Beispiel 6
Use of substituted 2- (2'-hydroxyphenyl) benzotriazole compounds as light stabilizers
The present invention relates to the use of substituted 2- (2'-hydroxyphenyl) benzotriazole compounds of the structure given below as light stabilizers for light-sensitive organic materials against the harmful effects of UV radiation from light, eg. B. as a component of light filters by the protection by covering with film-like structures or protective layers which contain these triazole compounds, or to stabilize light-sensitive material by the triazole compounds being incorporated homogeneously or superficially.
It has been found that 2- (2'-hydroxyphenyl) benzotriazole compounds of the general formula I
EMI1.1
are particularly effective light stabilizers.
In this formula: one of X1 and X represents the group
EMI1.2
where R1 and R2 are each independently hydrogen or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical and R also an acyl radical, and R1 and R2 can also be connected to one another, and the other X and Y independently of one another are each hydrogen, a hydrocarbon group, a Alkoxy group or halogen and the nucleus A in positions 4, 5 and 6 can be substituted by alkyl, allioxy, carboxyl, carboxylic acid ester, carboxamide, sulfonic acid amide, alkylsulfonyl groups or halogens.
The benzene ring A can thus in positions 4, 5 or 6, for example, lower alkyl groups such as methyl, ethyl, isobutyl groups, alkoxy groups such as methoxy or butoxy groups, halogens such as chlorine or bromine, carboxyl groups, carboxylic acid ester groups, namely carboxylic acid alkyl ester groups , such as carbomethoxy, carboethoxy, carbopropoxy or carbobutoxy groups, optionally aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic substituted carboxamide or sulfonic acid amide groups on the nitrogen, such as carboxamide or sulfonic acid amide, -methylamide, -ethylamidehexyl, -butylamide -, benzylamide, dimethylamide, diethylamide, -N-methyl-N-cyclohexylamide, -r-methoxypropylamide, piperidide or morpholide groups, as well as alkylsulfonyl groups,
such as methylsulfonyl or ethylsulfonyl groups.
The benzene ring B in the 3 ', 4' and 5 'positions can also be replaced by hydrocarbon groups such as methyl, ethyl, t-butyl, benzyl, cyclohexyl or phenyl groups, alkoxy groups such as methoxy, ethoxy, propoxy -, isopropoxy or n-butoxy groups, or halogens such as chlorine or bromine.
The carboxylic acid residue COR is derived from an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid. Both saturated and unsaturated carboxylic acids are suitable as residues of aliphatic carboxylic acids, for example the residues of formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, pentanecarboxylic acid, heptanecarboxylic acid, nonanecarboxylic acid, undecanecarboxylic acid, tridecanecarboxylic acid, pentadecanecarboxylic acids, such as the fatty acid halo or heptadecarboxylic acid. B. chloro- or bromoacetic acid, a- or β-chloro- or cc- or β-bromopropionic acid, the residues of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or allyloxyacetic acid.
If -CORa is the radical of a cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid, it is, for example, the radicals of cyclohexyl carboxylic acid, phenylacetic acid, phenoxyacetic acid, hydrocinnamic acid, cinnamic acid, α-phenylacrylic acid, benzoic acid, methylbenzoic acids or chlorobenzoic acids.
R1 denotes hydrogen or an aliphatic radical, in particular a lower alkyl group, e.g. B. the methyl or sithyl group, a cycloaliphatic radical, e.g. B. the cyclohexyl group, an araliphatic radical, e.g. B. the benzyl group, or an aromatic radical such as the phenyl group.
The radicals R1 and R2 can also be connected to one another and then together with the nitrogen and the carbonyl group form a lactam ring, for example the caprolactam or the succinimide ring.
However, R1 is preferably hydrogen.
Benztriazole compounds which absorb particularly long wavelengths are obtained when acidifying substituents are in ring A and basic substituents are in the 3 'and / or 5' position. Benztriazole compounds with a particularly high molar extinction in the range from 330-350 m are obtained if basic substituents are present in the 5- and / or 4'-position. The molar absorption in the range of 300 ms is promoted by alkyl substituents which may be further substituted in the 3¯ position.
Examples of basic substituents are alkoxy groups, such as the methoxy, iso-propyloxy, cyclohexyloxy and benzyloxy groups; Examples of acidifying substituents are the alkylsulfonyl groups, such as the methyl and ethylsulfonyl groups, the sulfonic acid amide groups, such as the sulfonic acid methyl, butyl and cyclohexyl amide groups and the carboxyl group and their esters.
Particularly suitable compounds that can be used according to the invention include, for example: 2- (2'-Hydroxy-3'-butyroylamidomethyl-5'-methyl-phenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'- α, α-dimethylpropionylamidomethyl-
5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-heptadecylcarbamidomethyl-5 'methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3' -? -Ethylpentanecarbamidomethyl-5'-tert.- Butylphenyl) benzotriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 '-?
; -ethyl-pentanecarbamidomethyl-5'-benzphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-a-ethyl-pentanecarbamidomethyl-5'-chlorophenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'- ethylpentanecarbamidomethyl-5 'cyclohexylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-cyclohexylcarbamidomethyl-5' methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-acryloylamidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl)
5-chlorobenztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-acryloylamidomethyl-5'-methyl-phenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-butoxy-acetamidomethyl-5 'methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2 - (2'-Hydroxy-3'-methoxyacetamidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-Hydroxy-3'-N-methyl-N-cyclohexylamino acetamidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole,
2- (2'-Hydroxy-3'-N, N-dibutylamino-acetamidomethyl
5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-octylmercapto-acetamidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-ss-carbotutoxy-ethylmercapto-acetamidomethyl-5 '-methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-methacryloylamidomethyl-5' methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-ss-octylmercapto-a-methylpropionyl-amidomethyl-5 ' -methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-ss-hydroxyethylmercapto-propionyl amidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-ss-carbocyclohexyloxyethylmercapto propionylamidomethyl-5 ' -tert-butylphenyl) benztriazole, 2- [2'-hydroxy-3 '- (2 "-oxohexamethyleneimidomethyl)
5'-methylphenyl] benzotriazole,
2- (2'-Hydroxy-5'-methacryloylamidomethylphenyl) -5 methoxy-6-methylbenzotriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-N-methylacetamidomethyl-5 'methylphenyl) -benzotriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy -3'-N-benzylbenzamidomethyl-5 'methylphenyl) -benztriazole.
The substituted 2- (2'-hydroxyphenyl) benzotriazole compounds used according to the invention can be prepared by methods known per se, for example by reacting a corresponding 2- (2'-hydroxyphenyl) benzotriazole compound which can be substituted in the 3'- or 5'-position with the N methylol compound of a carboxamide.
The 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'- or-5'-carbacylamidomethylphenyl) benzotriazole compounds are colorless to slightly yellowish in color, depending on the substitution, and have a good absorption effect for UV light. Compared to previously known compounds of a similar constitution, they have improved application properties; z. B. they show an improved sublimation fastness with a comparable shade and with a comparable absorption. The more UV light they absorb, the more valuable they are. They are incorporated into the light-sensitive supports in small amounts of 0.001-5%, especially in amounts of 0.01-2% of the support material.
As carrier materials for 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'- or -5'-carbacylamidomethylphenyl) -benztriazole compounds, polymers are primarily suitable, especially fully synthetic polymers, e.g. Addition polymers, especially polymers of compounds with ethylene double bonds, such as Polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polymers of styrene and of dienes, and their copolymers, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyacrylic compounds, in particular polymethyl methacrylate or polyacrylonitrile, or condensation polymers, such as polyesters, e.g. B. polyethylene glycol terephthalates, or polyamides, e.g. B.
Polycaprolactam, or mixed polymers that result from a combination of polyaddition and polycondensation, such as B. polyester resins; also natural polymers or their synthetic modifications, such as. B. cellulose, cellulose esters and ethers and proteins. In addition, fats, lead and waxes can also be used as carrier materials. The molecular weight of the abovementioned polymers plays a subordinate role as long as it lies within the limit values necessary for the characteristic mechanical properties of the polymers in question.
Depending on the polymer, it can be between 1,000 and several million.
The incorporation of the 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'- or -5'carbacylamidomethylphenyl) -benztriazole compounds into these polymers is done, for example - depending on the type of polymer - by incorporating at least one 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'- or -5'-carbacylamidomethylphenyl) benzotriazole compound and optionally other additives, such as. B. plasticizers and antioxidants, heat stabilizers and pigments, in the melt or plasticized form by the methods customary in the art before or during shaping, or by dissolving in the corresponding monomers before the polymerization, or by dissolving the polymer and the additives in solvents and subsequent evaporation of the latter. The 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'- or -5'-carbacylamidomethylphenyl) -benztriazole compounds can also be obtained from baths, e.g.
B. from aqueous dispersions, be drawn onto non-textile films or threads.
The light-sensitive materials can also be protected from the harmful effects of light by covering them with a protective layer containing at least one compound of the formula I according to the definition, e.g. B. a varnish, or that they are covered with such light stabilizers containing - appropriately film-like - structures. In both of these cases, the amount of light stabilizers added is advantageously 10-30% (based on the protective layer material) for protective layers of less than 0.01 mm thickness and 1-10A for protective layers of 0.01-0.1 mm thickness. The more colorless they are, the more valuable the benzotriazole derivatives according to the invention, since otherwise they give the end products a yellow color.
In non-polar polymers, those benzotriazole compounds are particularly suitable which, in addition to the hydroxyl group according to the definition, contain as few groups as possible with mobile hydrogen atoms, such as. B. secondary carboxylic or sulfonic acid amide groups contain. In this case, low-melting products are generally preferred because of their solubility.
In general, it is advisable to assess the possible use of a specific product by means of solubility tests. If, for example, the product is sparingly soluble in the solvents that are known for the polymer to be protected, even when hot, an unfavorable compatibility with this polymer is to be expected.
For certain types of use, especially when hot pulp is powdered, benzotriazole compounds which melt above the softening temperature of the polymers in question and are nevertheless sufficiently soluble in the molten polymer are particularly valuable.
The following examples illustrate the invention. Unless otherwise noted, the parts denote parts by weight. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Parts by weight have the same relationship to parts by volume as kilograms are to liters.
example 1
100 parts of polyethylene powder (DFD 4400 from Union Carbide International Chemical Company, 30 East 42nd Street, New York, NY USA) are mixed with 0.25 parts of 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 -heptadecylcarb amidomethyl-5 ' -methylphenyl) -benztriazole mixed and processed the mixture by means of an extruder to a blown film about 0.06 mm thick. Sections of this film that absorbs light are exposed in the fadeometer for 250 hours. The light protection agent content of the film was determined spectrophotometrically before and after exposure. The loss was 10%. If other light stabilizers are used, the losses given in the table that arise during exposure were determined.

As can be seen from the table, the compounds of the present invention have a significantly lower loss on exposure than previously known UV absorbers.
This difference is presumably due to the improvement in the fastness to sublimation of the light stabilizers according to the invention compared with the comparison substances. If the film, containing compound 1 of the table, was cemented between 2 quartz plates and exposed in the same way, a loss of only 10% also occurred under these conditions.
Example 2
Cellulose acetate films were produced by using a solution consisting of 150 parts of acetyl cellulose (21/2 acetate from Lonza AG., Weil, Germany),
20 parts of dibutyl phthalate, 825 parts of acetone and 0.5 part of 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-methoxyacetamidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl) benzotriazole was drawn onto glass. Sections of these films were exposed for 1000 hours in the fadeometer and their light absorption measured at 365 nyl before and after exposure. The transmission before exposure was 10 and after exposure was 12%. The loss of US absorber content caused by exposure is only 9%. The film exposed in this way does not show the embrittlement phenomena which are found in films of the same composition but without light stabilizers.
In an analogous manner, lightfast UV-absorbing films can be produced from other cellulose esters soluble in acetone; When using the following substance as a light stabilizer, results similar to those described above are obtained: 2- (2'-Hydroxy-3'-nonanecarbamidomethyl-5'-methyl-phenyl) -benztriazole-5-carboxylic acid butyl ester, 2- (2'-hydroxy -3 '-N, N-diethylaminoacetamidomethyl-
5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazol-5-sulfonic acid diethylamide, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-monancarbamidomethyl-5'-methyl-phenyl) -5 -ethylsulfonyl-benzotriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 - acryloylamidomethyl-5-methylphenyl) -
5-chloro-benzotriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-butyrylamidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl) benztriazole-5-sulfonic acid phenyl ester,
2- (2'-Hydroxy-3 '-butoxyacetamidomethyl-5'-methyl-phenyl) -benztriazol-5-sulfonic acid ep-cresyl ester, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3' -N, N-diethylamino-acetamidomethyl-
5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole-5-carboxylic acid diethylamide, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-cyclohexylcarbamidomethyl-5'-methyl phenyl) -benztriazole-5-carboxylic acid morpholine amide, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 '- phenylacetamidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl) -5-carbethoxy-benzotriazole.
Example 3
100 parts of a commercially available liquid polyester resin (IC-312 from Interchem. Corp. NY) were added after admixing 0.2 parts of the compound 2- [2'-hydroxy-3 '- (2 "-oxohexamethyleneimidomethyl) -5'- methylphenyl] -5-chloro-benzotriazole (m.p.
1160) and 1 part of benzoyl peroxide hardened between two gas plates as a mold at 800. The resulting 2 mm thick polyester resin sheets absorb practically all UV light with a wavelength below 360 m and are largely stabilized against yellowing; compared to an otherwise identical plate, but without light stabilizer, only 20½ of the transmission loss occurring after 500 hours of fadeometer exposure at 420 m, a is found.
Similar results are obtained when using 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 '-butoxyacetamidomethyl-5'-benzyl-phenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3' -N, N-dibutylaminoacetamidomethyl
5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 '-N-butyl-butyrylamidomethyl-5' ethylphenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 '-N-phenyl-acetamidomethyl-5 '- methylphenyl) -5-bromo-benzotriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-N-benzyl-ss-butylmercapto-propionyl-amidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl-5-chlorobenzotriazole, or 2- (2'- Hydroxy-3'-N-cyclohexyl-acetamidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole.
Example 4
100 parts of granulated nylon 66 (produced by the condensation of hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid in a molar ratio of 1. 1 at about 265 in the absence of oxygen) and 0.5 part of 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 '? -Ethylpentanecarbamidomethyl-5'-tert .-Butylphenyl) - benzotriazole are dry mixed and extruded into a continuous film. The film absorbs the ultraviolet light and is suitable as a UV absorbing packaging material. If instead of nylon 66, another polyamide, e.g. B. nylon 6 or 11 or a mixed condensate, z. 6/10 is used, a similar result is obtained.
Example 5
A mixture consisting of 65 parts of polyvinyl chloride, prepared by block polymerization of polyvinyl chloride with 0.3% benzoyl peroxide (48 hours at 45-520), 32 parts of dioctyl phthalate, 2 parts of barium cadmium laurate and 1 part of the compound 2- (2'-Hydroxy -3'-butoxt-acetamidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole is pulled out to a fur on the two-roll mill at 150. The film absorbs the light and is at the same time protected against light damage. After 750 hours of exposure to the fadeometer, it was still completely unchanged, while a film of an analogous composition, but without UV absorber, had brown spots after just 500 hours.
In an analogous manner, other lightfast UV-absorbing films can be produced, since when using the following substances as light stabilizers similar results are obtained if one proceeds as described above and instead of 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 'butoxy-acetamidomethyl-5' - methylphenyl) - benzotriazole 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-butoxyacetamidomethyl-5'-benzyl-phenyl) -benztriazole, 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-butoxyacetamidomethyl-5 'butoxyphenyl) -benztriazole, or 2- (2'-Hydroxy-3'-butoxyacetamidomethyl-5 'cyclopentylphenyl) -benztriazole, or 2- (2'-Hydroxy-3' -butoxyacetamidomethyl-5 '- cyclohexylphenyl) -benztriazole, or 2- ( 2'-Hydroxy-3'-butoxyacetamidomethyl-5 'cyclohexylphenyl) benzotriazole is used.
Example 6
100 parts of methyl methacrylate, 0.1 part of the compound 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 '-octylmercapto-acetamidomethyl-5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole and 0.2 part of lauroyl peroxide as a polymerization accelerator are mixed and at 700 in a glass mold to one Plate of
4 mm thick polymerized. The plate was exposed in the fadeometer for 1000 hours and the transmission measured at 360 m u; this is less than 1% and does not differ from the initial value. The plate showed neither yellowing nor surface cracks.
This material can therefore be used as a light-stable UV filter.
In an analogous manner, lightfast UV-absorbing plates can be produced by using 2- (2'-hydroxy-3 '-benzylmercapto-acetamidomethyl- instead of 2- (2'-hydroxy-3' -octylmercapto-acetamidomethyl-5 'methylphenyl) -benztriazole 5'-methylphenyl) -benztriazole, or 2- (2'-hydroxy-3'-phenylmercapto-acetamidomethyl-5 ¯ methylphenyl) -benztriazole is used.
