container corners.
The upper edge of the box is formed by a circumferential flange 10 which covers the corrugations 7 of the side walls 1 and is widened at the corners and which simultaneously serves as a support surface for a stacked container. The box bottom 2 is set down with the formation of a likewise circumferential installation surface 11 in such a way that it can penetrate the container opening caused by the flange 10 with only a small tolerance. In this way, the position of the stacked containers is secured.
