B. bei menschlicher Haut) u. a. m.

Use of new hydroxyphenyl-1, 3, 5-triazines as ultraviolet protection agents outside the textile industry
The present invention relates to the use of new, valuable hydroxyphenyl-1, 3, 5-triazines which, such. B. the compound of formula
EMI1.1
the general formula
EMI1.2
in which R is a benzene radical bonded directly to the triazine ring with a ring carbon atom and Z is a hydroxyl group or an alkoxy group with a maximum of 12 carbon atoms, where R has no oxygen-containing substituents, as an ultraviolet protection agent outside the textile industry.
The benzene radical R in the given general formula (2) does not contain any oxygen-containing substituents, that is to say, for example, no hydroxyl groups or etherified hydroxyl groups. It can be free of further substituents at all, i. H. the phenyl group
EMI1.3
represent, or it can carry further substituents which do not contain oxygen, e.g. B. alkyl groups with, for example, 1 to 4 carbon atoms, such as methyl, ethyl, isopropyl and tert. Butyl, alkylphenyl groups, phenylalkyl groups, also cyclohexyl groups and halogen atoms such as fluorine or chlorine.
Among the new hydroxyphenyl-1, 3, 5-triazines of the general formula (2), those of the general formula may be mentioned, for example
EMI1.4
correspond, where U is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom such as chlorine, an alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl group and Z is a hydroxyl group or an alkoxy group with at most 12 carbon atoms, and among these hydroxyphenyl-1, 3, 5-triazines of formula (4) are those of formula
EMI2.1
where Ut denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and Z has the meaning given in connection with formulas (2) and (4), particularly listed.
The new hydroxyphenyl-1, 3, 5-triazines of the formula (2) given at the outset are obtained by methods known per se, for example by adding 1 mole of a dichloro-1, in an anhydrous medium in the presence of Friedel-Crafts catalysts, in particular aluminum chloride 3, 5-triazines of the formula
EMI2.2
wherein R is a benzene radical bonded directly to the triazine ring with the ring carbon atom and free of oxygen-containing substituents, with 2 mol of a compound of the formula
EMI2.3
where Z and Zt each represent a hydroxyl group or an alkoxy group having at most 12 carbon atoms.
The dichloro-1, 3, 5-triazines of the formula (6) are either known or can likewise be prepared by methods known per se.
Examples of compounds of the formula (7) are:
1,3-dihydroxy-benzene,
1-hydroxy-3-methoxy-benzene, 1-hydroxy-3-ethoxy-benzene,
1, 3-dimethoxy-benzene,
1, 3-diethoxy-benzene.
If compounds of the formula (7), in which Z and Zl represent alkoxy groups of the specified type, are used as starting materials for the reaction with the dichloro-1, 3, 5-triazines of the formula (6), then in the reaction, particularly at elevated temperatures, the etherified hydroxyl group (Zl) in the ortho position to the bond being formed on the triazine ring is cleaved, so that hydroxyphenyl-1, 3, 5-triazines of the formula (2) are also obtained from these starting materials.
Hydroxyphenyl-1, 3, 5-triazines of the formula (2) with those hydroxybenzene radicals which have a hydroxyl group in the ortho position to the bond to the triazine ring and an etherified hydroxyl group in the para position to this can also be obtained if one in hydroxyphenyl -1, 3, 5-triazines with hydroxybenzene radicals which have an (unetherified) hydroxyl group both in the ortho and in the para position to the bond to the triazine ring, subsequently the hydroxyl group in the para position by methods known per se with corresponding alkyl halides such as B. n-propyl, n-octyl and dodecyl bromides or etherified with dialkyl sulfates such as diethyl sulfate.
With the aid of the compounds described above under formula (2) and the following formulas, in principle all organic materials outside the textile industry that are damaged or destroyed in any way by the influence of ultraviolet rays can be stabilized and protected. Such damage caused by the same cause, namely ultraviolet radiation, can have very different effects, for example color change, change in mechanical properties (brittleness, cracking, tear strength, flexural strength, abrasion resistance, elasticity, aging), initiation of undesired chemical reactions (decomposition of sensitive ones chemical substances, e.g. drugs), photochemically induced rearrangements, oxidation, etc.
(for example from oils containing unsaturated fatty acids), triggering of burns and irritations (e.g. in human skin) and the like. a. m. The use of the compounds defined above for the protection of polycondensation products and polyaddition products against the action of ultraviolet is of preferred importance. In addition, a number of the compounds defined above show, in addition to the said ultraviolet protective effect, a stabilizing effect against the effects of oxygen and heat, as well as antistatic properties.
The organic materials to be protected - as defined above - can exist in the most varied of processing states and aggregate states, while their common feature is a sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation.
Low-molecular or high-molecular substances that can be protected or stabilized according to the invention include, for example, without limitation: organic natural substances such as those used for pharmaceutical purposes (medicaments), UV-sensitive dyes, compounds that are used as food or in Food is decomposed by exposure to light (unsaturated fatty acids in brine), etc.
Examples of high molecular weight organic substances are:
I. Synthetic organic high molecular weight materials such as: a) Polymerization products based on at least one polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond containing organic compounds, d. H. their homo- or copolymers and their
Aftertreatment products, such as crosslinking, grafting or degradation products, polymer blends, modification products, for example

Mixed condensation products and products of the
Post-treatment, for which, for example, are mentioned:

Alcohols such as B. alkyd resins)], polyamides (e.g.
B.
Hexamethylenediamine adipate), maleinate resins, melamine resins, phenolic resins (e.g. novolaks), aniline resins, furan resins, carbamide resins and also their
Precondensates and products built in the same way, polycarbonates, silicone resins and others; d) Polyaddition products, such as polyurethanes (crosslinked and uncrosslinked), epoxy resins.
II. Semi-synthetic organic materials, such as. B.
Cellulose esters or mixed esters (acetate, propionate), nitrocellulose, cellulose ether, regenerated cellulose (viscose, copper ammonia cellulose) or their aftertreatment products or casein plastics.
III. Natural organic materials of animal or vegetable origin, for example based on cellulose or proteins, such as bast, jute, hemp, skins and hair, leather, wood masses in fine distribution, natural resins (such as rosin, in particular varnish resins), gelatine, glue, and also rubber, Gutta-percha, balata and their aftertreatment and modification products, degradation products, products obtainable by modifying reactive groups.
The organic materials that can be considered, in particular plastics from the class of polymers of vinyl chloride and propylene, saturated and unsaturated polyesters, celluloses and polyamides, can be in the most varied of processing states (raw materials, semi-finished or finished products) and aggregate states. They can be in the form of the most varied of shaped structures; H. so z.
B. predominantly three-dimensional expanded bodies, such as profiles, containers or a wide variety of workpieces, chips or granules, foams; predominantly two-dimensionally extended bodies such as films, foils, lacquers, impregnations and coatings or predominantly one-dimensionally formed bodies such as threads, fibers, flakes, bristles, wires. On the other hand, the aforementioned materials can also be present in unshaped states in the most varied of homogeneous and inhomogeneous distribution forms and states of aggregation. B. as powder, solutions, normal and reverse emulsions (creams), dispersions, latices, sols, gels, putties, waxes, adhesives and fillers, etc.
Fiber materials can be in a wide variety of non-textile processing forms, e.g. B. as continuous filaments, nonwovens. Felts, wadding, flocking structures or as paper, cardboard, etc.
The new stabilizers can also be used, for example, as follows: a) in cosmetic preparations, such as perfumes, colored and uncolored soaps and bath additives, skin and face creams, powders, repellants and, in particular, sun protection oils and creams: b) in mixtures with so-called carriers , Anti-oxidants, other light protection agents, heat stabilizers or chemical bleaching agents; c) in a mixture with crosslinkers; d) in combination with detergents, the detergents and stabilizers also being able to be added separately to the washing baths to be used; e) in gelatin classes for photographic purposes;
f) in combination with polymeric carrier materials (polymerization, polycondensation or poly addition products), in which the stabilizers ge are optionally embedded in dissolved or dispersed form in addition to other substances, eg. B. with coating or binding agents (solutions, dispersions, emulsions) for nonwovens, paper, leaders; g) as additives to a wide variety of industrial Pro products to reduce their aging rate, z. B. as an additive to glues, adhesives,
Paints, etc.
The new stabilizing agents to be used according to the invention are preferably added to or incorporated into the materials before or during their deformation. For example, they can be used in the production of films, foils, tapes or moldings of the molding compound or injection molding compound. igen or dissolve, disperse or otherwise finely distribute in the spinning mass before spinning. The protective agents can also be added to the starting substances, reaction mixtures or intermediate products for the production of fully or semi-synthetic organic materials before or during the chemical reaction, e.g.
B. in poly condensations (including precondensates), in polymerizations (including prepolymers) or in polyadditions.
An important application variant for the stabilizers to be used according to the invention is that these substances are incorporated into a protective layer which protects the material located behind them. This can be done in such a way that the ultraviolet absorbers are applied to the surface layer (a film, a multi-dimensional molded body). This can be achieved, for example, by a type of dyeing process or the active substance can be embedded in a polymer (polycondensate, polyadduct) film according to surface coating methods known per se for polymeric substances, or the active substance can be added in dissolved form by means of a suitable solvent Diffuse or swell in the surface layer.
Another important variant consists in that the ultraviolet absorber is embedded in a self-supporting, essentially two-dimensional carrier material, e.g. B. a film or a vessel wall in order to keep ultraviolet radiation from the substance behind it (examples: shop windows, films, transparent packaging, bottles).
From the above, it goes without saying that, in addition to protecting the substrate or the carrier substance containing the ultraviolet absorber, the protection of other substances accompanying the substrate is also achieved at the same time, for example dyes, antioxidants, disinfectant additives, antistatic agents and other finishes, plasticizers and fillers.
Depending on the type of substance to be protected or stabilized, its sensitivity or the application-related form of protection and stabilization, the required amount of stabilizer can vary within wide limits, for example between about 0.01 and 10 percent by weight, based on the amount of substrate to be protected . For most practical purposes, however, amounts of about 0.05 to 2 / o are sufficient.
It is often advisable to use the above-mentioned light stabilizers in combination with sterically hindered phenols, esters of thiodipropionic acid or organic phosphorus compounds.
The parts and percentages mentioned in the following production instructions and examples always represent parts by weight and percentages by weight, unless stated otherwise.
