Beispiel I
Beispiel 3

Substanz A = 2-(2'-Hydroxy-5'-methyl-phenyl)-benz triazol Substanz B = 2-(2'-Hydroxy-3',5'-di-tert.butyl-phe nyl)-benztriazol Substanz C = 2-(2'-Hydroxy-3'-methyl-5'-tert.butyl- -phenyl)-5-chlorbenztriazol Substanz D = 2,2'-Methylenbis-[4-methyl-6-benztri- azolyl-(2) -phenol]
Beispiel 5
a) 100 Teile Polypropylen

suitable compounds are, for example, carbonyl compounds and, o: -Chloroalkyl ethers. Examples of carbonyl compounds include paraformaldehyde, and chloroalkyl ethers are chloromethyl methyl ether.
Preferred compounds of the general formula I are those in which R3 and R4 are hydrogen and R1 and R2 and n and m are as defined. Such compounds show a particularly favorable specific extinction coefficient.
The compounds of general formula I prepared according to the invention are particularly suitable as UV absorbers for polymers such as polystyrenes, polyacrylonitrile, polyacrylates and their copolymers, polydienes e.g. Polybutadiene, polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, polyethylene, polyester, e.g. Polyethylene terephthalates, polycarbonates, polyamides, e.g. Polycaprolactam and polyurethanes, preference being given to those polymers which are used at higher temperatures, e.g. above 1500, can be processed. The substances according to the invention are added to the polymers in amounts of up to about 5%, preferably in amounts of 0.1-2%.
The compounds offer an unexpected combination of excellent properties: they not only have favorably stored absorption spectra and excellent lightfastness, but are also characterized by extraordinary resistance to sublimation, high specific extinction coefficients and good compatibility with plastics.
The 2- (2'-hydroxy-5'-methylphenyl) -benztriaz described in DAS 1185 610, which is frequently used in industry as a UV absorber for polymers, shows a favorable absorption spectrum, a high specific extinction coefficient and good resistance to light and heat, due to its easy sublimability, however, difficulties arise for incorporation into plastics whose processing takes place at relatively high temperatures, which means that special equipment precautions and increased use are required to compensate for sublimation losses. Corresponding substitution products with longer alkyl chains do not yet give satisfactory results either.
Although they show slightly improved sublimation behavior, their specific extinction coefficient is lower than that of the corresponding products with short-chain alkyl radicals. Compensation for the lower specific absorption through the use of higher amounts of absorber is also subject to limits due to the undesired change in properties of the polymers caused by this.
The compounds according to the invention can be incorporated in the most varied of ways, for example by mixing them with the polymers prior to their further processing at a higher temperature by adding them to the melt of the polymers, or by adding them to suspended polymers during their processing. If appropriate, they can also be added to the starting materials for the production of the polymers and do not lose their absorption capacity even in the presence of other conventional light or heat stabilizers, oxidizing and reducing agents and the like.
The parts given in the following examples are parts by weight, the degrees are to be understood as degrees Celsius, K is the specific extinction coefficient given in [] and h ,,, denotes the gcm absorption maximum.
Example I.
450 parts of 2- (2'-hydroxy-5'-methyl-phenyl) - -benztriazole are dissolved in 3900 parts of glacial acetic acid by heating to 1000, 33 parts of paraformaldehyde are added with stirring and 196 parts of conc. Sulfuric acid are added dropwise at 1000.
into the reaction mixture in 30 minutes. The mixture is stirred at 1150 for four hours, allowed to cool and the precipitate formed is filtered off with suction. The precipitate is washed neutral and dried at 1200. 448 parts of 2,2'-methylenebis [4-methyl-6-benztriazolyl- (2) -phenoU, which melts at 282-2840 after recrystallization from chlorobenzene are obtained. lmax 346 nIn; K = 75.8 (CHCls).
Example 2
56.25 parts of 2- (2'-hydroxy-5'-methyl-phenyl) -benzotriazole are added to 300 parts of nitrobenzene, and 33.3 parts of aluminum chloride are added at 5-100. At this temperature, 10 g of chloromethyl methyl ether are added dropwise and the reaction mixture is then heated up to 900. At 600, the evolution of hydrogen chloride begins. After the evolution of hydrogen chloride has ended, the mixture is cooled, and the reaction mixture is poured into a mixture of 1000 parts of ice and 100 parts of conc. Hydrochloric acid entered. The nitrobenzene is distilled off with steam, the residue is isolated and washed neutral.
48 parts of 2,2'-methylenebis [4-methyl-6-benz triazolyl- (2) -phenol] are obtained.
Example 3
67.2 parts of 2- (2'-hydroxy-5'-nonylphenyl) - benzotriazole are dissolved in 368 parts of glacial acetic acid, 8.8 parts of chloromethyl methyl ether and 10 parts of conc. Sulfuric acid added. During heating to 1000, hydrogen chloride evolves. The mixture is stirred for two hours, cooled and decanted from the separated oil. The oil is dissolved in methylene chloride, washed until neutral and, after evaporation, reprecipitated from 130 parts of butanol.
After working up the mother liquors, 38 parts of a resin of 2,2'-methylenebis [4-nonyl-6-benzotriazolyl- (2) -phenol] which is brittle at room temperature are obtained.
Smax 344 nm; K = 50.0
Example 4
To compare the different sublimability, 6 parts of each substance AD were placed in an externally heated, evacuable sublimation apparatus provided with a mill finger and the amount of the substances sublimed under certain conditions was determined and compared in a table.

Example 5
To determine the effectiveness of the compounds according to the invention as UV absorbers in polypropylene, the following tests were carried out:
a) 100 parts of polypropylene
0.2 part of 2,2'-methylene-bis- [4-methyl-6-benztri azolyl- (2) -phenol]
0.25 part of a wetting agent for wetting the granulate surface, e.g. sulphured nipple oil are mixed intimately in a mixing drum and then melted in a kneading screw with a slot nozzle at a temperature of 210-2200 and injected into strips 0.3-0.4 mm thick. A slight stretching of the plastic can be achieved by slightly accelerating the trigger.
Experiment as described under a), but b) using 0.2 parts of 2- (2'-hydroxy-5'-methyl-phenyl) -benztriazole instead of the 2,2'-methylene-bis- [4-methyl -6-benzotriazolyl- (2) -phenol].
Experiment as described under a), but c) without using a UV absorber.
The tapes produced according to a), b) and c) do not differ visually from one another, but if they are stapled on optically brightened white paper and irradiated with a UV lamp (from Hoerner UVANALYS 365.8 mu), it glows Paper under film c is particularly intense blue due to the UV light that has passed through, under film b it is clearly blue and under film a not at all.
With the same amount of UV absorbers used for a and b and almost the same specific extinction coefficient of the two UV absorbers, film b lets some of the UV light through. The 2- (2'-hydroxy-5'-methyl-phenyl) -benztriazole partially volatilized during the manufacture of the tapes.
Example 6 a) To 100 parts of molten polycarbonate from 0.2 part of 2,2'-methylene-bis44-methyl-6-benztn.awlyl-2,2- (4,4'-dioxydiphenyl) propane with a K value of 50 - (2) -phenol] are entered as UV absorber and distributed homogeneously with stirring.
